To give another point of view, I have to say that I absolutely love
the song "Mind Drive" off of KTA 2. I'd agree that the rest of the
new stuff of KTA 2 isn't as good as the two new songs on KTA 1, but I
think that "Mind Drive" is the best thing Yes has done since "Awaken"
and maybe before that. It has the cool, classic Yes' "long-song"
structure combined with some wonderful melodies -- I love it. I also
really enjoy the two new songs on KTA 1 but the melodies in "Mind
Drive" put it to the top for me.
I think that both KTA albums are worth getting for Yes fans but if
you're just curious to hear what Yes is like I'd recommend "Classic Yes"
which is a representative greatest-hits type of collection.

I have to speak up here. I have KTA and KTA 2. I have to ask Dave, the fan
of close to the Edge, what is wrong with a song like Mind Drive off KTA 2.
That song made me piss myself. I think that is the best post 90125 song
ever written, and I like Trevor Raben era yes. The rest of the songs on
KTA 2 are not as good as Mind Drive, but I think they are much better than
Be the One from the original KTA. I think That that is could've been
    better but is still good.

    Ahoy,

The other day, while passing a bored moment watching speed skating, I heard a familiar tune in the background on the tv. ESPN or whoever was showing a compilation of great moments from each finalist in the speed skating competition with some visual editing effects and music background. At the start of the clip, they were playing Hells Kitchen! I got excited thinking they might play it for the duration of the clip, but of course it quickly went into a techno track. When the little thingy was wrapping up, they closed the last couple of seconds with New Millenium!

Well, let's get the ball rolling...

Q: Are you the Pat who...

A: No. In fact, there are several Pats on the jam, and last I checked, I am not the one that complained (is complaining? I heard a nasty rumor that things actually got resolved) about Al B. I'm the one that sells the T-Shirts, makes all the smart ass remarks and just got appointed to the FAQ. :)

Anyway, I talked to Merlo and thanked him personally for the choice. I wasn't quite expecting to be chosen with the other people in the running, but I will do the best I can to keep the FAQ interesting and up to date. In other words, the opposite of the Official Dream Theater Web Site.

Merlo is forwarding all his backlogged mail of things to update, and I have gotten a few emails about it as well. I'll try to get something up this weekend (uh huh huh), but it really depends on the amount of stuff there is to change.

Also, someone in the last jam posted some suggestions for the FAQ. That stuff is good, but please do me a favor and forward the post to me as well as to the jam. Mail me at gabbo@dreamt.org and it should get here. Sometimes I have a tendancy to miss things that are posted.

Anyway, if you have any suggestions, comments, insult, bribes, nude photos (just kidding, hon) or anything else for me, send it my way.

    Good sections to include, methinks...

    - bands that have opened for DT, bands DT's opened for, bands they've shared gigs with, etc. - songs DT's covered (there's already a section on this, but given all the covers as of late, it could serve to be overhauled) - a section telling every person reading the FAQ to mail me $1

Just tossing some ideas around. Heed them or be square.

    Hello-

Gotta say I'm a Zildjian man all the way. I personally like A Customs the best for crashes and chinas, but I like z custom hi-hats and k custom ridesat 20"+. I recieved my Age Of Wonders last week and I must say it is very good, another excellent project by the Bahrman. Pearts solo is much better than the one on ATWAS IMHO. Now if I could only get my E2E (I know your working at it Mike:) Cant wait for WTTW to come out, also hope too see the CD's painted soon. Kinda funny how DT makes a lot of reference to eyes/sight and how the references relate to each other and also between songs as a whole.

    > Also received SB's new one, Kindness of Strangers. This is >excellent stuff, every bit as good as the two previous ones. Anybody >who doesn't have something by them is really missing out. The >musicianship is as good as DT but these guys are on the opposite end >of the prog scale. I still think Neal Morse should be producing DT >albums. All of SB's stuff is produced near perfectly without being >over-produced or lacking anything. The bass is always clear and up >front without drowning out the subtelties these guys load their >albums with. This is a STRONG BUY ;>.

funny that you should mention the production of SB as being one of the strong selling points for the band..... because if there is anything that I would caution about with Spock's Beard it would have to be the production... the drums especially. The snare has no depth.. the cymbals sound like little splishes (ala Images and Words) and for some reason i can't explain the bass drum bothers me...

the reason why i mention this, and not just to complain... is that I was seriously wondering whether all the SB cds have that same "sound" or if they've tweaked it a little.. gotten a little more "lively" sound?

Bruce: It seems to me that the 2nd album, Beware of Darkness, does have a little more depth to it. This was the one album that I was thinking of when I posted earlier. I haven't had KOS too long so I havent' listened to it 'closely' yet. By that I mean on my 'big' stereo which picks out all the subtleties the other one that I usually listen to doesn't.

In my opinion, the production/mastering of The Light, Beware of Darkness, sound like they were done on a tight budget, because honestly, they aren't very good at all, the dynamic range of both those discs are very lacking. They both lack a punch, but Beware is a little better. But needless to say, the music is incredible.
