Oh wait...not just pretty good....I think Jaco IS one of the greatest bass
players for jazz music. In case anyone wants to see him live, there is a
video called "Jaco Pastorius - Live in Montreal 1982", just a couple years
before he was killed. That's so sad, huh?

Jaco was in some albums of Weather Report (Heavy Weather, Black Market,
Mr.Gone, 8.30, Night Passage (really good), Weather Report, Havana Jam I &
II, and he also played with Pat Metheny, Joni Mitchel, Al Di Meola and
    more...
His first album is a must have by the way.

    Take care,
    AE

    Hi ytse-surfers!!
I've been away for a while... so are true these rumors about metropolis part
    II?
It will be an EP like a change of season or a b-side in a single cd?
There will be more songs in this new EP?
What about new material from DT?

Heh, guys... Looking through a couple of jams I found out that you are looking for bass solos - if so, check out any release by Stuart Hamm... Besides as someone here before mentioned Weather Report having a good bassist, man, you were more than right - Jaco Pastorius (!!!!!!!) did play for WR, and I guess noone doubts that he was a bass-god!!!

Well, I finally caught up with the jam and since I gave up on participating in real discussion (no time), I'd say what I feel about cluttering the jam...

To add to a useless thread (remote DTC): I was born on the 4th of October, Awake's release date... (and Alicia Silverston's b-day)

Disclaimer: Contradicting other people and having different opinions is not flaming.

    > From: Rogerio Brito <rbrito@dijkstra.ime.usp.br> > > This isn't exactly a mailing list where we have to follow some > strict guidelines such as the Linux Kernel Mailing List.

This isn't a mailing list where you should post everything, you can also use private email. Roger, you're a big part of the problem...on jam #3467 (an example) you had two more posts, one saying who Kevin Shirley is and one describing APSOG.

Both posts were uneeded as this information is already in the FAQ (KS) and on various places on the web (APSOG). If you really want to help, do it through private email.

    > And another thing: if we were talking only about Dream Theater, > the subjects would the exausted after, say, 1 month, unless we were > talking about execution of the songs etc. But that's what tablatures, > song books etc are for.

Roger, your posts tend to be only factual information rather than actual discussion (i.e., intellectual wasteland (yes, I only said that because I think it sounds cool)).

I remember I posted something contradicting what you said sometime before Xmas and you never bothered to reply, even though you promised to.

Now, roger, if you insist on having ~5 posts in every jam why not trim the fat in the end (applies to many people with hugeass sigs):

    > Hope this helps, Roger...

Uneeded, you have it in your sig.

    Your homepage is already given.

Hmm. I don't know if I'd go that far, but I'm having a little trouble determining the ethical difference between a tape copy and CR-R copy. It's just different media, right? Do they mean a CD-R copy along with album artwork and such, or ANY CD-R copy, even though it may say "Verbatim" on the disk? Any thoughts? Syrinx?

Nice that we have a polemical member back... :-) It's also very interesting to see your posts to the newsgroups, which I feel I don't need to explain here. So, you have time to post to Usenet, but not to the 'jam. Oh, forgot that you only post one-liners to the newsgroups and this really doesn't take much time. :-))) But, of course, this has nothing to do with the Jam. :-))))

Of course I'm a big part of the problem. I'm here to fuck up with the minds of everyone. :-) That was my hidden intention here since day one. And, as you can see, I was, at least, partly successful. :-)))

    > Both posts were uneeded as this information is already in the FAQ (KS) and on > various places on the web (APSOG). If you really want to help, do it through > private email.

Ok, time to be serious now: there's a huge difference between mailing someone privately or sending a message to a public forum. I feel that opinions aren't worth anything (more on this later), not even mine. Sending to the 'jam I was sure that more and more people would follow the thread and correct my wrong facts or simply add some content that I didn't know or didn't remember to post. For instance, Kevin Moore's participation on PS.

What would be the importance of voice if men couldn't speak?

That's the advantage of having more people with you to share information. BTW, what's the recipe of the success of Internet, if not the ability to share information? Why have some grown people stopped doing their works to be kidding with their toys called computers and networks?

Back to "don't give a shit" mode.

    > > And another thing: if we were talking only about Dream Theater, > > the subjects would the exausted after, say, 1 month, unless we were > > talking about execution of the songs etc. But that's what tablatures, > > song books etc are for. > > Roger, your posts tend to be only factual information rather than actual > discussion (i.e., intellectual wasteland (yes, I only said that because > I think it sounds cool)).

