    Hi,

I've just heard that Rudess/Morgenstein Project will tour the UK in
    April with Dream Theater.

Does anyone have their album, is it worth buying, and do you know if
it is released in the UK?

    Thanks,

Yeah, I try that, but then it screws with my other fingering. I have pretty
short fingers, so they don't reach around real well.

    Hi jammers,
Did anyone see in the Feb. Issue of Guitar, DT mentioned about 25,000
    times?
Not only did it have the tab for Burning My Soul, but it also had JP's top
10 favourite CDs (my friend said 'yeah!' to 'Master of Puppets' and my dad
said 'yeah!' to 'Fragile' and 'Led Zeppelin IV').
In the Guitar Reader's Choice Awards:
Best Band: 1st - Dream Theater, 2nd - Metallica (IMO who suck ever since
    Load), 3rd - Pantera.
Best Rock Guitarist: 1st - Dimebag Darrell (Pantera), 2nd - OUR John
    Petrucci, 3rd - Joe Satriani.
Best Guitar Album: 1st - G3 Live in Concert (my friend would agree with
this), 2nd - Falling Into Infinity (yeah!!), 3rd - ReLoad (oh please).

OK... I think the gig was pretty much like the few previous gigs in Europe,
with one exception I think. James did an accapella version of some
Supertramp song.. dunno what, cuz I relly don't know much about that band.
The lyrics had something to do with lovers, ocean and boats :)

other than that, the gig was of course FRIGGIN' AWESOME, some other jammers
will prolly post a better review thatn me, so I'll just leave it there.

P.S. If some of you guys saw a guy running to Portnoy and talking a bit
with him when he was walking past the line when we were waiting to get in,
    that guy was me :)

I don't wanna start this thread, so I'm not gonna jump in and defend Damon,
even tho I think he is mostly right. I will, however, offer up my
experience on the issue. I've read a great many interviews and such with
"famous" "musicians" in "bands" and I noticed a pattern over the years.

Guitarist: "Well, I picked up the guitar three years ago, taught myself
using the "teach yourself Heavy Metal Guitar in 21 Days" book, and look at
me now, I'm famous and rich. I don't know what a major scale is, but I get
laid by a diefferent woman evry night! Isn't it great!?"

Keyboardist (if they have one): "Well, I've been playing since I was 3
years old. I've taken private lessons since then. I was winning state
championships in classical piano by age 15. Now, Not only do I not get to
write any of the lyrics or music, the band makes me play nothing but pads,
I don't even appear in the band photo, I get an "also featuring" credit
instead of being listed as a full member, and when we tour, I get to play
off-stage so no one sees me! Isn't it great!?"

Now, this is a lot of why I got into prog. Keyboardists have NO respect in
the mainstream rock/heavy music world. I went out and bought I&W the first
time I heard PMU on the radio because it was the first metal song I'd ever
heard that didn't have the keys turned down so low that you could barely
hear them, and Kev was actually playing something INTERESTING.

Yes, I'm a bitter keyboardist, and so is Damon. Anyone who says that they
are a rock guitarist immediately has "cool" stamped in the minds of random
strangers whom they meet. A rock keyboardist immediately has the word
    "geek" stamped in.

Luckily, I've found a group of people (well, helped to form a group of
people) who want to do heavy, slightly proggy, cool music that have
prominent keyboards, so I'm happy with that, but it is a tough world out
there for us Tinklers of Ivory.

Rant off. I now return you to your regularly scheduled BafuJam.

C'mon, Chris, you know you just wanted an EOJ. And got it. Geez, even you
    Ackers want those EOJs....:)

On an unrelated note, how quickly does the Laser's Edge send stuff out
usually? I placed a 6-disc order with 'em what seems like two-three weeks
ago and haven't seen or heard anything. Of course, I *could* just call Ken
Golden and ask him what's up, but I'd rather not bother him if someone
here tells me that two-three weeks is normal.

On the semi-recent debate of TAMP:
I would have to agree that the Demo version of TAMP is much better
than the FII version. It seems much more full of emotion and more
powerful, not to mention longer with the additional verse. It has been
playing in my stereo and in my head for about a week now since my
grandfather passed away on Sunday. It's been somewhat of a comfort.

