Life is going to get better. They are all going to rock. I have the 17" AAX Stage Crash, as well as the 10" AAX splash that you ordered, plus a 16" AAX China and a 16" AXX Studio Crash. I really like the AAX stuff (obviously). They give off such a bright, yet controlled explosion of sound w/o any of that annoying overtone. Never cared much for the HH stuff (for once my wallet and my ears are in total agreement). Too dark for my taste. Enjoy. Sabian Forever!

I've dealt with Esprit Int'l several times over the past couple years. OK, their prices are a little on the high side, and they do charge for "shipping & handling". On the other hand, they aren't misleading about condition, availability etc (but it never hurts to ask), respond to email, etc. I've gotten (and missed) some stuff from them I've never seen again. Caveat emptor as usual, but they're not scammers.
Now if I just had a cool sig file..

I don't think he meant that; I think he meant that Yes had already changed once, and it had nothing to do with Trevor Rabin. I agree with that point of view, but I disagree with JonP in the way that such change was within the Yes sound or that there's nothing wrong w/ the change. Now, this is remarkably important to notice, 'cause the change that was felt after the inclusion of TR was a major one in terms of what progressive music is about ('cause there was no more!).

A change per se is not bad, as Going for the One demonstrated, but the change in 90125 induces me to vomit! I had said "(TR) (very skillful, by the way - don't get me wrong)..." and I say this 'cause Talk - the song - is such a kick ass composition, that for the moment I had to shut up, but his abilities don't imply continuity in the development of the sound.
Take Yes' personnel changes before that one: Steve Howe for Gordon Banks Rick Wakeman for Tony Kaye Alan White for Bill Bruford Patrick Moraz for Rick and vice-versa Geoffrey Downes for Rick Trevor Horn for Jon All these changes added with subtlety to the Yes repertoire and the changes were welcome. You just have to agree that none of these changes represented a threat to the overall sound and integrity, because within the changes, Yes still had the same direction. Up 'till then, the music was written mostly by Jon, Steve and Chris, with great additions from Rick, Alan or Bill, and at some stage, exceptional contributions from Geoffrey Downes and Trevor Horn in Drama.
Trevor Rabin for Steve Howe????? Now this one is clearly the change that yes, RUINED the band's music. Without Steve Howe as half the writing force, the slot was sadly filled by someone with a different point of view. He is good technically and all, plays whatever you want and all, but just doesn't write or play in the lines of Yes music.

Look at the band now that he's gone (for good, I hope): Chris Squire is back playing like a beast again! Everybody's got some room to explore, and there's enough space for everybody to have an input in the final outcome! In time, when speaking of Yes in the future (and even now, damn it!), Close to the Edge, Fragile, Going for the One and Relayer will first come to mind as the exponents of Yes music. 90125, Big Generator and Talk don't contribute to their legacy (they'll be merely regarded as ‘the commercial recordings'), and if it weren't for the big sales of Owner of a Lonely Heart, they would go unnoticed. Lastly, if you like Yes' more commercial stuff, that's one thing, but to say that the Rabin-era Yes is good, that's something very different!

I spent some money this weekend during my trip to Birmingham (Alabama, not England) on CDs. Some of it was wasted, some wasn't. Here are a few details:
Yes - Yesshows This 2 disc set only cost me $18. It was well worth it. This is a live set with only seven tracks, but Ritual (Nous Sommes Du Soleil), Wonderous Stories, and Gates Of Delirium are excellent. Anderson, Wakeman, Squire, White, Howe, and Moraz are the musicians, and the tracks were recorded at four shows between 1976 and 1978. It's not essential, but if you don't have any Yes boots from this era, I'd recommend these discs.
A Saucerful of Pink - Pink Floyd Tribute This 2 CD set cost me only $16, but I want my money back. It's mostly techno (I haven't listened to all of it yet, but everything I've heard is techno). The only way I can envision this being worth my money is if it makes my girlfriend grind better :)
Frank Zappa - Any Way The Wind Blows/Frank In Paris This is a 2 CD set from the "Beat The Boots" series that Rhino issued back in 1991. Judging from the tracklist and the members of the band, I'd say it was recorded during the 1982 tour, but Steve Vai isn't playing stunt guitar, so who knows? The performances are good throughout, but there are no ultimately memorable moments for me. Since I don't have many FZ boots (yet!) this was a good pick.
Spacewalk - A Tribute To Ace Frehley Vinnie might like this. It's a little too "straight-forward metal" for me. Dimebag Darrell (Fractured Mirror), Scott Ian+Charlie Benante (Rip It Out), and Marty Friedman (Deuce) are my highlights.
I think that the best purchases this weekend will turn out to be the sheet music, though. I found Erik Satie's "Gymnopedies, Gnossiennes, and Other Works for Piano" and Edvard Grieg's "Complete Lyric Pieces for Piano," each for $8.
Should I try to use 8 fingers, or all 10, Madsman? ;)
