Ok, you guy's are really letting me down, seriously.
How come I didn't hear about Attention Deficit until
I went to the cd store today? Anyway if you haven't
heard of it either, it the latest BLS, LTE, VTT-type
Magna Carta All-Star Improv Extravaganza Jamapalooza.
It features Alex Skolnick(Testament, Savatage)-guitar,
Tim Alexander (Primus?)-drums and Michael Manring (? help)
-4,6,10 string bass. (Is there a 10 string bass or do you think
it was a Stick?).
So they locked them in a room for 6 days and made a cd.
Unfortunately, IMO they could have used at least another
week or so. The cuts, ranging from :10 to 11:55, sound
really free form and unfinished. Some good ideas, but
nothing really solid. Either that, or I'm missing something.

John West(Artention-vox) has another solo one as well.
Other new stuff today(not prog)
Night Ranger, Howard Jones, Big Sandy, Indigo Swing, BR5-49.

Try running a Taylor acoustic through a TriAxis, into a 2:90. You'll
probably never hear a better acoustic sound :) Then put some Lexicon
reverb and TC Electronics delay on it, and...well....even better :) but
VERY expensive.

As far as albums go, My fav is "Gretchen Goes To Nebraska"
I like "Dogman" also, Dogman is about as heavy as King's X gets.
The one I like the least is "Ear Candy" I like some tracks, some I just skip over.
I think anything by King's X is a worthwhile purchase though.

I'd say (this is IMHO, of course) that SX (from the one disc I have) is probably the best heavy power/progmetal band I've heard.

I dunno, I actually kinda like the medieval-ish sounding lyrics. They have a cool feel that differentiates them. If you look, some of DT's older stuff is sorta similar (but to a much less degree). I even read an article where Derek Sherinian said one of the biggest differences in the new DT material is that the lyrics aren't as "Dungeons & Dragons" as the older stuff.

I just feel that their songs put some great imagery in my head (as well as kicking ass).

Yeah, I guess they're definitely a Dungeons & Dragons influenced band. I actually love those titles though, particularly "Of Sins and Shadows", "The Divine Wings of Tragedy", and "Candlelight Fantasia".

Hmmmm..... I'll go along with superfuckin' fast. I'm not proficient enough in guitar to really make much comment on the articulation, phrasing, and accentuation. Anybody else care to comment?

Probably the only thing I think is a little weak is the guitar-keyboard-guitar solo thing in every song. It's a little repetitive, I'll admit.

While we're on the subject, how do you feel about their vocals and keys?

I love both. I must say that Russell Allen's vocals are PERFECT for a heavy power band like SX. He has a really powerful growly voice (without being too growly), that's crystal clear. Oh, and he can actually sing soft bits as well. Pinella is one of my favorite keyboardists also.

Yes, Matt, alltough, I'm not so sure about Welcome but the others I aree with, but I'm telling you, it's not easy to find it. It's so subtle. Alot easier to "figure it out"(Wich DT song is this from, you can win fame and glory) when the drums are in on it. Last, kind of prog-ish is also Dogs and Sheep. But Queen also has some of that stuff, can't remeber where? Are there any Queen fans around here? Not that Ryche, but the good ol' band with Freddie Mercury.

But another point I would like to make, and this was said some weeks back or so, is that prog isn't the time change in it selfs, I personally hate it when a band change a beat just to change the beat, it's simpley just not good music, that's why I love DT, it's so damn natural. Now my experience in prog isn't so wide, I've heard Rush, Fates Warning, and Segus(?) Even, I think it's pretty good. Since I am above you all, and got a great mind, thats my 5 dollars

I wonder if I am the only one disappointed that the non FII studio tracks that were played live in Europe ONLY didn't make the live 2cd set. Sure there were reasonings that they only wanted to put released stuff on there but they also put songs we have already live from LATM. Portnoy hasn't offically posted to the jam about the non FII studio tracks but other have mentioned that they will go on the next studio album. Well things happen and it could easily be that they dont make it. There's also mention of them being tracks on singles but we've only seen one make a single so far.

It still will be a kickass cd so I shouldn't complain too much...

I just received the Hot Trax CD from Modern Drummer. Excellent CD by the way for you drummers to check out. It has a different version of Chris and Kevin's Excellent Adventure on it.

Anyway, I thought I would post the answer Mike gives about the name:

A: Well, we didn't have any time for a photo session for the album, so there was actually a photographer running around the studio taking pictures while we were laying down tracks. This photographer kept calling me Chris and Tony, Kevin. He just kept messing up our names, so when it came time for Tony and I to name this duet, I said, "Why don't we call it 'Chris and Kevin's Excellent Adventure'?" [laughs]

There you have it, strait from the man himself.

P.S. The Virgil Donati track "Drumspeak" was fucking incredible!! He plays as fast with his feet as most drummers play with their hands.

Well well, some of you were asking about Queensr=FFche and talking about= their 4 new songs. Well, that's kind of old news now... here's the latest from Michael Wilton himself:

"I just wanted to stop by and let everyone know that Queensryche is kicking ass. We have 16 tunes in the works and our management, QPrime, says that this is the best music that they have heard out of us in 5 years. The band is getting along the best that it has since Empire, and a hot deal is in the works!"

Since Michael was always the "rocker" one, I think that's where the new material is heading... and that's why he didn't like the last two albums as much (see where he mentions "best music in 5 years"), they were much mellower and almost totally written by Chris DeGarmo... but Promised Land IS one of the best albums ever, IMO. Well, that's besides the point, I think that after the band almost breaking up (Chris leaving, Geoff trying out for Journey and being turned down), it seems like things might be finally going back to a good direction in Queensr=FFcheland.
