so last night, a friend of mine calls me up and invites to a free concert.

..it was lisa loeb, for the hard rock live show on vh-1. now, i know you're going, "god, koba- you little fag. i can't believe you ran in the middle of a thunderstorm, got all soaking wet with your girlfriend and friend, just to go sit on some FUCKING GAY show for a FUCKING GAY music channel (that never plays dt), just to listen to CHEESE-SHIT happy ass music, and think about daisies and bimbo girls who think they're brilliant philosophers. koba, you don't deserve to be a ytsejammer, anymore."

    but, consider:

    a) on guitar......dweezil zappa. yes, frank's son. yes, i yelled (very often) things like "inca roads!" or "joe's garage" or "penguins in bondage". he was about 5 feet away from me. he found it funny.

    b) i forget his name, and it pisses me off, but petrucci's gutiar tech, i think his name is mark- i thought it was sean beresford- he was there, too. mind you, he was there as an audience member. i ran into him as we (girlfriend, friend and i) were running through the streets of manhattan in a thunderstorm (did i tell you about the thigh-high puddle i stepped in?). he was like backstage or something, and i spoke to him for a sec, and i made a fool of myself trying to get his name right. cool guy, though.

but anyways, she only did 6 songs (she had to do "stay" over 4 times, which was quite harrowing; sound problems). they did a hilarious cover of an reo speedwagon song which dweezil raped with his guitar. and in between fixing things up, dweezil would play shit like "hot for teacher", various zeppelin tunes, "staying alive", etc.

and considering the cheesiness of her music, i'm not too embarrassed to admit that she wasn't bad at all (now if only the president could admit he got head from monica, but that's another story). it lacks the intricacies of more daring genres of music most of us appreciate here, but nevertheless, well- written stuff, which dweezil colored nicely.

moral of the story- if you see someone on the vh1 hard rock live show (i think they said in july) on the left side (looking to the stage), wearing a fii tour shirt and a black mets cap, looking very soaked, i'll know i've reached stardom.

    wild koba

    ps- al@isd.net: thanks, man.

it will be better if you add to the band the following members:

Shredder Spice (also known as speedy spice or John petrucci) Animal Spice (also know as crazy spice or Mike Portnoy) Silent Spice (also known as John Myung) Versace Spice (also known as Derek S.)

so it will be a total of 9 instead of 4 (im including james from the last post of course), then it will be great if the 4 girls were kicked out of the band and then the guys rename the band as spice theater or better yet dream theater.

Now, before I say this, let it be known that I am a fan of Big Wreck, own their album, and have seen them live three times, once not with Dream Theater even. But this gobbet in a Columbia house insert caught my eye:

"Big Wreck - In Loving Memory Of... On their debut outing, this quartet of grads from Boston's Berklee College of Music have crafted an epic set of alternative prog-rock anthems."

"Alternative prog-rock"? An intriguing concept. Joins the ranks of similar concepts "black light", "jumbo shrimp", and "shortie hoagie".

Hm, I think too that LaBrie is a good singer. The point that I want to comment on is, if it is so important to sing high? I mean, there are so many Metal bands where the singers sing with those high voices and this really gets on my nerves. I don't like that high singing too much. Maybe that's another reason why I like FII so much. He doesn't sing that high very often anymore and I think that's really better. I see no reason for singers to sing that high that one could think they have no balls anymore... :)) And LaBrie sounds VERY good in the lower regions too IMHO. :)

    Thanks, - Joe DeAngelo<

Well I personally am a huge Iced Earth fan. First I would suggest going to their official page and checking out some of the songs at icedearth.com. Dark Saga is a really cool album, it is based on the Spawn comic pretty much. I think it is pretty loosely based myself, but hey I am just a comic nerd so never mind me. I would suggest you pick up the one you can find, and if you get the chance to pick get either Purgatory or Burnt Offerings, but any of them are great. The older stuff is rougher though, so watch out.