This is why I'm sometimes posting undisputable things. Facts need no discussion and that's a way to keep things short. BTW, when I feel necessary, I send some useless comments. :-)

But my brain isn't working again and I don't see the connection between what I said and what you wrote above. Maybe it was supposed to have no connection, but again, I'm puzzled.

    > I remember I posted something contradicting what you said sometime before > Xmas and you never bothered to reply, even though you promised to.

Oh, sure... that was about the nice John von Neumann quote, right? I still have the post here, but summarizing (I don't think that it is worth sending a whole message just to address this point), I was telling that it isn't fair for people to flaming other people who like different music, because it's, after all, a matter of being used or not with the sound. You said that it's not true and then you contradicted yourself telling that if you were forced to listen to some alternative music, you might end up liking what you were listening.

Of course, what I was trying to "prove" is a very well known thing that every single radio station and record label knows about...

But if you still want, I can post to the 'jam the original article with specific comments.

    > Now, roger, if you insist on having ~5 posts in every jam why not trim > the fat in the end (applies to many people with hugeass sigs):

Hey, do I insist on having ~5 posts every 'jam? Thank ya, I didn't know that. :-))))

I think we've reached a bottom on this list when there is nothing better to do than complain about other peoples' sigs. I never really got the "sorry to waste bandwidth" thing. Such bullshit. It's not like the internet is the environment.

I bought the "Six Of One, Half A Dozen Of The Other" CD a few days ago and finally got to hear some tracks I've never heard before. (I'm still a Marillion newbie :) Brave is presently the only Hogarth-era CD I have but on this one, his voice is starting to grow on me. He's got such an elegant, more straight-forward vocal style than Fish and a really great range. Hogarth highlights are Uninivited Guest, Hooks In You, and Dry Land. As far as with Fish, I just love that eerie tribal wining to start off Assassing. That loud shout he does, "Chaaaaaa!!!!" just sends a chill down my spine everytime. Reminds me of Big Country (must be a Scottish thing ;) Mark Kelly really shines on that song too, for he is just a phenomenal keyboardist -- seems to have a bit of Keith Emerson influence. Warm Wet Circles is simply beautiful and Incommunicado just makes me want to dance like mad. I just laugh inside everytime he mentions "American Express Cards" (hee).

Also recently bought the live double CD "Real to Reel/Brief Encounter" and man, there is nothing like live Marillion!!! :) My favorites on that are Cinderella Search, Fugazi, and the studio tracks Lady Nina and Freaks. In fact, that same day I ordered from Fish's mail order place in Scotland -- The Company -- a live Fish CD from April 90 Hammersmith, Odeon and a limited edition Sunsets On Empire w/interview disc. (Hopefully it'll come with the CD-rom too! :)

I have come to believe that Fish is DEFINITELY THE BEST vocalist/ songwriter to ever come out of Scotland. (Jim Kerr of Simple Minds would be another). I just love the Scottish accent!!! Meanwhile, I am getting more and more accustomed to Hogarth's voice. I don't think they could have found a better replacement than in him (in my opinion). I am just dying to see them live one day as well as Fish!!!

Is it me or does Marillion seem to have this true MAGIC quality about them??? Their music really lifts my spirits to new highs and even their heavier songs are still beautiful to the ears. It seems that they may even have some Celtic influence - tell me if I'm wrong! In any case, their songs have this immense power and passion from within and I am constantly under this Marillion "spell". I just want to buy MORE AND MORE and can't stop thinking about them! HELP ME!!!!!!! :) I HAVE BECOME A MARILLIHOLIC!!!!! (A FREAK, MIND YOU!)

PLEASE!!!!!!!!!! If anybody would be able to tape some Marillion shows for blanks and postage, I would be very thankful!!!! I DO NOT HAVE ANY MARILLION OR FISH TO TRADE (THOUGH I DO HAVE "PHISH" ;) but I can send you a list of shows if you want (albeit none of them are in the prog-metal category). But if anybody could tape some shows for B&P, I'll be deeply indebted for your time!!!! :) :) :)

Thanks for reading and... Take The Time, Brian Kelley (no relation to Mark)

PS Please, please! If anybody out there would love to share their Marillion experiences with me privately or on the Jam, please do so! I would like to hear from fans who saw Fish with the band in the mid-80s. What were the crowds like at those shows? I've heard at one point they had a similar (but not entirely) following to the Grateful Dead here in the States. Any European fans out there, please feel free to e-mail me! Love to hear from some FREAKS!!!! :)
