I saw on "Cyber Moon" that DT will be playing live in June in Korea.
According to JR, they plan to be finished recording by the end of May.
Is it fair to expect a new tune or two (or three, or four...) to be
played at that show? I hope so....
Well, when Mr. Portnoy gets a break during the recording process, the
Ytsejam would love to get a little update as to the progress of the
album. Wouldn't we, Ytsejam?
Take care,

I'm just wondering what kind of CDR's you're using. I've had similar problems
using TDK and Verbatim discs...but that was using any kind of session...Disc at
once, or Closed. I recently used Disc at Once using Ricoh CDR's...which BTW I've
NEVER had a problem with, and everything turned out just fine.

You've never listened to Operation Mindcrime? Stop "thinking" and get
buying! If you like DT, I can't imagine you not liking most of the Queensryche
stuff. IMHO, Mindcrime is their best work. It really is a great album.

Hello Jammers....
I had recently used a friend's cd-r to burn some discs, and had some
problems...
The very last tracks of the cd's I was reading were always cut short....It
would read the first few minutes and then cut it off..for instance, a twelve
minute song would be cut off at 9 minutes, a 5 minute song would end up
around one minute....This would happen whether I did it track-at-once or disc
at once (first to the hard drive, then to a disc)....He's got an 8.4 gig hard
drive, 266 mhz processor....It was always the very last song of the disc, the
others worked great....this is writing at 1X mode as well..... It does it on
the four-song maxi-cd's as well as full length ones....If anyone has any idea
how to remedy this, I would appreciate some e-mail explaining how.....Thanks
in Advance

greetings, all!
2 things:
1) does anyone have videos for any of the following:
the DT show at the Birch Hill last may
Portnoy's drum clinic in LI last december
any of the 1998 Xmas shows
any of the LTE shows (besides Calvin6S's video...i already have that
one)
any of the recent Petrucci clinics
please e-mail me privately if you have any of these...i would be willing to
trade for copies...
2) regarding the releasing (or not, as the case may be...) of presently
unreleased tracks (WAYN, RTK, etc.), it was i who originally mentioned the
possibility of these tracks being released through/to the DTIFC (this was
after i brought the subject of releasing other tracks up to MP after the
Poughkeepsie Xmas show, to which he stated the potential release throught
the DTIFC)...of course, this was before the DS/JR switcheroo, so he/they may
have decided not to do this, which would be a very sad thing...
anyhoo, see ya @ the next DT show (well, if it's on the east coast, anyway
:o)

Hey jammers, i recently read a GFTPM mag (Guitar for the practicing=20
musician) that had a Rush (Geedy Lee) interview in it.
In the intro, prior to the interview, said something like this:
=09"....Rush has been like a father to groups like Queensryche and=20
Dream Theater...."
=09Yeah, i already knew this.....but what dazzled me was that Dream=20
Theater was even mentioned in this early 1989 issue of the mag!
=09Did any other major Guitar mags publications cover anything that DT=20
did before they released I&W? Just curious to know.......
Also, did JP appeared in the Spotlight Artist, or Hometown Heros...or=20
whatever it was called Mike Varney column?
Michael Romeo appeared....i can=B4t remember on what issue of what=20
mag......but he looked thinner.....and with poofier hair...the 80=B4s way!
He hadn=B4t formed SX yet.......
Pardon me my shitty english,

