That's because you're using Netscape. Either download the file
with a REAL browser ;) or check out Under A Cyber Moon's sound
clips page. You can download "uncook.exe" or "phix.exe" there.
Either program can be used to fix the MP3. Personally, I would
suggest installing GetRight... Depending on the server you are
downloading from you can pause downloads and finish them later
or resume broken downloads.

Been lurking for awhile, pretty busy. I'm interested in trying to
develop some type of strategy for getting radio play for DT. I know
it can be difficult, but I'm begining to notice my local station is
playing some new hard rock more often. I wonder if anyone has noticed
this in their area (I'm in Wichita), and if they have any ideas. I
believe an organized effort, even if the record company isn't
involved, can work. I've made requests many times to my local staion,
and it really does seem to come down to the numbers. Also, any ideas
on how to develop a weekly radio show, devoted to P-Rock. Any help
would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Pat

Hmm... this is interesting. I'm not a fan of bass solos, even though
I'm a
bassist, but there are some that stick out in my head:
'NV43345' by Billy Sheehan
'Snake Soda' by Vital Tech Tones with Vic Wooten on Bass
'Monkeysuit Businessman' by Michael Manring
'The Peanuts Theme' by Stu Hamm
'Waterfall Cafe' by Mark Egan
'Erotomania' by John Myung (not really a bass solo, but you know
what I
mean).
Most of the stuff that sticks out in my head, in terms of bass, is
the
melody as opposed to a solo, though. I could go on for hours about
that...

Thought this portion of a thread I've been reading on Usenet would be of
some interest, if not amusement. Sorry but the expire on our server for
r.m.p. is set to a minute or two :), so I don't have all the articles
which began the thread. Deja News should have all of it though.

It seems that whenever Dream Theater is mentioned on r.m.P., it
invariably brings out some fairly heated debates about music in general.
It's as much of a battle for recognition and respect in there as it is
for the band in real life. Many of the self-proclaimed experts who post
there seem to feel the need to keep reminding the world that Dream
Theater is not progressive, labelling them 'Pop Rock', 'Popular Hard
Rock', just about anything without the word 'progressive' in it. Just a
guess, but I think the Balls 'N Chunk scares them :)
I laughed when I saw the 'black metal' label :) How many songs by DT has
that guy listened to?
It got me to thinking though (I know, I know, run and hide!). What if
the guys did a song that was just truly wrong. Some kind of
Death/Thrash/Black/Angst kind of song, with sick feedback/distortion,
Derek stabbing his keys Emerson style, John M shouting some obscenity,
Mike completely ruining a drum set, James growling. Forget about chops,
forget about complexity, just torture the electronics! You get the idea
:)
Perhaps the title of the song could be "Too Much Spice, Girls"
This might get significant airplay. We're talking album sales here,
peeps! Pacify the machine by giving the appearance of selling out. Not
to worry, the rest of the disc would contain more conventional songs
like Metropolis II :)

Hey, I'm kinda new to drumming, and I'm wondering if someone could maybe help me out with a part from metropolis. I've only got a five piece, so that may cause some need for improvising, but here's how I'm doing it on my five piece now. It's the part that starts about a minute into the song, with the toms, it's also during the "I was told..." verse. (sorry that this looks so stupid, and so big, it's the best I can do....)
F= floor tom T= first tom TT= second tom S= snare B= bass drum X0= open high hat on the four and closing on the "e" (if that makes any sense, I'm not sure I really know what that is... I could be off in wording on that )
XO T T TT S S
F F F F F F B B B
That's the best I can do to get it to look almost right, if anyone has any clue what I'm talking about and knows how to play it correctly, any e-mail or posting on the ytsejam would be grately appreciated. Thanks!!!!

The fan club section on Itchy's page needs to be updated. First of all, it says that you get a signed photo of the band, but Neil had responded with a negative for any signed material. Second, it says that you need $15 to join, but the price is up to $18 now. Third and most importantly, this address thing is pissing me off. There's no way in hell i'll send anything overseas, and there's no way for me to rejoin the club. I'm not the first to comment on this, and if there's anyone who could add something to this, especially if you are currently in the club, please do so. Thanks.

Hello ! Yes, the Ayreon album is a superb album and much better than their second album, although that one is great too. The main man behind this cd is Arjen Lucassen from Vengeance. The album is a concept album and has an undertitle as a rock-opera, but don`t expect any opera singing. The album in itself is build up as a opera with different characters, and the main character is Ayreon. A lot of different styles is to be heard on this album, where the aor, symphonic, progressive and melodic metal style is the most dominating. And even elements from different musical epoches is to be heard. A lot of different musicians makes this cd a special one. I think that if you like symphonic metal with progressive elements to it (as i know you do) you will probably love this. Great production too.=20 A must have. =20

We just got in the new CD by progressive metal band Power Of Omens. If you are into Mike Portnoy or Mark Zonder (Fates Warning), you've got to hear this CD. The drummer is the most amazing rock/metal drummer I have ever heard. There's a song on there that is around 20 minutes long that is unbelievable. The guy actually took lessons from Mark Zonder and it shows. He's taking it to a new level, though. The rest of the band is awesome, too. The CD is a cross between DT's 'Images and Words' and Fates' 'Perfect Symmetry'. The vocals are very similar to Geoff Tate. I've got a couple of RealAudio files up on the website, but they do not do justice to the CD.

I've wondered that also...I think it's hacker-speak for being "Eleet", or elite. Guess it's supposed to mean boss, rad, gnarly, funkritudinal, and all that other stuff. Probably with emphasis on technology.

i was in this thread. you missed the DT related part, that was an earlier thread arguing about how progressive DT was.
this later sub-thread was talking about watchtower, asptic ink, meshuggah, and cynic.

he was not talking about DT at all, he was complaining that the four technical metal bands i mentioned above have no atmosphere or feel. i was arguing that they do.

that misspelled band name would be Spastic Ink - a brilliant instrumental record by the 2nd watchtower guitarist, Ron Jarzombek.
