i've lusted after an MC/1 for years. But seeing as how it's roughly 8 times
as expensive as my current guitar, that'll have to be a little bit farther
down the road. :) Another guitar brand i'd love to have is Mad. Ever heard
of em? I saw it in one of those yearly guitar and bass buyers guides, and
fell in love. however, to rework a common saying, you pay for what you get

Strangely enough, sometimes it is: I ordered Mosaic, waited the
prerequisite three months, and then saw he had sent it off. Nothing came
for three more weeks. I e-mailed Mike, and he said he'd send off another
for me. A week later, I got that one. Three weeks after that, I got the
original one. I still need to send it back... or maybe we're just even

It was freeky-odd. And I seem to remember the page saying he was getting

Cool! I'll have one son with a doctorate from MIT and the other I'll
teach to drool into a cup that's permanently attached to his bed. After
six or seven years, I'm sure he'll get at least half the spit NEAR the
    cup...I'm gonna be soooo proud.
Cool idea, though. I plan on raising mine on mostly prog with some Alice
Cooper mixed in, just to make it interesting.
Only problem is my fiance likes country. What's happens to a kid raised
on country? should I start contributing to the special olympics now?

It's a vicious amp. What makes the cabinet sound good, though, is the 90
    watt Celestions.

Uhh, WRONG. Let me assure you that my Marshall JMP-1 feeds 220+ volts to the
tubes, and uses them for overdrive. At least, according to Marshall...

The ADA MP-1 was guilty of not being high voltage, and you could use solid
    state distortion...

     and
    > that it's a much smaller amount of voltage fed to them. Another preamp
    > that claims to use high voltage on the tubes is Rocktron's

That does sound pretty good. The Triaxis sounds great - it'll do just about
any Boogie amp - but it really only sounds good with a 2:90 power amp.
Boogie will even tell you they're voiced to work with each other...

If you don't need the midi programmability, I'd say get the Recto. Of
    course. :)

Thanks to all the people who recommended Joe Jackson. Yesterday I
bought Night Music and it's really pretty. A cross between folk and
Ryuichi Sakamoto's 1996. Only one bum track ("Flying"--ugh, what awful
keyboard sounds on this one ... should have kept to the Ondes Martenot,
which is a beautiful sounding instrument).

    Hey all,

First of all, thank you to Steve, Jeff and Chris for the stuff on Magellan,
    I should
receive their first two albums in like a couple of weeks from now.

Being detailed about The Quest is not an easy thing to do, but I'll give it
    a shot.
They're a British band, and I found their second album "Change" at a local
    store,
for those interested (and you all should be !!!) they're on Now & Then records,
catalog number NTHEN31. I'm still trying to find out what their first was
    called,
so if any of you can help, please do.

I can't find any way to describe their music, personally I think they're
    better than
Dream Theater, more mature, they seem to do more with less, so to speak. Great
musicians, all of them, especially the vocalist, who also happens to play
    the sax. Hey,
I can't say what it sounds like, just that it's utterly brilliant. Buy it !

Hey, I resemble that remark! :)

I know in my personal experience, that my parents weren't directly
major influences on my musical tastes, but they did
allow/encourage exploration on my part. I think my big turning point
for listeneing to music was the first time I ever heard music from a
CD. It was in high school, and the band director played a Boston
Pops CD. We had just recently seen them live, and this (to me)
was so close it was scary. That changed me from someone who
"heard" music to someone that "listened" to it.

After being really amped to see MAIDEN and DIO, I showed up
only to find it had been postponed until Aug 2. There isn't
a worse feeling in the whole world. There were a lot of pissed
off metal heads there. I think it was a last second thing because
tons of people still showed up.
Anybody know why it was cancelled?

I have a question about this tour. Is Dio dropping off at some point, because around here (Minneapolis MN) they're just advertising it as Maiden/Dirty Deeds. That would blow if Dio isn't there.

My view of the TTT thang:

1st Verse: MP 2nd Verse: JM Chorus: MP has said they wrote it together

3rd verse: *definitely* JP 4th: KM

I'm not so sure about the 2nd and 4th, but i gave the 4th to Kev because of the 'blind' and 'water' references. He uses those in other I&W songs which i cant remember right now. (Havent heard that CD in a loooooong-ass time)

Brian Moore guitars: I've always liked how they looked. I played one once unplugged and it felt nice. But I havent played one thru an amp.

In any case, if you dig it, you spent your money well. They're definitely good quality guitars. Dont worry so much about what other ppl think. Evyrobody's dream guitar is different.

