If Yngwie is re-hashing old melodies and sounding like Mozart or Bach, I
think that says something extremely negative for his creativity. I could
write a concerto like bach or mozart because I already know what they
sound like. It was incredible that those two composers came up with what
they did because it was original. Yngwie copying them is like me ripping
Yngwie or JP off solow for solow blatently in the work I do. Am I alone
    in this? Wellness.

Actually, I heard that Vai's ditching this next stateside G3 tour to cut

    Hey!

I had an awesome day today. For starters, I figured out the main
cool solo from Batten's Whammy Damage (the stuff you can play without
the Whammy Pedal)... which turns out to be all minor 7th and altered
dominant arpeggios, in 3 octave groupings. I made some huge headway
in redefining my picking (to go completely from the wrist... studying
the simple motion DiMeola makes and that of Petrucci as guides.
Then me and my GF left to go run some errands... we hit Impulse
Music... and holy shit was I amazed... this was the most plentiful
stock I have EVER seen there. They have _90_ copies of the new
Symphony X album ON THE SHELVES! They had LTE, the new Yngwie with
the symphony orchestra, the new Impelliteri and the new Helloween...
the Shawn Lane with Mike Stern and the Johannsen Bros...
UNBELIEVEABLE! So I got the new SX, and talked them into selling me
a copy of LTE early.... what a haul!
The new Symphony X cd is AS GOOD as anything they've done, to say
the least. The solos are the best I've heard from Romeo, and the
music is just all killer... I won't bother describing it... if you
liked the last 2 SX albums, you're in heaven. If you don't, well
then, I just don't understand you. They've managed to put out 4
albums in this vein now, without sounding tired out and repetitive.
The 3 part epci on this album is not as neoclassical as I expected...
it reminds me of DT... sort of an ACoS vibe, but not the same kind of
sound.... this album showcases the keyboardist, bigtime. And the new
    drummer is NOT a disappointment!
LTE is everything you've heard it is. :)
The final bounty for the day is my new "Gina" card... it's a digital
audio interface for the PC that allows for good sound quality when
recording via Cakewalk or Cubase (I also got Cubase from a buddy...
the top of the line version... knowing dealers has its priviledges!).
That means if I can fix my guitar tone, I can record finally. More
importantly, it may provide an awesome option for you musicians who
hate recording through your sound card, and would rather pay $300 and
have a 32+ track digital recording system than a Tascam Porta 03. :)

Well... off to learn some LTE!

    Hello jammers,

I received some pictures from Choon-Kang of the DT concert in Lyon.
She already alert you about JL and MP different hair cuts.
I put them on the web with a few other ones. These ones are from
    there European concert last year.

    http://www.euronet.nl/users/ouden

Oh yes, she put some comments with the pictures.
Don't flame me about it !!! I don't care that much how they look.
But the pics are nice.... :>)

    Comments Choon-Kang,

    Hi there,

Here are the promised pics. They have been taken by myself on
February 20th ,98 in Lyon, France. As you can see ,James has Clearly
turned into a David Hasselhof-look-alike. Maybe it is got to do
with his spare time? Being a father of two now and hair-care......
Looks like James got the same problem.
It's more difficult to find a pic of Mike. His hair is not all blond.
He's got the tips dyed, blond streaks. It does look quite changed
under bright neon light but not in concert. Look closely.

    Cheers,

    Choon-Kang, choonkang@the.site.ch

    Hi everybody,
there's not *that* much to say about yesterday's show in Hannover. It was a
pretty 'normal' DT show, which means of course that it was absolutely great.
    :-)
It seemed to feature the same stuff as the show in Helsinki which was
described in detail in digest 3619, but James unfortunately didn't do any a-
capella singing. They played the setlist which started with LitS and ended
with NM (plus the encore medley), so there were no surprises like ToT or AL.
My personal favourites were Lie (which was just *deadly*) and The Ytse Jam.
The part of the show where Mike let some members of the audience play on that
drum was hugely entertaining and got a great response from the crowd. This
drumstick throwing between Mike, Derek and one roadie seems to slowly develop
into some kind of sport which was also pretty funny. I also noticed that James
left the stage during the instrumental parts not as often as he used to on
previous tours, and John Myung was also more active than before. I mean, his
fingers have always been *extremely* active, but he actually moved around a
    bit this time...
Derek's solo was pretty noisy (but cool) and John Petrucci's solo was pretty
    fast (and also cool). Wow...
So apart from the fact that it was a fucking nightmare to find that damn venue
and I almost crashed our car on the way, I had a really good time, but I hope
that they'll play some at least slightly different setlists at the shows in
Duesseldorf and Muenster. I'm spoilt, I know...

    Take Care,
    Andreas Berger

    Hello Jammers!

I`m going to DT show in Munich Germany on 10th. I saw them
in in Nov last year in Milan and the show was amazing. The
only thing that disappointed me a bit was the stage. The
lightshow and the stage setup were very modest. Not that I
mind much, cause music was outstanding. The concert in Milan
was a part of european "pre-tour", there were only a few shows,
so that might be the reason. I`m pretty sure many of you
have seen shows from this years tour. Could you please tell
me if the lightshow and stage setup is anything like the one
from Live In Tokio video. Is there a setlist of songs that
they play usually on this tour?

Every response will be most aprecciated!!

You're not the only ones who bought a Memphis for their first electric
guitar. I have a Memphis Stratocaster copy that I bought w/amp for
about $270 last summer. It's a fairly good beginner guitar, I must
say, but its clean tone is one of the worst I've ever heard. I'm not
sure whether this is the fault of the pickups, the fretboard, the
frets, or myself. On mine, the G string seems to go out of tune
fairly easily, but that's probably just the string. It does have a
fairly good distorted tone, especially in the lower octaves. All in
     all, not a bad guitar.

Well, I was just checking Music Blvd (www.musicblvd.com) and they have
a Japanese single listed as being released 2/26/98, which is like the
German one + BMS & AH/KH live ($19.49), but they also have one listed
for release on 3/17/98 with no other info about it. Anyone have any
    dea what this one is?

Thank you very much for the information, Jacob.

BTW, since you mentioned Metal Church, I remember someone two or three years ago that told me that Metal Church's lyrics made Hetfield's lyrics from "Master of Puppets" seem like child tales.

Do any of you people have any comments on Metal Church lyrics (or their music, for that matter -- I only know their name :-) ).

Looking at the set list for Kevin Moore's Dead Air for Radios, I'm rather disappointed that alot of the songs have been axed, so to speak. The only one I noticed was Even the Waves (great song) that carried over. Did he change any of the title of the older songs or is this the only one left? And on that note, does anyone have the MMtbH demoes on CD? And if so let me know if there is any way I could arrange a trade or something for a CD copy? I've got the cassette copy, but I've worn it out twice. heheh. If so, let me know.
