I got my copy of I&W's yesterday and was saddened by the statement by MP that "Cover My Eyes, Where Are You Now,Raise The Knife,Speak To Me, & The Way It Used To Be" will not be released now with the new era of Jordan. I personally would like to see these songs released. Is anyone interested in getting a petition going to see if the band would put these songs on an EP and make them available to the fan club?

    Mike....

A couple of things that I think I should point out....

Cover My Eyes and Speak To Me were done just that way. Thru the fan club via the 98 Xmas Fan Club CD. Speak To Me also appeared as a bonus with FII first editions in Japan. Raise The Knife you have on the Lido Beach Party only it's under the title of "Showdown". The Way It Used To Be is on the Hollow Years Cd single. The only one that is not readily available is Where Are You Now? and I have that one in mp3 format.

Portnoy probably won't go for it. But you never know, because he did say something about doing just that.... Releasing old stuff and rare tracks thru the fan club. I'm betting it's for a fee though.

    What do you think?

I would say that Terry Bozzio is one of the sickest drummers, ever. Better than Portnoy? Definitely. Take a listen to his work with Zappa, specifically "The Black Page" for a taste of his genius. And to those who don't know, that piece is titled in that manner because, after Zappa had the score printed, there were so many notes that there was more black than white on the paper. He tends to rip off some Tony Williams licks in the solo (specifically that cool swiss-triplet bass drum stuff that he played in Miles Davis' band), but otherwise it is an absolute polyrhythmic phenomenon. The thing with Terry is that he does so many little ghost note type things that, in a band context, he doesn't really stand out. Hence people's misconception of Terry's true abilities. I would recommend getting any of his "Soloing Over Ostinatos" videos. Watching one of these (especially if you're a drummer) is positively disheartening. The guy has taken limb independence to an entirely untouched plateau. I don't think I've heard anyone (with the possible exception of Dennis Chambers) with his level of expertise. Mike Portnoy is a child compared to this, AND the best thing about the videos is that they're very listenable. Even my non-musician friends keep asking to borrow my videos. Terry doesn't lose you with a non-stop barrage of notes. He constructs his solos carefully and sounds like a one man symphony orchestra. Yeah, he's fast, but that's not the real focus of his style, like it seems to be with Mike's. Bozzio is more into polyrhythmic grooviness. So yeah...to whomever it was that wanted a starting point, get the videos or the album "Drawing the Circle" from www.audiophileimports.com DO NOT GET ANYTHING BY MISSING PERSONS. That stuff is not representative of him at all. It's more pop vocal oriented with no fancy-pants musicianship. -Rahul Ananda-

    Hey folks...

Put up a couple of new mp3s on my site.

The first fills a request a few 'Jams ago for a live You Not Me. This one is from 1/2/98 Hartford, CT. This is the second to last show of the first American/Euro leg of the FII tour. Pretty good sound quality, nothing special.

The second is a rare, guitar based instrumental called Slow Motion. It was apparently played only four times in this arrangement, tho' snippets might be familiar to you. This version is from the first gig of the second American leg of the Images and Words tour, and is the first show Slow Motion was played. Most folks won't have heard this, so give it a listen. Sound quality is also good, but nothing remarkable. Long Island, 1/2/93.

URL is in my .sig. Hope everyone enjoys...

Maybe if we ask Mike politely he might get us Mp3's of the demos to these uploaded to UACM or something. I know we've already got STM and TWIUTB and a nice live version of CME, but we've still had didley as far as decent sounding issues of RTK and WAYN. Both are songs I'm really interested in hearing in >good< quality. I'm willing to bet that they've recorded decent if not good demos of both songs. I'd be perfectly happy with that. -- KorgX3 says, "Let's ask Mikey, Mikey will eat anything."

You probably almost definitely could find that mag, if you joined the fan club. It's cheap, and it's well worth it.

    Hello,

Just wondering if anyone can give me some help in regards to some problems I'm having with my CD burner.

I'm trying to record .WAV files from my HD on to CD. This hasn't yet proved a problem with using the Close-Session/Track-at-Once option, the audio tracks play fine on any CD player (though it does leave annoying two second gaps). To counteract the gaps, I tried using the Disc-at-Once option, but the audio plays back with a shocking, squawbled effect making it unlistenable. The individual tracks are recognisable, but the actual audio is stuffed.

I am at a total loss as to why the Disc-at-Once option is corrupting the audio, even at 1x and 2x write speeds. FYI, I'm using a Acer (AOpen) 6x2x2 CDRW.

Any help wold be muchly appreciated. Please reply privately at slslb@winshop.com.au

    Luke.
