Why? Because they are honoring their contract with Sony?
That's pretty silly. Besides, they are cool with you having
tape copies, it's not like they don't want the music out there.
Speaking of getting the music out, echolyn was the only progressive
band I have ever seen that were cool with people taping. That's
right, both audio and video. I find that extremely admirable, and
something I wish Dream Theater would adopt.

Uh, why exactly would you lose respect for 5 guys who don't want people

I was born on June 30. I think this is the same birthday as Buddy Rich and
Yngwie J. Malmsteen, although I'm not entirely sure.
June 30 was also the day that Christ put his shoulder out while playing
rugby one day. He was out of the game for quite a while and so helped out
at the local RSPCA during his time off.
A fountain of knowledge, me.
Oh, I saw "Spiceworld" last night. Even though the Spice Girls are pure
evil, it is still *very* entertaining and a very enjoyable film.
Oh, and to Mike Bahr, "Good Will Hunting" was released late last year to
qualify for this year's Oscars and therefore is considered a 1997 film.
Nitpicker, me.

It has recently come to my attention that there's a cool game on the PlayStation (which obviously some of you have) called Monster Rancher. The basic premise is that you create your own monster by placing a CD in the PlayStation, which the game will read and determine what your monster will be based on that CD (i.e. how many tracks it has, the length of those tracks). This brought me to wonder: What kind of monsters would DT or other prog CDs make? (especially considering that the songs are typically fairly long, the CD's are usually somewhat longer, sometimes less tracks per CD) What has been confirmed is that one-track CD's, such as data CDs and prog concept albums (:{) ) produce pure breeds of monsters. Well, tell me what you folks think...(or have found out if you have the game)

I've actually got a hold of demos from FII, besides:
Take Away My Pain DEMO - from the Jap release Speak to Me - (I think that's the title from the Jap relese) You or ME - Hollow Years (And the other demo on the Hollow Years Single)

I think that's it.
JLMB Demo sounds a lot like it does on FII.
The others (CME wasn't relesed) sound a lot different and a lot more like DT. There has never been a DT song I haven't liked. But these songs prior to producer edit sound better. I was disappointed that they didn't officially release the Hollow Years Demo on the Single. ITS REALLY GOOD!! THere are whole added verses that really make the song complete.
PS. Mike B.- Are you planning on putting these songs on any boot?

Some time ago someone posted a "Guide to get into FW being a DT fan" or something like that, didn't?? Anyway, being a DT fan, I don't think you'll have any problems listening to any of their albuns after "Perfect Symmetry" (PS and APSoG being my favorites). The earlier material ("No Exit" and before) is much much heavier, yet still A LOT cool. Michael Kizer's page (http://www.goodnet.com/~mkizer/fw/fw.htm) has a lot of stuff about them also, it's a nice place to gather info on them.

Ugh! "No Exit" is waaaay too heavy. And it's not melodic at all. Interesting, but not a must have IMO. Their recent material is better, IMO.

Heard them both - IMHO, those aren't bass solos in YYZ, they're bass fills. And Mr. Big's first album rocks ass - I don't like "Addicted to that Rush" for the reasons I don't like bass solos, but songs like "Wind Me Up" just blow me away. Listen to the FILLS that he does in there - they accent the song but don't take away from the backbone of it. Know what I'm getting at?

I think it's "Lights! Roll the sound effects! Action!". I can't hear what he says after that, but if I had the Pink Floyd version somewhere near me right now I might be able to tell ya.

My favorite's ACOS - but if there were no ACOS ( :( ), I wouldn't be able to single one out. ACOS is just so perfect (not that other DT songs aren't), so epic . . . and it really had an impact on me - both musically and lyrically (score one for MP! See, he *can* write good lyrics when he wants to!). The first 20 listens or so were just overwhelming. And how about that climax at the end? Amazing.
