    a. There's a Rick Wakeman CD called 'No Earthly Connection' in which

Yessongs, er, really anything from RW
    c. Rainbow - Intro to "Tarot Woman" from the album Rainbow Rising,
    solo by Tony Carey
    d. Eloy - from the 'Planets' album, the song "On the Verge of
Darkening Lights", solo by Hannes Arkona and Hannes Folberth
    e. Saga - "Don't Be Late" from 'Silent Knight', solo by Jim Gilmour
    f. Thin Lizzy - "Thunder and Lightning" from 'Life-Live', solo by
    Darren Wharton
    g. Camel - "Ice" from the album 'I Can See Your House From Here',
    solo by Kit Katkins
    h. Genesis - Meddley from 'Three Sides Live' by Tony Banks

    Vocal Department:
    a. Rob Halford on Judas Priest's 'Unleashed in the East', intro to
Sinner: "You're in for a surprise, you're in for a shock!"
    b. Ronnie James Dio on 'Rainbow Rising', "Stargazer": "Oh, now where
do we goooooooo?..." before the guitar solo
    c. James La Brie singing Deep Purple's 'Perfect Strangers'
    d. Fish in 'Forgotten Sons': "Minister, Minister, care for your
children!...." and so on until the bit "Amen!!"
    e. Jim Morrison singing 'Roadhouse Blues' live, the bit where he
    just sings nonsense.
    f. Steve Walsh, singing 'Icarus (Borne on Wings of Steel)' from the
    album "Masque"

    That-that-that's all folks!

Man, is everyone keeping tight lipped about this thing or what? I
haven't seen a single review yet since it has been released in the US.
My impressions are that it is heavy and a total shredfest. Can somebody
say, John Petrucci Solo album. That's what this seems like to me, since
like every few minutes he's ripping into another solo. Don't get me
wrong, the music is awesome, but it's a little too much wanking for my
taste. Also, I am a little disappointed with Terry Bozzio's
performance. He rarely just goes nuts like I would have liked him to
do. But I will say that his playing is tasteful, but with everyone going
crazy, why doesn't he? Also, I just had to mention that the guy from
Dali's Dilemma (Matt Bradley?) sounds awesome. I think he should have
gotten a larger share of the vocals, seeing as how the Cairo guy gets the
whole first song which is 16 minutes long, and IMO is the weakest singer
on the CD, while Matt Bradley gets only two verses to sing on Impact 2.
As far as compositions go, Trent Gardner has really done a good job, and
all of the lyrics are definitely meaningful (not historical like his
usual stuff) but actually refering to the state of progressive music,
which I think is cool, but also at the same time preaching the converted.
    Well, that's my $.02. Discuss.

    Scott

I've just got to add Soundgarden's "Zero Chance" and "Tighter & Tighter"
to the list, plus the best toothache song, "Carry Stress In The Jaw" by
Mr. Bungle. Vai's "Tender Surrender" and Skid Row's "In A Darkened Room"
    also make my day.

Try any Ultravox for some intense sadness, "Visions In Blue" and
"Lament" spring to mind plus several songs from "Rage In Eden". They all

Everyone knows Bozzio can go nuts... but it's great to hear him play with
feel and tempo once in a while... Impact 1 and 5 have enough psychoticness
    by Bozzio...

I usually don't jump on the bandwagon... But what the hell. I'm not going to echo previous posts, I'm going to drag some things out of the woodwork to see how many of you have heard some of this stuff. I avoided the obvious, and kept this list DT & FW free. Some of these may only borderline sad, but they all stir emotion.

King's X - Goldilox Pat Benatar - Wuthering Heights Aldo Nova - Ball And Chain Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms Alan Parsons Project - Time 'Til Tuesday - On Sunday (I'm not kidding, that's the song title) Eddie Money - One Chance Deep Purple - Child In Time Boston - Amanda Styx - Man In The Wilderness

And the bonus track to tweak the old timers... Bobby Goldsboro - Honey

Now how about a thread on songs that give you the creeps? Not morbid or shocking lyrics, just creative writing.

Deep Purple - Pictures Of Home YES - The Gates Of Delirium The Doors - The End Uriah Heep - The Magician's Birthday Rush - Witch Hunt Queesryche - Suite Sister Mary Alice Cooper - Steven Iron Butterfly - In-A-gadda-Da-Vida Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit Lucifer's Friend - Lucifer's Friend AL Stewart - Life In Dark Water Mannheim Steamroller - Sirens And sooooooo many more. I love em' all!

P.S. Some Type O Negative came to mind right away, but that fell into the morbid category. I can't imagine why.... :)

I'd recommend giving Sarah McLachlan's Ben's Song a spin. The four-hanky chorus still tears me up.

And I've always thought the unplugged Tears cover that DT did a while back is worthy of mention

    Hi all

I've just got to say this:

Am I the only one, or is this 'realism of combat' stuff weird? Combat = scenes would only be realistic if the actors didn't get up again after the take = for the simple reason that they were fucking dead, or had limbs missing, or were = too busy trying to stop their intestines falling out of openings that they = didn't have before the filming started. That, and only that would be realistic. = If that's what you are looking for, just switch on your TVs and watch the news coverage of one of the numerous wars that are currently raging = throughout the world. It's cheaper too - war victims are usually prepared to die = for free, unlike many Hollywood 'stars' (a shame really).

It also strikes me as odd, that some people who have their own very high standards for the music that they consume are prepared to go to the cinema and watch really crappy disaster films featuring these so-called 'stars', films with no real story line, films that just consist of one = special effects 'highlight' after another and which have absolutely = bugger all to do=20 with reality - no realism there either.

I'm out of here for today and going to a burger bar - where's my Uzi?

Every prog fan should get "Time Lost" and "A Blueprint Of The World". "Time Lost" is much better than "Wounded" and so is "A Blueprint ...". "Time Lost" contain 1 new, 3 really old (pre Blueprint) and 3 songs from the "Wounded" session. These songs are really great.

    Another thing :

As I allready said : The new album "Break" will be released in Europe on 31.08.98. The first edition is a special limited edition which contains a bonus track. The cover totaly sucks. No Enchant font :-(

Are you a musician yourself, and if so what kind? Personnaly I'm a Jazz musician, and playing "off the cuff" is my job description. I was not impressed by the 30 minutes jam. It was a typical 30 minute jam.
