No way. You have to play at least two different lines at the same time.
In complicated pieces, the two hands can do really different things from
    each other.
Of course you are right that you only need to hit a key. I think people
could easily learn themselve to play with only one hand.

Okay, I'll jump on it too. I have:

An Ibanez "EX Series," which I'm told is a model from around 1994. It's run
through a Radio Shack 1/8" to 1/4" adapter, an RCA cable, and into the
auxilliary input of a 1997 Sharp Dolby Surround Sound Minisystem. I believe
    it's a total of 150 watts, but I don't recall off hand.

    How's that for a rig! :-)

Before I started taking piano classes here at the good ol' U of M (don't
get impressed, I suck), I taught myself rudimentary fingering and such on
my sister's cheap Casio keyboard. I actually wrote quite a few of the basic
melody lines that my "band" uses on that thing. I purposefully started by
drilling myself on the left hand, which definitely helped me, but I have no
coordination so it's still difficult to play anything where the two hands
    are doing something substantiall different.

The Wheelies are great, if you like their first album you should really
check out Magnolia it is incredible. And if you like them you should try
to find a band called Renegade Saints, they are a band from Oregon who put
our one CD then broke up but the songs are incredible. They sound a little
bit like Phish on some songs but with a much rootsier feel

Does Jason Bieler's solo album sound like the last 2 kick albums...i was
looking at getting it but I was afraid that he may have gone experimental
    on me.(not that that's a bad thing)

Well, I also got this in the mail (Thank you, Matt G!) yesterday. I've
listened to it about 3 times so far, and I like it a lot. It has a lot of
interesting, humorous, and wacky musical elements.

My favorite part of the CD is definitely the last "song," "Three Minute
Warning," but there are a lot of great things before that particular set of
    tracks.

Once again, I really think I should give up guitar...John Petrucci is
God. (The "self-indulging" wanking by JP just makes me want to kill myself
    it's so awesome!)

I haven't been reading my jams (shoot me! I have rehearsals every day
and night!), so I dunno what's been going on. I see that someone has
already reviewed LTE, so I decided not to go into too much detail. ;p

Don't forget to visit my web site every week for my new mp3 of the week!
;) I will put some LTE up there next week maybe....

            Take care, everyone!

I am finally going to take a trip out to Los Angeles after many, many years of
talking about it. I was just wondering if there is still a happening music
scene out there like there was in the 80's. Are any of the famous clubs still
open? Is the Sunset Strip still a cool place to hang out at night?

Just wondering. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks - Chung in NYC

It works well with 3-note per string scales. I can definitely play scale
excersizes a lot faster with economy picking, but if you're soloing, you
really have to think about whether to start with an upstroke or downstroke.

If you want to see a master of economy picking, check out Frank Gambale. I
started doing it after watching his instructional video.

    DT in Malmo, Sweden

]From who ? Bloke who is just as much into DT as into big beats,
    like Norman Cooke. Enough shite....

The whole thing got off with Vanden Plaas. Kinda cool, pity you couldn't
hear any keyboards, neither any vocals, from where we were standing,
thought. The percussionist was looking absolutely insane and you didn't
quite know what to think of him. Anyway, they were rocking, but noone
bugged out, except for a couple of poncers with long, curly hair, in the
front row, who, as expected, went totally nuts.

Then, after a long wait, it was DT-time...

I can only say: "You really got me there guys...". My friends had told me
that it was supposed to start off with Derek playing Bach (or whatever) all
by himself in pitch-black, and then the others were going to join in at the
same time, playing New Millenium (or something...)...

    Nothing could've been more wrong...

Suddenly, as I stood there chatting with a couple of geezers, all the
lights went out. A couple of secs later, the five of bandmembers of DT
almost ran onto stage. "What the fuck's this ?" was the big q in my head.
And that was it. "Oh, my gawd..." were the words on most lips.

They played for... to tell you the truth, I have no idea. I lost track of
time and space the same time they started off by playing Take the Time. It
was absolutely fabulous. If you ask me, the show went flawless.

Best of all, afterwards, we got to meet THE band... Well, almost THE
band... Everybody except Petrucci. It was freezing, and I doubt some of my
fellow fans will ever recover... It was hard saying anything but things
like "...oh shite...", "this aint happenin'...", "oh jesus, here comes
James...". One of my (male) friends hugged Myung. Utterly cool. Same friend
told James "Say, that's a nice handwriting....". James replyed: "It's
quick....". That one had me lmao.

Anyway, I got my poster signed and shook hands with the four of them. Most
excellent... Still I wonder, where did Petrucci go ?

ps. Vanden Plaas played Super Mario Bros 1 in their tour-bus...

A few days ago, I asked Derek Sherinian if he'd like to participate
in a "Ytsejam Interview". Basically I'll collect questions from you
guys and mail them to Derek so he can answer them. After that, I'll
post them on "Under A Cyber Moon". Cool enough ?

If you have any questions for the "Ytsejam Interview", please email
them to me (itchy@dreamt.org) with the subject "Question for Derek"
or something like that. Please be brief and don't forget to mention
your real name for the interview.

I can't guarantee that all questions will be answered, but Derek is
a cool guy... I'm sure he'll try to answer as many as possible. :-)

I have no idea how many questions to expect, so there's no deadline
for now. I will post a message when I've got enough questions, ok ?
I'll post a notification after I've added the interview to "Under A
Cyber Moon", but don't let that stop you from checking the site out
between now and then. Remember, daily updates. ;-)

    to join go to:
    http://games-espn.sportszone.com/flb/promo/

buy a team then join a group with:
    groupname: Ytsejam Fantasy Baseball
    password: majesty

It is a one time fee of $30 to play (its less if you are an espn
subscriber, or do Fantasy honey or basketball). After that all roster
moves, waivers, free agents, trades dont cost anything extra. Everything
    is automated.

a few of us did it last year so don't miss your chance. I think there is
a 10 team limit for the league so join up soon. The draft is March 28.

    any questions, email me.

I want it. I need it. I have to have it. I will rob and steal for it. I
will drive cars to get it. I will rip out my eyes to have it, (hell,
they're useless anyway.) So, what do you all say. when is this thing
coming out? I say everybody go to their record stores on the release day
and demand to have it. If you can't find the money to buy it, charge it.
Write a check. Kill somebody in line to have it. make a CD-r of it. Do
whatever it takes to get it. I need to go now.

I'll play for money. Enquire if interested.