I'd personally wait to see what kinds of insanity is on the next album;
and who knows what surprises might end up on the next tour? Yeah, those
are great songs, but DT strikes me as being at the "let's move forward"
point in their career. Assuming you're talking about actually
re-recording them with Jordan on keys, I'd rather see their time spent
creating new things. With all the side projects and stuff (like family)
they're doing, when they sleep is beyond me...
I agree with all the earlier comments many digests ago, especially the
one (Pat Sullivan's?) about lessening the value of a petition by going
to that well too often.
<tongue-in-cheek>
The other option is to wait for a week. No one hit The Big Game (Mass.
State Lottery) last week ($160 Million then) so when I hit it this week,
I'll purchase DT and release a gold plated 8 CD box set, with all of
WDADU redone with James/Jordan, all the unrelease stuff, all of the
Majesty stuff redone with the new members, a holograhic laser projection
of live outakes of the band in the studio.
I'll pay Al, the Ytseprogtologist, $20 Million to build his own studio
on Air Force One. You know so DT's music will survive Armageddon, and so
they can appear in^H^Habove many cities. The Al-approved 30megaton
speakers shall broadcast from about 100 feet off the deck :)
Once built, there'll be an add-on full immersive VR game which
interfaces to the holograph. Via the net you'll get to make critical
lyrical/composition decisions and the band will do takes with your
ideas...
..and anything else anyone needs. I'll sell it for $12, fair enough? :)
</tongue-in-cheek>
Oops, lunchtime, later...
Peace!

If you ever read the book 1984 by George Orwell (and if you haven't...
do that :) ), then you'll probably like Operation: Mindcrime. It's kind
of a metal opera, maybe like, the Queensryche version of Tommy (with a
different plot, of course). Because of this, some of the songs may suffer
a little, but when listened to in the context of the whole album, it's
cool because it tells a story. Definitely listen to it all the way
through the first time.
It's kinda hard for me to accurately describe what they sound like,
because it's pretty subjective, but I'd say if you take some of the edge
off of Dream Theater, and stick in Geoff Tate's more whiny (but still
good) voice, and throw in just a little bit of Meatloafish melodrama
(especially on "Suite Sister Mary"... when the girl comes in, it totally
reminded me of the girl from "I'd Do Anything for Love"), you get
something close to Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime. I'm sure a
hundred people will disagree with me on some points, but that's as close
as I can articulate the atmosphere of the album. I'm not a fanatical
Queensryche fan, but I really liked Operation: Mindcrime

I have a friend whose CD-R started doing this, except it was a slightly
different problem: His would stop burning after a few minutes regardless
of how long the track was. The guy at the company he called (I forget
what the brand name of his CD-R was) said that this is a problem found in
some CD-Rs: A "lazy" laser. Apparently it isn't uncommon to find a laser
that just can't burn long enough and when it wants to stop, it does. He
was told that it would be replaced for free, so it wouldn't hurt to call
your CD-R (or your friend's CD-R) manufacturer and ask about it.
This may or may not be the problem with your CD-R, but I thought I'd at
least tell you about it.

Hi. Please do not forget that although "Showdown" is a version of Raise
The Knife, it does not contain the vocals. As far as I know, the song has
only been heared with the vocals before the last bunch of shows, while the
crowd anxiously awaited The Rooster, and the start of the concert.
I would love to have (even a crummy sounding) copy of Raise The Knife with
vocals. Maybe someday copies of this will appear.
I like Kitaro. In college I took a writing/ meditating class. I checked
some meditating newsgroups for ideas, that led me to Kitaro's "Dream" cd -
(has some vocals by Jon Anderson) Although I liked it, it didn't get much
airplay in my room until my roommate and I lived near a popular tattoo-ist
:) At all hours of the night he decorated people loudly. So we played
Kitaro, and it helped. Ah, behold the power of... music(?)

I've really liked Guillory and Bradley from what I've heard on Age of

Any help will be really apreciated...Thanx in advance...!

regarding Sean Malone and Gordian Knot:
There seem to be at least three bands called Gordian Knot. One is from
Texas and is described as "Rock and Reel." Another has a website

I don't know, Queensryche doesn't move me much. They seem far less
progressive than Dream Theater (but then again, DT is the only progressive
metal band I like at all -- my tastes tend more toward King Crimson,
Devil Doll, Doctor Nerve, etc. Metal seems too cliche and simple most of
the time, though DT escapes this trap). They seem more like a straight
ahead metal band, though with some progressive elements. Oh well, I'll
probably be crucified for this, and certainly it should be taken with a
grain of salt -- the only albums I've heard are Mindcrime, Empire, and
Promised Land (which seems to me like their best work among the three).