Hey All-- Geez, I don't check my mail for 2-3 days and I miss loads of juicy SX discussion. Well, another opinion to add to the pile:

Symphony X is probably in my top 3 bands. They really just blow me away. Heavy riffing (my #1 love) abounds, and most of the riffs are interesting and not recycled sounding metal cliched crap like the new Slayer (IMO). Interestingly, the lyrics are one of my favorite aspects about the band; I checked out a website prior to my first SX purchase, and I thought the lyrics were just too cool; no cheese anywhere in sight. Sorta like old Fates Warning Arch-era lyrics. But then again, that's the kind of stuff I dig. I prefer shadowy, open to interpretation fantasy-esque type lyrics to normal-straightforward-simplistic type lyrics. Obviously other people on here have a different taste, which is cool. This stuff just works for me. As for vocals, I would say Russel Allen's presently about the best. I can't think of anyone who I think has a better voice (suiting my personal taste, anyhow) without putting a date beside that name (mid-80's Tate, for instance). Guitar: Romeo is much praised as a virtuoso. I don't know about "phrasing mistakes" or whatnot, because I'm not a lead guitarist. But I know what I like and I like what I hear. The keyboard work sounds good enough to me; and the drumming is always solid, even though that position appears to be a revolving door. That's all well and good, but the *songs* just kick so much bootay. That is, and should be, the most important factor. I think the songwriting is excellent; top-notch. At least for me, these are songs you can (and will) listen to, and listen to again, and again, and again...without getting bored. There's so much content, it (esp. Divine Wings) was a little hard to digest the first time or two. But I've recently realized that Divine Wings (the song) has probably become my favorite song ever, bar none. Amazing, amazing, great wonderful stuff I can't rave enough about.

An interesting sidenote: the band was forced to record Twilight In Olympus before they had finished the writing. They were still finishing one song...the epic title track akin to Divine Wings. So, as great as TIO is, what we've heard is basically the album without the main song. Wow. Romeo said that they'll probably finish it up and put it on the next record.

To whomever inquired about the Marrietta drum clinic: I'll be there, at least that's the plan as of now, though an unforseen situation that just came up may change that :( ; but, I should be there, probably wearing my trusty AWAKE shirt :) Also, I know that Phil Carter, Paul Cashman and Harmon Caldwell were planning on going. Should be cool.

As much as I want unlimited success for OFB, I'm still just not sure that I want them to be subjected to the"mainstream". By all means, vent. It seems Mr. Bahr started sending shipments using some "special rate" postage, which may as well be BookRate or whatever it's called these days, so the USPS takes their sweet-ass time to deliver. At this rate, Mike managed to send me four CD's in a padded envelope for a mere $1.24. I guess that helps him reduce prices. My copies (low numbers, I forget exactly, probably in the teens or something) arrived on July 15. The postmark says July 6. How else might his prices have dropped ? Well, the liners aren't printed at a printshop but appear to be done on a regular ol' color printer like you'd pick up at Office Max or something. Fine. Let's streamline the operation by not even clipping out the liners from the 8 1/2 x 11 paper it was printed on and just stuff them inside the envelope alongside the CD(s). Oh wait, let's cut costs a little more by not even putting a 2CD-set (SoC, for example) inside a 2CD case...nope....let's just leave each individual CDR inside the Verbatim case that came with it. Sure, why not. Hey, at least the CD's are painted, right ? Sure. And let's streamline the whole process a little more by not cleanly editing/fading/etc the audio at the beginning and end of each CD or doing some simple signal processing to reduce the noise/hiss/clicks/pops/etc. Gotta cut them corners, right ?

At least you got a reply from Mike. Be grateful for that. He doesn't bother with my petty emails. Bah.

    Good day.

You obviously haven't read his page recently (if you're sending him money, you sohuld probably check in once in a while). just correcting a few things - some of the things you described are un purpose. not to cut corners.

    >Fine. Let's streamline the operation by not even clipping out the liners >from the 8 1/2 x 11 paper it was printed on and just stuff them

this is because some people in some foreign countries the CD cases come in slightly different dimensions, or something like that, and since an uncut liner can always be cut, but not vice versa, he opted to do the thing which accomodates everyone.

    >right ? Sure. And let's streamline the whole process a little more by not >cleanly editing/fading/etc the audio at the beginning and end of each CD

this is also un purpose (how the hell is that supposed to be spelled, anyway? and what does it mean? un purpose means without purpose, which might be better used for things done by accident than un purpose. i'm probly just spelling it wrong. anyways...), so that in the (near) future when larger media becomes available, people can record both CDs to one i dunno, DVD or whatever and it'll play fine, instead of having the dropout in the middle of the show. read mike's page, he explains it better than i do. the rest, i have no comment on, maybe he'll reply. don't worry, i'm owed a Bahr CD too. i'm impartial. not defending, though not attacking. Moo.