I have know seen the greatest band on earth live.I could now die as a
    happy man. :-)
Vanden Plas was the opening band.I liked them.Especially the drummer
    he was very creative.
      But on to DT!What could I say?Phenomenal?MInd Blowing?Definitely!!!
They started with Lines in the sand.I was air drumming during the whole
song and Mike noticed it and pointed at me(more on that later).:-) Next
was Burning my soul.My neck still hurts from moshing.Voices
followed.Absolutely...FUCKING GREAT!I canīt remember the exact order of
the following songs. But they played:Peruvian skies, Hollow Years(with
Mike on the little four piece kit)New Millenium, Pull me under, Puppies
on Acid, Lie,Ytsejam with fasten your seatbelts and
drumsolo.Metropolis/LtL/?/fortune in lies, Darkest of winters, Carpe
    Diem(I think), JLMB
During the drumsolo I experienced the climax of my musical career.I
got to play a tom with Mike Portnoy.I guess that air-drumming payed off!
:-) And whatīs more, Mike was impressed about my playing!(to finnish
jammers,I was the second guy who played, not the first one.)I got to
keep the sticks and later got him to sign one of them.Derek and John P.
Did their usual soloīs, and James sang one song with only him in the
stage. He said it was his solo singing debute.I canīt remember the song
    title.
Iīm sure they played other songs that I mentioned but I canīt remember
    them.
After the show we hanged outside their tourbus and waited for the guys
to show up.They came one by one.First came Derek. He said(an exact
quote):you Finns are a bunch of crazy motherfuckers! :-)He started to
laugh when someone asked him:Is mr.PornToy coming out soon?
Next came James. He was very kind but obviously tired. Then came John M.
That day he was definitely the silent man.Very kind and modest.
We had to wait atleast half an hour before Portnoy and Petrucci came
out.I thanked Portnoy for letting me play the tom with him.He said that
I played good and signed his signature and wrote: good job!-above his
signature. :-) Didnīt get to chat with Petrucci because he was already
on his way to the tourbus when I tapped on his shoulder and asked him to
    sign my album cover.
Overall, this has been one of the best experiences in my life.I met
only one jammer there while I was waiting outside to get in to the
place.didnīt get your name, sorry. You were a cool guy to chat with.

    -Vilzu-

P.S.Someone mentioned that Vanden Plas played Super Mario Bros. in their
tourbus. That must be their favorite game since they did the same thing
    in here. :-)

    Hello,
Why do I keep reading about setlists for DT's European concerts? In 6
weeks time I'm going to be at one myself and the last thing I want to be

Hey, if you guys have problems with the sound of the Ibanez Universe, I
think I know an alternative that could be pretty cool. I just saw that
Alembic makes a baritone guitar, which is strung B to B instead of E to E.
The guitar has a 28 inch scale, which should make those lows much more
powerful, and it should sound like a REAL baritone guitar. I have no idea
what stores carry those guitars though - our local stores sell Alembic stuff
but they don't have the guitars. If I hadn't switched over to bass, I would
DEFINITELY check one of these out. If one of you ever makes it big, you
could order a 2-neck guitar with one neck being baritone and the other
standard tuning. Now that would rock :-)

I am pleased with the sound of my 7-string. I think the chucky neck and the
bigger body compensate a bit for the "flat" response pickups, adding some
warmth and wood tone to the sound. It definitely sounds more "organic" to my
ears than most Ibanez 6-strings, especially the ones with the real thin
necks (those sound almost like plastic with pickups to me). One thing that
might change the sound of mine is that I got it already pretty beaten up,
with some parts where the painting is gone and the wood is showing. I should
probably take the whole painting off and put some lacquer finish to see if
    it sweetens the sound further...

Does anybody here own one of those new Marshall JCM 2000 amps? I'm really
curious as to how those sound...

    Later!

    Christian.

Ah c'mone ya pussy! I think I have the smallest fingers in the world
(heck, half the chicks I meet have bigger hands than I do) 'n I can barre
just fine 'n dandy. >:) Get some blood circulatin' in those digits 'n
stretch, then try playing. Do like Petrucci does. Massaaaaage. It
    really does work wonders.

      1. Do you really think Dream Theater has this little to say about
what goes on with their work ? It's always easy to blame the
producer, rather than to face up to the fact that your favourite
band just made some musical decisions you don't agree with.

      2. Dream Theater seems very happy with Kevin Shirley's work on FII.
Just check out some interviews. Not one bad word about Kevin in
any of them. David Prater on the other hand...

      3. They let Kevin Shirley mix "Liquid Tension Experiment" too.
That should tell you something, shouldn't it ?

    > And how could they leave songs like STM, TWiUTB, and CME???

Well, after 78:18 minutes they kinda ran out of space on the CD.

      Shit happens. :-)

    > I think STM is one of the best songs out of the FII sessions.

      Didn't do much for me.
