Hello everyone,
Hope you all had a nice summer! Anyway, I just thought I'd try yet again
to advertise my local Rock band STORMWATCH as I love 'em to death and I try
to do my part. Anyway, as my latest sig says you can get wavs directly from
me and ONLY from me. They don't have a website and neither does their
label. Anyway, they're pretty large in size (Max. 1.3Meg) so e-mail if
you're interested.
I'd also like to congratulate everyone who's got Ytseradio into fruition.
Before I left for the summer there was no such thing and I get back and
look what I find!?! Great job everyone!!!
And finally, DT have covered a few bands in their time on various things
but does anyone know of any bands covering DT songs??? Surely there must be
some out there?? I personally think it'd be great to hear some DT done by
other bands.
Anyway, just something to ponder over....

RealiSe is probably the English way of spelling it, since I've been English
all my life (?) I suppose I should know that bit. If you consider how many
people subscribe to the 'Jam and the number of nationalities involved then
there's a few different variations on words...centre and center, metre and
meter etc etc.
Maybe the original poster is British?

Speaking of YtseRadio... the website has moved to a url that should be a
little easier to remember.

Joe Kruger <jkruger@ee.net> wrote this very long and well thought out message about FII, I'll just respond to a portion of it:
> The second thing I notice as I open the CD case and put it into my > player is that I have this feeling that I don't really want to listen > to it. I feel like there is so much more music on the shelves that is > just so much better than this that I question my reasons for forcing > this onto myself.
I have to agree here. But I must admit that I was never one of those who jumped up and down about how FII is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It just isn't getting the play time that I&W and Awake has over the years.
But another measure of how much I like a recording is to answer the question "would I buy it again"? For this question, I've gone around a few times, but it boils down to this: If DT had a CD single with just Hells Kitchen/Lines in the Sand, I would buy it. If it had bonus tracks called New Millinium and Trial of Tears, it would be a great bonus. If they offered to add several more songs that were written more with the mass listening audience in mind, I would still pick it up, even though they don't give me goosebumps and I might skip them more often then not.
So I'd buy it all over again, although I might pop it in the old CD player more often if it only had my 4 favorite songs on it....

Well folks.. if you haven't heard by now, YtseCon '99 is going to be happening this spring. I've started getting all the affairs in order for this to happening. Just a few tidbits of information for ya. I've set up a mailing list for the gathering to keep everyone informed, updated, and to discuss possible changes and additions in events I've already recieved multiples e-mails regarding the place. The place is Columbus, OH. The date for this is still unset. I want as many people to be able to attend as possible, so I'm leaving it up to everyone else. When we can get a mojority agreement, that'll be the date. I do need help in pulling this off, ideas and suggestions. I can't do this alone. This is a "fans" convention. Not MINE. So to join the Ytsecon 99 mailing list: Send mail to lists@listservant.com In the body of the message,(don't put any spaces or anything or else this won't work)
subscribe YtseCon <yourname>
That's it.. all their is to it. Have fun and pleasant dreams
-AA (Co-Conspirator)
BTW: I also need to address one more thing. Don't e-mail me asking if your band can open for them..the answers "NO!" :)

And yes, I am well aware that my post isn't grammatically correct. But, I'm not complaining about voting.

I hate to break it to you, but "realise" is the Brit-spelling of "realize." We see this in a lot of other places: civilisation, realisation, etc. The Brits use a lot of s where Americans use z. Just brush up on your Britishisms and you'll be fine.
Hey, I now seem to spell labor "labour" and rumor "rumour" a lot! That's another Britishism. Then there's theater "theatre" and center "centre." Now, there the Americanisms seem to make more sense, don't they? I guess that construction comes from French originally.
You gotta love Noah Webster!

As far as picking a song of the millennium goes, in my mind, it just could not be a rock song, I mean we're talking about a span of 1000 years and rock has only been around for less than a tenth of that time. I think you'd have to look at a song and ask yourself, "If this song never existed, would the state of music as we know it be totally different today?" As far as picking a song, I don't know where to start, but some musicians that pop to mind are Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Tchiakovsky...and then on the other side of the spectrum, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, etc. I would think it would have to be a jazz or classical artist.
And if any of you bastards try saying some DT song belongs here, I will flame you heavily. I mean they're my favorite band too, but that's just being real selfish!

jeez, i have a feeling whoever picked the name "song of the millenium" wasn't being very philosophical at the time, he/she was probly just trying to think a flashy way to say "everyone vote for their favorite song". moo.

Kalodner, for those who don't know, was responsible for signing and guiding the careers of many bands in the 80's (and continues to do it in the 90's with his own label through Sony Music). John signed so many huge acts, and guided so many to the top that the "John Kalodner: John Kalodner" thing started. I think they basically just meant to say that he was much more than just and A+R cat.

Hey Fellow Jammers:
Since I live in a town of people who don't know rock music very well, let alone prog rock, I need some ideas. My band is working on a cover set list (the local bars will not let you play originals), we are all into prog rock but no one else in this city is. So we compromised on putting together a medley of progressive music, to satisfy us, and not to play the full length of the song. I'm just looking for some ideas of great songs that could be easily put into a medley. So far we have some DT stuff picked and older Genesis picked out. Thanks CJ Bass
PS: Rush will not be in the medley since most people have heard of their music.

Hmm... I guess it's up to me to disagree, then. Of course we all agree that they're great players but somehow I'm not in a totally rapturous state. Maybe it's because I bought Tribal Tech by Henderson & Willis at the same time with VTT. To me Tribal Tech feels like a lot more "musically oriented" (translation: I like it better) than Vital Tech Tones. Let's take Wooten in example. He's really flashy and funky etc. but listen to what Willis plays in "Elvis at the Hop". Amazing stuff. Really. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy Vital Tech Tones, but I think it could've been better.
