This is going a bit too far, don't you think?. You've got to listen
to something before you just start putting it down.

You must think very little of classical musicians. They spend their
whole lives aspiring to rip people off. :) Or jazz musicians... in
fact, DT ripped off Floyd, Rush, Zep, etc... by your logic. Think
about it, dude.

Yo, Matt
Why dont you get the album before you start slamming Yngwie. He is a very
creative musician. If you want to showcase someone's lack of talent or
creativity, just turn on the radio.

Any chance anyone out there is a Lillian Axe fan? I've been going crazy
trying to find the artists who did a song called "Misery Loves Company"
back in the mid-80s and finally noticed the other day that their debut had
a song by the right name. If anyone just happens to have their debut,
write me! I'd like to see if I've finally found this song...

Peace to you and yours ;>

Meshuggah is probably the band of which you speak.

They are Swedish. Thrash/insane/prog. Very intense, and crazy stuff
going on in their music. "Destroy Erase Improve" is a great CD to get...

They are called "Messugah" and they are kind of a death/black
progressive metal...I haven't heard them but they have been reccomended
to me by several people....

Also try Dark Tranquillity or Arcturus (first album!) for more of that
sort of stuff...

Do cover tunes GET any more guitar-oriented than this? Ali Abbas, are there
any tapes of your band playing live? :)

The subject: line is also what I shouted when I realized how many
collaborative efforts are spawning in the world of complex progressive
neoclassical hardasconcrete fast thundering nightmarish deadly
hellfireandbrimstone metal. We might as well start a betting pool as to which
guitarist will do an album with which drummer and bassist and keyboardist and
vocalist and triangle player. Perhaps Mike Portnoy will get together with
Dennis Chambers and Mark Zonder and Terry Bozzio and Dave Weckl and record
"The Quintessential Drum?" Or Steve Vai could go into the studio with John
Petrucci and Jennifer Batten and Blues Saraceno and they could record (in
24-bit mastering) the collective stomping of the Spice Girls. Special guest
Dimebag "I eat fuckin' Spice Girls for fuckin' shit breakfast fucker!" Darrell
on the bonus track "Steeltoe."

BTW Jeff, you left out a Shawn Lane ahhearance on your list: "Fission," the
latest release from the Johanssen brothers.

Holy shit! Take a look at Rudess' .sig! It's a fuckin' monster! It's a
damn good thing DT didn't hire him as their regular keyboardist. I don't
think I could live in a world where a member of MFB (that's "M"y "F"avorite
"B"and, for those who don't know...don't ya just love abbreviations? they
really help eliminate all of that extraneous, completely unnecessary,
typing we all must endure) had THIS little netiquitte.

Well, looking at the pics, James' hair is not as bad (read: short) as I had
feared. But ... sigh, another member gone from the Ytsejam Long Hair
Brotherhood. (Any other old-timers remember the YLHB? Are there any other
members out there?)

And, I must say that Carmina Burana "Rox Nadz" as the saying goes. I just
got back from my forth and final performance of it through the UCSC choir
(I song second tenor) -- And ya know? APSoG reminds me of Carmina, at
least in the "a group separate musical entities that nonetheless comprise a
whole musical piece" sort of way. Listening to APSoG again, I have a new
respect for it, as the classical influences (in terms of structure, not in
terms of Yngwie classical) are more evident to me now.

Dear FINNISH Ytsejammers!

<plug>

This wednesday on my show In i Dimman, i'll have interviews and music
with Dream Theater and Vanden Plas. The channel is Radio eXtrem, the
time is 23-24 and the frequencies are on http://www.yle.fi/extrem

This will be the last time i'll play DT and VP for some time, as i've
played a LOT of that (especially Dream Theater) lately.

Next big thing is a series on Genesis, cumulating with a Genesis-show
the first of April.

Hi Adam,
my name is Choon-Kang. I'll be at the show in Munich too, I'm from
Switzerland.
I have been taking pictures at 3/4ths of the DT shows I've attended.
In Germany it's officially forbidden to take pics. I you manage to smuggle
in your camera at the door-security who usually also perform a body
search, than it depends on the security in front of the stage. Either they
let you, or not, or you stay in third or fourth row and sneak some
pictures, but officially, it's hardly possible, to get an official pass,
except you are working for a magazin???

Paul,
I have heard of Mishugga ( I'm not sure of the spelling). There are very heavy
and use alot of really complex rhythms. I went to school with a guy who is
related to them ( a cousin). I only heard a little bit of the CD once. If you
are into Pantera or Death you will dig these guys. Don't know of any websites
