You guys (and girls) are right; it seems I overreacted. However an
extortion threat of this type, even one that seems far-fetched, carries
with it a certain amount of intimidation. Despite my thorough
convictions to take this guy down even if it costs me everything in the
process, I admit I was sweating when I read the initial letter. I was
thinking, "What now??!? just when everything was going so WELL!!!"
Regardless of the source, extortion and blackmail are not things to be
    taken lightly.

I examined the guy's home today, and though nobody was home, there WERE
six or so new-looking vehicles parked haphazardly about his property.
This leads me to believe these people have done this before (to other
companies perhaps... so Ryan and John of Scarred and Xanadu records, be
careful!!), and I may just have to let the authorities deal with it. He
lives on the butt edge of town... off a DIRT ROAD no less, in the
trailer-trash part of east Mesa just abutting Apache Junction.
Furthermore, the extremely high value of the extortion demand has moved
this from a local matter to a federal matter, so I'm just going to
cooperate and let the professionals do it the way they're trained to do
it. I was unaware of that last development until discussing the matter
today with local law enforcement. Kinda puts it in a whole new light!!

Anyway, I changed my mailing address just in case. If everyone would be
so kind as to NOT give my old address to anyone, I would appreciate it
ever so much. This dork may have it already, true, but my experience
with net users is that they rarely write anything down because they know
they can "always look it up on the net later", and if that's the case
here, I've rather luckily protected myself. Thanks to all of you who
    e-mailed support, you're the greatest!!!

And to the dude who made fun of me for mentioning Joey, the only reason
I brought it up was because this punk might be underage. If he was 18 or
older, I was gonna deal with him myself. But it's a moot point now
because it looks like I won't *need* to deal with him; John Q. Law is
gonna do that FOR me. :)

As a final precaution, all my CD masters have been duplicated and
spread about the many members of Crystalline Records, who will do
Prism's work if I should become unable to through any circumstance. If
there's one thing I believe in life, it's that one's own personal power
is measured by how loyal one is to one's friends, that they might lend
their assistance should peril strike one down.

I actually kinda like the new sound. Being an Extreme fan, I htink the new song melds the two styles (Hagar-era VH snd Extreme) pretty well. As far as the production goes (re the backing vocals being "too low") -- I think that is part of the style, with the backing vocals being more "backup" than the typical VH "Four-part Rock Barbershop" arrangement. FII has a similar backing vocal arrangmeent.. From the XMAS CD, you can hear a lot of backup vocal overlays, but they are mixed low in the final, to add more of a feeling of backup voices while still having the main melody be predominant.

I do think, though, that Gary does sound a little too much like Sammy on some of the verse.

Anyone: Is the album out yet?

]From SchnippX >Hey bernardo,'s true? >Zakk's with Ozzie live again.

Er... Yup. The man himself, with his extra-long hair, his Gibson Les Pauls with concentric circles, jumping all around and getting everywhere! At one stage in the concert, I think during No More Tears, he even jumped down to the arena and kept on playing. He went up the stands and stayed there for a while before coming back up to the stage. In the meantime, Ozzy took the time to give those in the front rows a well deserved bath (he had buckets full of water!). For the record, the rest of the band was: Mike Ines-bass guitar Randy Castillo-drums and there was a keyboard player and he was named and all, but I don't remember his name.

    >Maybe I should get a ticket for Rock am Ring then, mmmmmmmhhhh. Yeah man. RUN!

Moving on to King's X, I found a CD in a shop named Dogman by these guys. Can a charitable soul tell me what this album is like? Can you name a band that sounds like this? The only thing I've ever heard from K's X is the chorus part from LitS sung by one of these guys and which BTW, I don't like very much. I've text-searched all my Ytse digests trying to find information on this CD, and that title is not mentioned anywhere. Thanx! And just yesterday, I bought Shadow Gallery's Carved in Stone for just 12 AU$ (about 8 US$)! Still can't believe it!

