    Hey all,

Sorry for cluttering the Jam with this, but I need some info on other
    mailing lists,
specifically lists with interesting stuff for keyboard players. I'm kinda
    looking for
some specific bass sounds and I want some help with these. Private email will do
nicely, thank you. Damon? Korg? Matt?

BTW, I was wondering, is ALL dance music in 4/4 or 3/4? and I dont just mean
this "pop" dance stuff, I'm talking about all forms of it (ballet, etc). I bet theres
some weird dance that can be done in 9/8 time. Anyone know? I think it would
    be interesting to find out.

And I must absolutely chime in with a massive AMEN to the below.....the name of the disc is Friday Night in San Francisco, and totally smokes.....I was lucky enough to catch these guys play together on the 1996 tour, and must say it remains the most impressive show I've ever witnessed..... >Somebody mentioned Al DiMeola on here I forget who, but if you like > him check out Paco DeLucia John McLaughlin and Al DiMeola live in > San Francisco very very good cd, you will be amazed at their > playing.

Well maybe you didn't pay close attention to guitar. I find it VERY DT influenced. Ofcourse there's tons of others influences too, yeah, I agree Kings'X is apparent one. It doesn't have to be DT ripoff to sound DT influenced. Shaun Michaud also states Petrucci as one of his main influences.. 'nuff said.

I wonder if those are their stage costumes... I wonder if they have opened for NIN or Rammstein... I wonder why I'm still talking about (chuckle) Rockbitch...

Ok, as promised, the next cd I am going to talk about (stop announcing! joke to English teachers) is Rage's new one, XIII.

Background: I had purchased one Rage release quite a few years ago, "Execution Guaranteed," and it sucked Dr. Mosh's left nut. Sooo, I kept hearing good things about their newer material, leaving me in a quandary.

Flash-forward: There I was, drinking Hard Core apple cider, laughing at morons, and fending off big-assed band chicks, when I came upon the Century Media table. In the immortal words of a urban-oriented co-worker, "They had MAD cds!" Low prices, too. So, for ten bucks I figured I could not go wrong.

Style: German Power Metal with an Orchestral twist.

Impressions: Hey, this is actually kind of catchy! At first it didn't hit me, but around song 10 I realized what it was - the singer sounds kinda like James Hetfield if James Hetfield were from Continental Europe. Yeah. This sorta sounds like what i imagine Metallica would have sounded like following Justice had they been a European band. This is not a bad thing. The music has elements that can hook you, and the production and musicianship is fine. This is not speed metal, and it sure is not of the virtuoso-style other prog-metallers go for, but it keeps the interest. Obligatory metal cover "Paint it Black" done in their own style. Not bad.

Conclusions: This was much better than I hoped. The use of a full orchestra added extra layers to the music and strong writing helps things move along. It doesn't bog down. Recommended to fans of the Power Metal genre and to those who liked Metallica, but didn't quite care for the direction taken following Justice.

NW: Alexander Nevsky (the music rules)

Next cd review: Therion - Vovin
