Hmm...I guess I'm still the youngest jammer I know (14)...when I
mentioned DT, Fates Warning and Savatage to my friends they got
quite confused...they thought I was just making up names ;)
It's still better in the US than in Europe though (I'm Hungarian,
living in America right now but going back in June)...at least most
people still like *bands* that have people playing *instruments* (not
dissing Europeans, but probably the only instrument-playing band that
my friends there know are probably Metallica). I guess the general
crowd of teenagers in Europe are mostly into techno (if anything).

Ahoy,
It's time once again to set a date for the third Houston
Ytsenight. Last time was a pretty good turnout, and this time should be
better still. So far, I was looking at the latter half of June on a Friday
or Saturday night. As always, we will go meet, eat, and hang out for way too
long at a designated restaurant and then do whatever afterwards.
The last two times we went to Texadelphia off of Westheimer, so
methinks it's time for a new location. I'm thinking that the Hard Rock Cafe
would be a good spot, but since I don't live downtown, if any of you have
some better recommendations feel free to put them forth (since getting ten
or twelve people seated in Hard Rock on a weekend night will take some time
unless there is a reservation - but we could certainly do that).
I still have all of the email addresses of previous attendees,
so anyone who hasn't come before - please drop me a note and I will add you
to the list. Also, after May 13, I will no longer be at this address as I
will be going home for the summer. I'll send out the new one when I get it
though.
That's all for now... there's still plenty of time left, so
we'll get a date set in the coming couple of weeks. Hope to see you there!

Not going to happen, according to MP. The band had a choice between Daytona's
and Jaxx for May 5th, and Jaxx was the smallest venue that they played on the
last U.S. leg, so they wanted to try someplace different. Evidently, the
schedule for the rest of the year will not allow add-on dates, and they are
going right back to recording when the DP/ELP gig is done. But, it's almost a
given that Daytona's will NOT happen again(He admitted that he wished it had
been Jaxx again). Oh well, "Liiiiving........Learrrrrning"
Yes, I was excited to meet the guys. I asked these specific questions. Sorry
for the name dropping. I'm done.

Ok, um by samples they dont mean the same kind as in dt. For example..
the
samples theyre talking about is using the lets say "riff" of an old song
to
construct a new one, In vanilla ice you can find it in play that funky
music..and i bet that on lots of other songs..but i think the most
famous
example is Mc hammers song...you cant touch this.. the wqhole background
song
was Rick James' Superfly ( some 70's funk song) and they sund exactly
the
same..exccept for hammer singing... also hammer had a song called pray..
which
sampled Prince;s when the doves cry in the same way..
The Rick James song is "Superfreak", not "Superfly" and another sample
of Vanilla Ice's that I'm surprised you overlooked is "Ice Ice Baby".
The bass line is Queen's "Under Pressure".

I'm a fairly young jammer, myself. I'm 19 and have been into OFB since I
was 14 or 15 (freshman year of HS). Now that I'm in college, I listen to a
lot of different kinds of music, like Dave Matthews, Rusted Root, Brian
Setzer, Superstar DJ Keoki, The Tea Party, and of course, DT. Even at
times when I havent been too enthused with heavy, loud music, I have always
loved DT. Their music and lyrics have touched me in very personal ways;
their music has been there for me when nothing else has. DT has pulled out
emotions from me that I would have had trouble expressing otherwise. DT
has had a huge impact on my life emotionally, as well as musically, moreso
than any other band, and that is why they have remained my favorite band.
