    > without it?

Yup, most people don't have it yet, as far as I know. Trust me, you'll
know when everyone has it. That's when the shit hits the fan and we'll
start receiving 5-6 digests a day again... You know, people saying how
much it "sucks" or "rules". Posts from people who are disappointed and
posts from people who will point out that it is free. The usual stuff.

    > I still haven't received mine yet and I'm getting anxious!

Denis Schoen from the Dutch DT fanclub posted last week, that we could
expect the CD within the next two weeks. So, have a bit more patience,
      it's on it's way over. :-)

What I would like to know is this. What's the "deadline" for people to
subscribe to an official fanclub and still get a copy of the xmas CD ?
Whenever I come across a DT fan, I use the xmas CD to convince them to
join an official fanclub... I'd hate for them to join and not get one.
Of course the fanzines by themselves are reason enough to join... ;-)

    Hi!

You must be thinking of Mattias "IA" Eklundh of the swedish metalband Freak
    Kitchen. I don't know
much about guitars and guitarists, but he's the only one I've heard of
who's doing this remoter-control stuff. It sounds awesome, like a
    machine-gun or some nice double bassdrum-kicking :-)
I was very lucky and had the oppurtunity to see him play live where I live
(the south of Sweden) about a month ago. It was sort of a combined show and
clinic. He had the hose-clip you're talking about mounted on one of his
fingers and he made some pretty odd noises when using it. He sure is one
hell of a guitarplayer, and he's a lot of fun too.
I also saw Freak Kitchen (his band) play live here last winter, and it
kicked much ass. The other guys can really play too. They have two albums
out. Appetizer and Spanking Hour. I only have Spanking Hour (their latest
release), and it's very good. Check it out if you can find it!

Well Hartford kicked major ass. I'm not writing about it until now cuz
I had to take 2 days to try and remember everything about it. I cant
remember the setlist in order but here are all the songs that were
    played:

Ytsejam, Pull Me Under, Metropolis I (encore), Under A Glass Moon,
Voices, The Silent Man, Puppies on Acid, Lie, ACOS - Part VI The
Inevitable Summer, New Millennium, You Not Me, Peruvian Skies, Hollow
Years, Burning My Soul, Lines in The Sand, Just Let Me Breathe, and a
tiny bit of Smoke on the Water (it was a joke).

The opening band, whose name escapes me right now was pretty damn good.
Apparently, they're all Berklee dropouts. They also opened the Roxy
show in Boston a couple months ago. I was able to confirm this because
my friend that I brought is a Berklee student as well and she saw the
    Roxy show.

After they left, I heard a bunch of stuff being played. I'm not
familiar with the DT songs that did not make FII, but I assume some of
those were played because I recognized it as DT. Then there was the
Rooster song, and everyone in the place was singing along to it. Then
following that was the theme to A Clockwork Orange. And then the Boys
came out and started the show with LITS.

    * During the mosh pit some girl got decked in the face and had to be
carried away. (I fucking hate mosh pits especially at DT.)

    * During JLMB, there was a mike problem and KJL ran after the sound
dude, but MP sang the next verse and it was pretty cool. But no one got
to sing the MTV verse which pissed me off cuz that's my favorite part of
    the song.

    * During YNM, KJL pointed at JP on the "You" part and then when he said
"Not Me," he pointed at himself. And that's totally true because even
thoguh KJL is a strong part of the band, the musicians are the ones that
people care about more. I can really relate to that being a King
    Crimson fan.

    * The drum solo in Ytsejam kicked ass.

    * The highlights of the show had to be Ytsejam, Metropolis (I almost
pissed my pants out of excitement on this one), Lie, and Peruvian
    Skies.
    * I was hoping they would surprise us with Metropolis II, but
    unfortunately, they did not.

Overall, the show ranks up there as one of the three best shows I've
ever seen...the other ones being Queensryche August 3rd of the last year
in Hartford and George Clinton at Ithaca College (my school). All I
know is the next time DT is anywhere within a 200 mile radius of me, I'm
    there.

Ok, I was away for a week and I'd like to make a point about DT's lyrics vs. music
(since I basically started that discussion)

If DT wrote music on the level of Greenday and had the same lyrics as they do now
I wouldn't have listened to them.
If DT wrote lyrics on the level of Greenday and had the same music as they do (did)
now I would have still listened to them.

Is this the case to everyone on this list? Because this was the point I was trying
    to make all the time...

    ----
Well, I think it's time to post some of my opinions about FII and new
    DT in general...

First of all, I think it would have been much better if HK was still a part of BMS. The FII BMS sounds like an average metallica song and nothing more, yet the fix shows' BMS had a more DT sound and sounded more unique.

YNM, HY, TAMP & AL just ruin the flow and focus of the album...why does DT always have to ruin their albums with boring pop ballads? (I&W being the exception)

What's up with writing about every radio station you heard DT on, any chart DT made it into, etc (as Ivan-Assen Ivanov put it "I heard DT on the radio, oh joyous hour!"). It's not a surprise that with their most commercial release they would get recognition from the radio, it's certainly not because of their musical talent (professional player magazines excluded).

---- > From: MellowD502 <MellowD502@aol.com> > > YOU SPOILED F**K!!!! > This is a GIFT from DT and the fan clubs. You didn't have to pay a penny extra > for it.

