What are you talking about? Everytme I turn on krock, I hear that new
ozzie tune that I just don't like. The one that starts out with the crappy
sounding keys. I could do a better keyboard part to that, at least if
you're going to use those chords, get a better sound. Man, I don't know
about Ozzie lately, his greatest hits CD , which I got for xmas, is preety
lousy imho. I used to have all hs albums up through his double live tape
that siad he was going to retire, and lost all my tapes, and haven't
followed since, but I am just really disappointed. KROCK needs to play
different music. Occassionally, I hear Rush, but it's limelight or Tom
Sawyer. And it's so rare, that it isn't even worth mentioning. If anybody
can pull thisstation in, try either 95.9, WRAT, if you live in South
Central Jersey, or 105.5 WDHA, which you can check out in realaudio on the
web at www.wdhafm.com, I think. They have played ynm a few times and sing
    the praises of DT.

    Hey,

It's good to see people talking about tendonitus. Playing guitar/bass/whatever isn't all fun and games. It's funny, I'm 22 now (23 this month) and I look back and how stupid I was. I've been playing bass since I was 13 and by the time I was 17, I could play any maiden song I wanted. That sounds great and all and believe me, I was quite aware of that fact, however, I went the wrong way about it.

A few of you have pointed this out before, going the wrong way about playing songs or your techniques or your practice time. I went 8 hours a day for about a year and a half straight. The 8 hours were broken up to accomodate for food, or homework etc...but I made it a point to always do that...that and I had no life at the time :) My biggest mistake, (bass players take note of this) was in my right hand work. I approached the strings from an angle, so my wrist would bend (at about 45 degrees or so, depends really) and I would play like that. You can imagine the strain on the wrist, so, I eventually developed tendonitus. I'm paying for it now but a wrist brace helps big time, same with doing the excercises (if anyone wants to know them, email me)

Playing a flashy style and so forth is great, I mean, it's what captures most peoples attention but don't do it if its going to threaten yourself. Someone pointed out, if it hurts stop (whoever said that, you shoulda been around me years ago).

Anyways, I wonder if JP, MP, or anyone else in the band, except for JLB has had these problems. You'd think they would of have their run-ins with this a few times.

Take care of yer bodies kiddies :)

Thanks for posting this... I at times was on the verge of believing that we were discussing which technique was more like "politically correct"... :-)

The more interesting question is which are the drawbacks of a technique that at first sight seems so incomparably more *elegant*. Same still applies for "raking" on bass 'acourse. Funny thing, btw, is that this is roughly equivalent to how to go when bowing (an upright, a cello, whatever). What you do is what you get. No cheating possible. :-)

In another context you mentioned mental problems... I think this might be a clue, though I not too convinced yet that "simply practising enough" will help to overcome the physiological default that it is easier to control two movements of shorter duration than one of a slightly (as it's meant to provide greater speed) longer duration.

A different issue, though, is whether people just liked the specific articulation better. That was more of a matter of taste then. Or, in the ideal world one employed both techniques w/out ever getting confused. :-)

Another problem that had been raised was how deep to dig in... I personally stubbornly prefer to dig in quite a lot (resp. vary for a wider dynamic range's sake) just b/c I like the sound better (you betcha the setup of my "tools" is accordingly...). I've had endless senseless merely ideological (yeah!!) debates on this way back at school b/c everyone else recommended to play as light as a feather w/ only minimal movements. Though I agree on the fact that one should play w/ the wrist instead of the arm, alone for health reasons, but it also doesn't give you more speed or more strength. If the latter is your problem rather try Wiener Schnitzel and Loewenbraeu. :-)

    Cheers,

    Heike

Actually this raises some questions and things I've been meaning to ask some of the guitar pros out there. I'm like no way near a pro, so I've got some important questions. Feel free to e-mail me privately on this, since it's NDTC.

First off: my set-up is.... Ibanez American Master (custom RG...essentially a JPM without the Picasso) from 91 or so, Peavey KB100 amp (keyboard amp, yes, I know), Boss Metal Zone pedal, <DEAD> Crybaby wah pedal

Well, I HATE my Floyd Rose bridge. Basically, the bridge was set up poorly, and now it's pretty dead. I am planning on getting either a new floating FR or maybe something else...I do use the trem occasionally, and I'd still like one, but FR's are such a pain in the ass.... Anyone have any suggestions?

This summer my plans are to work with someone to build a cabinet (hee hee...I have connections with professional audio system builders). I'm going to be putting a nice head in with an effects processor and a shit ton of speakers. Now...I'm really stupid, but I know I'm going to need a footswitch for this crap, but I have no clue how they work with the effects processor and stuff. Aside from that, anyone have any suggestions for amp/processor brands?

The wah...yeah...my crybaby died...it crackles. Anyway, I was thinking of getting an optical wah...what are people's favored wah pedals? (I'm looking for one that allows volume/wah, probably)

Well, I guess that's my long-winded list of DUH questions. Remember I'm a chick guitarist who has taught herself, so no one talks to me about guitars....

Thanks in advance to any kind soul who takes it into his (or her) heart to bitchslap me out of ignorance.