I'd like to thank all of you (specially Luke - slslb@winshop.com.au and Dr. Mosh) for putting out all this information about new bands. Thanks to that, I've been able to get in touch with new music that I didn't even know that existed. Cheers! BP No Signature!

Hmmm, I have this CD. It doesn't really sound like anything else that I can think of, but in this case originality isn't necessarily good. In my opinion it's a pretty boring CD. Very slow for the most part, lots of thumpy bass that really gets on my nerves after a couple songs (which mostly sound the same to me).

I'd reported that Tori's new album is called "Confessionings of a Choir Girl." It's wrong. It was according to MTV. They lie. =)

The Atlantic Records site says that the album is called "from the choir girl hotel" and it'll be out May 5, like Richie said.

    Wow.

Is this the image you want to portray to the jammers? Wow. Here are a few things you might want to consider: 1). You attack him, and YOU go to jail. 2). He might kick the shit out of you, and YOU go to jail. 3). This is the shit you deal with in your situation. Let's not even consider that this dude might have a gun. Bottom line is that this kind of retaliation is beyond moronic. Get a grip on your anger, before someone widows your wife. Furthermore, to say "I'm not condoning illegal retribution..." is quite clearly bullshit. That's exactly what you're hoping for. If anyone does start up a posse to hunt down this little lone gunman, I'm sending him a box of bullets now. You'll all get what you deserve. Now how about some music news?

Do they have some generally accepted "good" albums or should I have a go at a greatest hits package? Any suggestions helpful. Thanks.

Yeah, you should get the pic with the starter kit. When I first joined last winter, I received a note with my starter kit stating that they were short on pics and that I would receive one later. My pic came with my Xmas CD (as well as the rest of my membership packet) and it was signed by Derek. Now I have something else to take to the next show and get the rest of the band to sign:)

Oh yeah; and to all you drummers out their who are thinking about buying a drum rack instead of fighting with individual drum and cymbal stands: DO IT! Once you get past the initial setup which can take some time depending on the size of your kit, setup and takedown is a breeze! Definatly worth looking into.

hey jammers, I have a few questions here,

I was in a record store yesterday and they had an LP by jethro tull, called "forgotten times" or something (very appropriate). Could anyone give some information about this album?? Thanks.

Further, I saw an interview with Mike Portnoy in a german magazine Rock Hard. Unfortunately my german isn't very good, but from what I could understand this was a pretty cool interview. I mean, not with the usual questions about a new album and it's producer and all that stuff that we know about already. Maybe any german jammer feels like posting this?

Did anyone see the Hollow years video yet? I just emailed tmf, which is a dutch version of mtv. They _might_ play this on Wet&wild, a metal-show on monday-night. Usually, they play two hours of boring death/thrash metal videos and the editor claimed Hollow years is a little soft. Actually, this channel sucks even more than mtv, but I just wanna see the video at least once.

I went on a bit of a binge over the past few days. Maybe I should have paid some bills. Oh well. :)

Journey - Greatest Hits: what a great CD. Steve Perry's voice is just phenomenal.

Living Color - Greatest Hits: This CD rocks. It has everything on here except "Leave It Alone", but the CD still kicks major ass. Vernon Reid is a RIPPING guitarist, and this compilation just proves that.

Sepultura - Dead Embryonic Cells (Single): I had gotten this originally when it came out years ago because the name just cracked me up. It turned out that it was a pretty ripping song! Their cover of "Orgasmatron" is pretty good, too.

Shadow Gallery - Carved in Stone: Impressive. It would be even more so if the singer would get over his "Geoff Tate"-complex. After a couple of listens, though, I can see this one getting regular play in my CD player. Some serious bass-work on the first track, and some nice guitar playing throughout (although all the solos tend to sound the same after a bit).

And to the person who was talking about their friend who hated Dream Theater, and called them something like a second rate Rush - all you have to say to him is this: "Ignorance is a periodical, widely distributed, widely read, and free. It looks like you've subscribed."