Many people joined the club for this CD and they have every right to be disappointed and voice their disappointment.

I refuse to listen to a song I don't like a million times until I delude myself into thinking I like it.

    > and allow yourselves to be open minded enough

Well, I've seen this quotation on this list a while ago and I guess it's time to repost it...

'Being open minded is good, but not so much that your brains fall out' -- Carl Sagan

    > to appreciate it's talent, feel, and

If a band puts out one/many good songs it doesn't mean all of them would be like that.

    > (perfect) execution musically.

The studio version is always executed perfectly.

    > Remember that every song you > hear was first a feeling and an idea that these GREAT musicians had in > their head(s)

Great musicians with no creativity will not create good songs.

This is not the case with DT but I do think some of their songs are boring and it took less creativity to create them...

    > and were awesome enough to pick up instruments and > recreate those emotions through their playing well enough for

    gee, "we're not worthy! we're not worthy!" - Wayne's World 2 (I think...)

Are you saying that Hollow Years is a musically brilliant song?

---- > From: Ole Ernstsen <0402@post6.tele.dk> > > Poul w. cashman if you dont want to read some post > you just can skip it.

Then it's ok to post just everything to the jam?

I'm not sure, but this sounds like the type of thing Reeves Gabrels would do.He's also into using vibrators as a sort of E-Bow, and getting non-players to tune his guitar, just to see what sort of tuning it ends up in. He played for Tin Machine and is on tour pretty permanently with David Bowie. If I'm wrong, then I have no idea.

I was out visiting a friend in Leesburg, Virginia, and on 97.8 (I think) I heard "You Not Me"...TWICE!! Once in the evening about 9pm, and once at around 2 or 3pm in the afternoon. SAure, there are way better songs on the album,m but at least this is a step in the right direction. At least this radio station is playing the follow-up single, and not just stopping after BMS.

Anybody else heard it on their local rock radio? Hopefully it will stick (at least a bit) in the national radio airplay...

Last night I had the honor of paying 27 dollars to see DT in a club. The night started out with the obligatory dinner at the Franconia Pizza shop, where, dumb as I must be, I ordered a gyro. Yuck. It tasted like it had been sitting in the refrigerator for two years, waiting for a customer stupid enough to order it, then tossed in the microwave for a few seconds. Crisp pita bread, cold meat, and wilted lettuce. Yum, yum. Hung out with fellow jammers Pat D, Jason H, Steve Z and Mike B. Cool. Watched football. Lousy Vikings! There were people in line 1 1/2 hours before the doors opened. Bad sign #1. So we wait in line. It's not cold. Under 21 dude in front of us is sweating getting in the club. The Aerosmith show is all ages at the Cap Centre...shitkickers. Behind us is a couple who needed to get a room the entire night. Mmm, young love. Bad sign #2. So we get in, and there are already several people clumped up front, an opposite to the Fates show a couple of weeks ago. Ok, so we chill. Beer is a little warm, a harbinger of bad sign #3. It's getting warm in here, isn't it? We wait. Later as opposed to sooner Big Wreck comes on. They really suck. Not Cornell noodles. Fat-ass couple squeeze in front of me. Bad sign #4. Fat-ass woman decides to light up. Thanks. She likes to extend her elbow into my side. Thanks. She begins to sweat, exacerbating bad sign #3. Off comes a layer of clothing. Man, it's hot. No, I don't mind if you step on my foot. Mmm, cigarette smoke. I love it. Big Wreck mercifully ends its set. On comes the unreleased DT. Cool. Bad sign #1 increases bad sign #3. Bad sign #4 makes #3 worse. Follow that? Lotta fucking people, high temperature. Smelly people in close quarters. Hey, didn't this happen last year? Birch Hell? Yeah. DT takes the stage. There is no room on the floor. Fat couple stand behind bad sign #2, becoming a version of young love, perhaps hippo love. But smoking. And stinking. Signs, signs, everywhere there are signs...DT comes out sharp. They sound much, much better than they did at the Ballroom in DC last month. JLB is in much better form. Portnoy is an animal, it's true. Can you hack a few more loogies? A strange woman fondles Steve. She moves on to fondle several others as the night went on. Leather Jacket and Sasquatch bump through Pat. Bad sign #4 leave, possibly overheated. Bad sign #2 keep going. Get a room! Bad signs #1 and #3 are really cooking (heh heh). DT plays a few different songs this time around. YNM sounds better than it does on the cd. Nirvana follows. Leather Jacket gets tossed out of the way by Studious Boy Wonder. Sasquatch is in full effect. Show ends. Knees ache. Feet sore. Bad signs #1 and #3 are over - the people go home. It was fun. Bad sign #2 still kissing, no doubt. Bad Sign #4 still stupid, ugly and fat. Repeat entire session in a few months.

Well, that version from the LiT video is indeed really cool, but what scares me the most from that video is the jazzy solo after "To Live Forever". Man, that's simply incredible! I've been listening to it non-stop now and I simply can't get tired of it. BTW, after TLF, at the end of the solo (it's different from the one on LiT) on the boot "Lost in the Sky" (and also Mike Bahr's "When Dream and Today Unite"), there are some bits of a "Another Hand", the "intro" to THK.
