Okay, the response I got from the original "DT stuff for Trade" has been
extraordinary, if not overwhelming. The problem now is that the emails just
don't stop comming and I pretty much have maxed out on trades (that doesn't
mean you still can't offer) - especially if you have non DT stuff such as
MacAlpine, Jason Becker, Malmsteen, Savatage, Magellan, George Lynch, Haji's
Kitchen - then you may have more of a chance to get me excited.
If you don't have a trade, or what you are offering I already have a trade set
up for, we can still work out just a simple pay for the goods type of deal. I
don't have a website so I will just list the items and prices right here,
remember trades are still possible:

Maybe you think this is overpriced, but just think about if you want to spend
your weekend in front of a xerox machine. Not a picnic. Plus, with the
response I am getting, I think I am going to send my VCR to an early grave, so
I will probably have to go out and buy another one! Besides, by the
overwhelming response, you would swear I am the only person on the planet that
has these items! I wouldn't even do this but I don't like sending back emails
stating (too late, already have that item).
I have other Videos and Audio Tapes of unreleased material of other guitarist,
but they were given to me by the guitarist themselves, with the understanding
that I don't make copies for other people. If you live near me, perhaps you
can stop by and view/listen to them.

I was talking to my old axe teacher two days ago and he mentioned
something really strange-sounding to me. He is a student of Alex
Skulnic's and says that Alex is seriously considering dropping everything,
moving to New York, and playing straight jazz! Wacky, huh? He says it's
not official yet and may not happen at all, but Alex thinks that CA is too
lax as far as the music scene goes. He wants to be somewhere where the
dedication is higher. He would be totally dropping his fusion band here
and taking off. Just thought some people might want to know. Wellness.

Agreed. Hey, I was able to pick up a copy of Savatage's 'Dead
Winter Dead' yesterday. Exellent album. In the liner notes, there's thanks
to a certain "Derek Sherimean". Now is that a typo, or merely coincidence?
I know that both Sherinean and Al Pitrelli played for Alic Cooper during
the '80s, although I don't know if they were in the band at the same time.
I suppose that would be the connection.

The old address still works, actually, yes. Those of you who still have
it may use it if you so desire. The new address is actually a PO box
that I am going to maintain for protection purposes. So either way will
work just fine. If you have an oversized parcel to ship to me and you
don't know the home address, e-mail me personally and we'll make
arrangements; the PO box maintainer supposedly will keep any shipments
to me locked away until I come get 'em, but not with 24-hour access.

Xanadu is run by John DiBella. I don't know if he's on the Jam or
not... his CDR productions are almost entirely Yes, Queensryche, and

I'm not sure if they were in the band at the same time either, but I'm pretty sure they were. They have (had?) a little side thing going where they played clubs and stuff together with someone I can't think of called "Ethyl Mertz." They must've been I Love Lucy fans or something. heheh. So it's more than probable that it was our Derek they were referring to. I never looked through the FII credits and stuff, but it wouldn't suprise me to see Al Pittooey in the thanks to section. heheheh.

Here in Germany every prog fan says that Vanden Plas are the German version Of Dream Theater. At least in every magazine (album review), they say that Vanden Plas are the German answer of Dream Theater.
I mean, I like Vanden Plas but SUPERIOR are much better (IMO). Since Inside Out has organizied the tour with DT, Vanden Plas are getting very popular.
But what about SUPERIOR. They are so talented and make such a great music but because they are not signed with the Prog-Commercial lable Nr 1 "Inside Out", most of the prog and metal fans don't know them. They will not make it big, because they haven't the opprtiunity to tour with a major act for a full tour.
If you haven't heard SUPERIOR's BEHIND, you have missed something. I can't wait to hear their new album, which should be out in September.
Any comments ?

Yeah, I have had pretty much wear-off w/ rosewood fingerboards... If one doesn't want to go w/ flatwounds (which are nice for a more conservative tone, but less so if one likes to play harmonics a lot) I think nickel roundwounds are less hard on the wood than stainless steel roundwounds. Soundwise it's still a matter of taste, though.

I have played a Hamer 5 string w/ a 2TEK and I must say I was *impressed* at the difference it makes... if they only made a 6 string model, too, I'd rip the old bridge (a halfway massive construction, too) off my six string the day before yesterday... :-) No shit, IMSNHO this is state of-the art.

Heh... I've also been wondering what this might sound like. I didn't know of any other manufacturer who used alder for the neck. Just more of the typical alder sound? :-) Indeed could be interesting to give it a shot.

I have played a six string fretless w/ poplar sides and a Wilkinson bridge which lacked definition on the B string, otherwise also was pretty boring somehow. Another one I've played was a 4 string fretted w/ poplar sides and a quilted maple top, again w/ a Wilkinson bridge, but this one was like the best "Jazz Bass" I've seen in a long time, very dynamic... also well suited for pizz, slap and pick alike. (And don't bother to retell that old joke that bass players using a pick were frustrated guitar players as I bothered to learn guitar only after having played bass for years already :-))

On The God Thing I think they try too hard to sound like DT on some songs and they stretch some songs out too long. I prefer 'Colour Temple' while not as 'progressive' the songwriting is far stronger. > I mean, I like Vanden Plas but SUPERIOR are much better (IMO).
No arguement from me on that point, Superior are very underated in the prog/metal scene, though well known to most of us. I am sure Superior will get more popular when their new album is out later this year.

I can't believe Speak to Me didn't make the album! It's such a great song. I don't know what it is, but there are only a few songs - all of them relatively simple songs - that whenever I listen to them, all these deep emotional thoughts run through my head, and this is one of them (Rush's Time Stand Still is another one). If I listen to it when I'm a good mood, it puts me in a great mood and gives me energy. And every time I've listened to it the last couple of days after Team Canada's loss, it's put me in a very depressed mood and helped me deal with the shock (that may sound corny, some but to many of us up here, hockey is a religion... it almost feels like a good friend died).
If DT are really trying to concentrate more on writing "songs' and not "compositions", I think they should include more STM, HY, TAMP (the original version especially) and WAYN, and less crap like YNM, BMS, and AL. IMHO, YNM and BMS are really bad, really cheesy attempts at songwriting (AL is a bit better, but not great either). TWIUTB is pretty cool too, with some really cool parts, although I don't like the chorus that much, and it doesn't flow as well some of the others.

Today I received a returned check for my order of the Jason Becker CD as well as a letter from Jason Becker and an apology from Pat Becker that they could not fill the order.
Although the letter had mentioned some further difficulties, it also mentioned that the difficulty was overcome through surgery.
It did however mention he was in the process of signing a contract with Warner Brothers to have EVH and other guitarist to record a sort of Best of Jason Becker (unreleased) album. I can't wait to get my hands on that.
I am stuck with a big dilemna however. I may never hear the Perspectives album. I had offered up a Petrucci at MI Video and WDADU, IAW, and Awake full band tab. I am more than willing to trade any of these for a good CD-R copy of Jason Becker's Perspectives. I just can't accept the fact of not being able to hear it. Anyone can tell from Perpetual Burn that Jason is a true genius!
Please help!! I am also looking for some sights with possible sound clips of this album. Any hints? Thanks.
