I completely forgot....altho this is not exactly a guitar solo.....it is
however Rush and therefore MUST be considered.

I nominate the solo in Losing It...of the Signals CD. Talk about Eargasms
and slaying me in my seat! Tis the most melancholy thing I have ever heard
and yet so beautiful. This was what turned me onto the Boys from Canada!

I mean, I really love the jam and all, but it seems as if we've been so
scattered lately in terms of content that we've forgotten one thing over
the past 2 weeks: Dream Theater played a number of shows over in Japan and
I have yet to see one review posted. Where's that Japanese "je ne sais
quoi" that's so apparent on the LIT Video?? Huh, boys and girls?

..and what part of sounding like Ronnie James Dio is the bad
part? I don't think I have ever heard a vocalist (and you are
one, correct?) disparage Dio's abilities before. The man could
(and can, to a certain degree, for a 60 year old guy) sing a

I'm not such a great lover of drum solos, I want the drums to fit perfect
into the music as a part of it, neither more nor less. However, if you
mention drums and DT, I emidiately think of the intro to 6:00..

DT was pretty new to me (I had heard "A Change Of Seasons", and wanted more
.. much more!). So I bought Awake... Turned up the volume, and ... dum dum

Sebastian Bach is touring on his own with Richie Scarlet (Ace Frehley-- my
favorite; and not just because I hung out with him once). Skid Row is/was one
of my favorites, as well.--- I saw them on the Subhuman Race "Private
Listening Party" tour 3 years ago. WOW!!! The energy was overwhelming.

Al B.--- Paul Stanley is my favorite, but yes, Baz is cool, too. If you get a
chance, pick up Richie Scarlet's "Wise Guy From New York"--- Baz does backing
vox, plus he sings lead on "Sly Little Bitch"

While I agree that Stratovarius and SX are vastly different bands, I think
your logic may be a bit extreme. Are Strato and SX both metal bands? Hell
yes. The METAL definitely comes in front of the PROG in both of these
bands. Are they both neoclassically influenced? Definitely. Are they both
progressive and/or speed metal? This is where it gets arguable.

Stratovarius definitely goes for the less progressive edge with standard
song forms, but when they stretch out on the title track of Visions (10
minutes long) it gets very epic, very majestic, and I think they put
together a great prog metal track here. Other than that though, their
repetoire consists of mid-tempo power metal tune, high speed metal tune,
and power ballad tune, all with neoclassical stuff mixed in.

Symphony X on the other hand stretches it out on more than one tune on
TDWoT. But I think the roots of the music are very similar, SX just tends
to be a little more versatile and doesn't do the speed metal stuff all the
way through. The vocals are very similar in both bands although Russel
Allen's dual personality gives SX a great advantage. He can go from the
evil sounding Dio voice to the beautiful clean voice (Candlelight Fantasia
is amazing) and everything inbetween. Plus, since they're from the US, he
    doesn't have an accent :)

People seem to want to either call a band prog-metal or just plain power
metal these days. I think there are a ton of bands however that are putting
out stuff that falls somewhere inbetween. I find Angra to be way more
progressive and innovative than so many of the bands that are supposedly
progressive. Ah who cares, categories suck!

So besides all this metal shit, anybody who likes just plain old
progressive should go buy every Spock's Beard album immediately, and then
buy 10 more to give to all your friends and mail to radio stations to get
    this band promoted. :)

Oh yeah, I don't care Chris Buzby is a dickhead, Finneus Gauge is a great
    band.

I agree, one of the most beautiful things that I have ever heard,
in fact. And Apocalyptica's rendition of it is also beautiful.

But please, let me know if I'm wrong, but the only variation that
the word solos has in English is soloes, right? (I know that this isn't
subtle, but it should work, anyway) :-)

The time has come. Personally, I wish it hadn't, but it's here now, and there's nothing I can do about it. I need to concentrate on school a great deal more than I've been able to, and that means making some tough decisions. This one, however, is the toughest I've had to make.

I have decided to stop maintaining the Frequently Asked Questions list.

I am extremely proud of all that I have been able to accomplish, for us and for the band, during the brief time that I have been the FAQ maintainer. It has also been a great deal of fun, as any labor of love should be. But crunch time has started for me at school, and I just don't have the time to do what I need to here, and still be fair to you, my fellow Jammers, and to the band.

    So, I'm having a contest.

Naturally, I don't want to take this creation of mine (and those before me) and just hand it all over to some schlep like Dr. Mosh so he can go and dick it up, wasting the nearly two years I spent tweaking it. (Love ya, Mosh. :) But I don't really know who should be the next maintainer. So, I'm holding an essay contest. In 1 x 2^7 words or less, e-mail me privately and tell me why I should think about giving all the power and prestige of maintaining the FAQ to you of all people. Whoever convinces me most strongly that he/she/it is the best person for the job will become the new maintainer. Simple as that. Your e-mail address up on top and everything.

I would like to hand everything over on Sunday, February 1st, so try to get your e-mail in by Friday the 30th, ok? (And you lose if you have to ask how much 1 x 2^7 is.)

    Respectfully submitted, -d

Wow, just came from a friend's place and listened to a kick ass CD that Ptacek was raving about not so long ago. It's a CD by Al Di Meola, McLaughlin and De Lucia. It's a short *LIVE* CD (41 minutes). Very interesting material, definitely A MUST HAVE FOR PEOPLE INTERESTED in ACOUSTIC songs. I don't remember it's name, but it was something like "Live at night in LA" or something like this.

Also, a must have CD is a CD of Zanon, a brazilian classical music player. He interprets every composition of Heitor Villa-Lobos, a classical music composer (also brazilian). The CD has 79:3x minutes and is worth the aprox. 13 bucks that CD Connection is charging. GET IT NOW!!!!
