Howdy,
How's it going? Good? That's nice.
I've been quiet for a couple of months now, so I thought I'd say hi and
comment on a couple of things.
Movies: Paths of Glory. It just does not get better than Kirk Douglas in
France during WWI. Kubrick at his best, definately. Oh, and Broadcast
News kicks major bottom as well, as does Dog Day Afternoon.
Someone (who's name I just can't be bothered remembering) said that
Apocalyptica's "Inquisition Symphony" is being released in the US this
month. Ha! This was released in Australia earlier this year (April or
May, I think, but I can't really remember). I love it when CDs get
released here before the US! Ha!
I'm trying to find a use for all of my Fates Warning CDs (they're just
gathering dust at the moment - I've never really been able to get used to
them) so I've started listening to them ONE AT A TIME, not while I'm on the
computer or any other way which would lead them to become background music.
I started with "Parallels", for no real reason, and now I can't get the
bloody thing out of my head. Damn them.
Anyway, hi to everyone. Nice to be back, even though I've never been away.
Cheers,
Nigel

Hey all
Got home on Friday and got a card from the post office that said to
pick up the vintage video, and pay the customs, I literally ran to the post
office to retrieve this collecter's item I've been waiting for impatiently.
Stupid me, I didn't even read and it said I had to bring ID, which I didn't
have, so had to come back grumbling my head off. Anyhow then I went back and
got it.
As soon as I got back I popped it in and \/\/ [] \/\/ !!! This is a
MUST! I love the fact that it's a homevideo, rather then a professional
shoot. Mike and the boys are really goofy at times and very hilliarious as
well. Someone already posted the songs, A few of the jams are really great,
about 52 mins long and the photo is done really well too! Charlie is a
really funny guy and seemed really kewl.
Petrucci with his BC Rich guitar was still mastering his solo
techniques, in AFiL the solo is quite different, defintately not as much
tapping and mostly bends, but still very nice. Portnoy is sight to see, a
real Peart, Myung shyer then ever, dosen't eben want to say hi to the
camera, and is sitting down with his bass most of the time and just
practicing even during some of the jams. Kevin Moore with his black Leather
Jacket is great but we don't see him often. Charlie reminds me of Bon Scott
in this Video. It's great to see all the posters in the back, (Yes, Rush)
You also see Cymbals hanging from the wall, so I'm wondering if this is
Mike's actual Basement at the time, because you see stairs going up. (Mike
if you're reading could you comfirm?)
I strongly recommend it to any jammer on the list.

No track-by-treack (maybe later), just the following:
1.) The CD absolutely rocks.
2.) Don't expect "Behind", expect even better.
3.) Superior is pushing prog to a new plateau, incorporating
new styles, while maintaining their complexity and chunk.
4.) I might even go so far as to say that this is the type of
album that Falling into Infinity should have been....
5.) If you get any album this year, get "Younique". No Ytsejammer
will be disappointed.....
6.) Highlights of the CD....Tracks 3,4,8,and 9.....the only
track that that I don't think is fantastic, just OK, is
track 2. The rest just blow you away.
7.) The production is really good as well.....
Thanks to Paulie Cashman for his work in getting us the CDs, and
to Superior for putting out some kick-ass music.
I still hate ya, Bernd..... :)

Yo,
Pete was right on about the level of musicianship in Tribal Tech. All bassists should DEFINETELY take a listen to Gary Willis. He plays a five string, fretless like no one else. Personally, I like Willis' solo album better than the Tribal Tech albums, it's looser, more of a jamming environment. It's on Alchemy Records, and I've seen it at Tower once. Anyway, have a good one!

>Anyway.. I've been wondering what the whole deal is.. Why can't they = >just sell the US version in Japan? (Or the US version with japanese = >liner notes) >
OK, I'm not really sure about this, maybe someone else can clear it further. My understanding is that it costs a lot of money to release U.S. product in Japan through whatever channels its normally done so they tend to put extra material on the releases to encourage the Japanese to shell out for the "official Japanese release." If the Japanese release didn't have extra songs (or disc in the case of DT-FII), the consumers could get U.S. imports (which would then have the same track listing) for less than the Japanese version, and the Japanese concerns (subsidiaries of the record companies?) that make money off of Japanese releases, don't anymore. Some record store guy told me this once, and I'm not sure how true it is but it seems to make some sense. Please correct this if its wrong.
Does anybody know where I can get Bruce Dickinson's Skunkworks live EP and video? Or any Dickinson boots from Skunkworks or Accident of Birth? Or, more along the lines of the rest of this post, a reliable information source for new Japanese releases, including tracklistings? I'm sick of buying domestic and then finding out later the Japanese release has extra material and then having to decide if I want to pay upwards of $30 or more just to get the extra material (alas, I usually do). Thanks-
-Brian.

My brother has bought the new Angra album "Fireworks". It's not a bad album but don't expect too much. I've read many different reviews from "very good" to "very bad". Dose anybody have the album allready ? Any reviews ? I will post mine later.

Well, MAYBE this answers the questions about bonus tracks, but who knows? This info comes to you from Wildside Imports at http://users.netonecom.net/~wildside/
Has anyone ever ordered from them? They have a lot of rare stuff, and good prices on stuff that we 'jammers want. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Looking forward to a CD buying spree, Kez

I've ordered from them. And if they have the disc in stock, they are fairly quick (about 2 weeks). However, e-mail them first to check if what you want is in stock. Either that or list tons of alternates. Or else you may be waiting quite awhile before they get it in stock. This is especially true for the rare stuff they have listed. I have found that they have a habit of listing things they may not have in stock at the time but maybe had in the past (example: Morgana Lefay - Past, Present, Future and Saints and Sinners - s/t). Either that or they may have a small supply that quickly disappears and then it takes several months before they get more copies in stock. So in conclusion: e-mail/phone first.

If you want an even better one, get his second album with the orchestra, called Guitar Slinger. It includes a remake of "The House is Rockin'" by stevie ray vaughan and "Rumble In Brighton" by the Stray Cats, Setzer's old band. Guitar slinger also has the smoothest song I have ever heard in my life, called "Sammy Davis City," and the second smoothest, "A Town Without Pity." these are both amazing slow jazz songs, and Setzer has the perfect voice to pull it off. I get chills listening to him sing these songs every time.
