Well, I'd also like to contribute with it. Even if people don't
want their songs pressed on a CD by some Ytsejammers, we could set up an
ftp server with MP3 files (high quality, 44kHz, 128kbps or better) of the
cover songs... I don't know how much space I can have here, but I could
probably host some files, I think.

    Man,

What a flame on poor Trevor Rabin!!!

90125, Union, and Talk are SUPER albums!! Trevor is a GREAT singer and can write songs to boot!

I have his solo album "Can't Look Away", and it's among my favorite CDs. Great diversity from song to song, and great musicianship. Just because YES changed, deosn't mean they sucked afterwards!!! They brought in Trevor for a reason --> the whole back wanted to go in that direction as well.

As for Trevor singing more than John Anderson on TALK: That's a bunch of horseshit!!! John sings the majority of the songs, and Trevor is rarely up front from what I can recall. TALK is one of my favorite CDs, too.

Well, say what you want to say, talk what you want to talk, but Trevor is a hell of a musician and talent. I wish he had another solo effort out there somewhere....

I'm so broke, I'd join Bush in a nanosecond. With regards to Ytseprojects:

2 things would be very cool to do. I think it would be very cool to do a Ytsejammer cd, but the practicality must be considered. We have to be sure to address copyright issues, and make sure everyone eho wants to be represented is. I also think it's a mistake to start organizing this and setting limits the way it looks like it's about to be done. What we should do, IMO, is have bands that already have songs recorded (my own band doesn't have anything that I'm prepared to give to such a cd yet, but maybe soon) jump in and volunteer a song for the cd (and then Matt or whoever can keep track of that for now). Don't limit the length of the tracks... let them be what they are.. I mean, I guess it would be silly to include 20 minute epics and stuff, but we can very well do a double cd if we wanted to... let's not make size an issue (especially not size of hard drive space... if that's a concern, trust me, we have access to studios out here in Chicago for free, and I could handle transfering audio from tape, dat, minidisc, cd, or even .wav or video onto whatever media we wish to record on. Thing number 2: It's time to consider another Ytsecon. I will organize a group of people who wish to take part in deciding where, what, and when (anyone is welcome to join in.. I just assume that not everyone on the jam wants to hear the discussion, since not everyone will show up) but lets get moving on this. Mail me at Ytsecon@prognosis.com and we'll get the ball rolling. If someone else feels they can do a better job, I have no problem passing the ball to more capable hand. Merely, like the last petition, I have the convenience of an easy domain name, and unlimitted e-mail names, so it would be easy to start this thing up.

Mail me with your name, e-mail address, and city, state/province and I'll start this thing up.

    Take care!

Sure! Just make sure you encode with high-accuracy (normal kinda sucks). It doesn't change the size, but the quality difference it definately there.

Obviously. I've dealt with copyright issues beofre. Nothing new here.

good points regarding limits. I set them as practicality standards. I was thinking of convenience -- 11 megs per minute of AIFF file, 100 megs per Zip Disk, etc... I do agree with you now; a 2-CD set isn't any tougher than a 1 CD.

Hey, if you'd like to volunteer services, great! We'll get in touch.

Limiting it to bands with stuff already recorded is silly, though. There's time yet. It's not like I'm going to hammer this together in a week and get it to you guys by Valentien's Day. It's a summer project. You have a few months to get a group of buddies together and play and practice and record a song, even if it's on your 4 track (that's what my contribution will be on -- with some help from my friendly neighborhood computer ^_^).

Could you visit 'Under A Cyber Moon' and let me know how fast/slow it loads ? I've tried to make it load as fast as possible. Once in a while, I get connected with 9600 bps (bad line or something) and the site still loads pretty fast... I'm also curious how the place looks in text browsers, browsers that don't support frames and any browsers other than Netscape and Internet Explorer. I've optimized the site for a 800 x 600 resolution. How does it look, when viewed with other resolutions ? Just trying to make sure everyone will be able to view the site properly.

Personalli, I would love to have a cd packed with orginal music from the Jam. I am not a fan of 'tribute' songs.. hell. let DT do it themselves =). But I love to hear new, original music with fresh ideas. So I say, why the hell not do it?!?!? A great way to get others to feel your creativity!

Okay, you've prolly read Chris's comments already -- he has some good points. This is what I'm going to do, in light of the point he brought up:

ONE: 2 CD's -- that's 148 minutes total. Anything else might become impractical. I'd like the project to be on a completely volunteer basis to reduce the costs as much as possible (hopefully no one should have to pay more than disc cost plus shipping). I'll eliminate my 9-minute max rule, on the condition that the times be kept reasonable so that every jammer can get their track on. One song per band, original work recommended (DT covers would certainly be cool; I'll have to look into tribute rules again, but I think all the guys who did "Working Man" had to do was ask permission from the band themselves -- I know at least one of us has a semi-direct line to Mike ^_^ -- BUT I'M NOT SURE.)

TWO: I won't be accepting any submission (if I'm not "outbid" for managing the project) until at least mid-April (spring term here at the U of O). So, if you like, you have time to rerecord, or write a new song or whatever. Every musician on the jam should have a chance at this, not just ones with previously recorded material.

THREE: Nothing is guaranteed. This is in the very beginnings of preproduction. Give us (all of us -- we'll all prolly end up helping in one way or another ^_^) some time to get things completely organized (that's why I'm waiting till mid-April to even begin collecting submissions). I also want to have the best possible sounding recording and performances possible (this sounds obvious, but in the rush to get it out, corners invariably get cut), to best represent the jam. Certainly DT will get a copy of the CDs (Mike'll send a copy, wontcha Mike? ^_^), so we should try to just do our best and take it one step at a time until we can go from the crawling stages to a full run.

I'll guarantee one thing: I'll work as hard as I can to get this done. If we take this slowly (but not forget about it), then things will get done, and get done right.

    Thanks for listening, --Matt
