Rachel Z played keyboards on Al Dimeola's latest, and also toured with the
guy....a pretty awesome show, that was, and she seemed competent enough on
the keys.....

The playing is not bad, but this as much as anything should show everyone
just how good James LaBrie is. These guys can all hit the notes, yes, but
there's no power there. Most of them, especially the vocalist from Empty
Tremor, just sound really feminine and weak. I'd prefer Dominici or John
Arch (who actually did some really good work with Fates) to some of these
guys. So the next time someone's looking to bash LaBrie, just look around
and see what the best new vocalists on the block are sounding like. Long
live James... :)

Say, this reminds me - and I don't know why, either, but - does anyone
know anything about highly kickass music video director michel gondry?
His work includes bjork's Human Behavior, and more recently, the new
chemical brothers video, which is so good that by association, I now
like a song that I would normally tune out.
For That Matter: Does anyone know where I can get more info on music
videos in general? I searched the web and found very little info - I'd
like to see the equivalent of the IMDB or something like that.

Disabling MIME / HTML encoding
The Microsoft email programs (Outlook, Exchange, Internet Mail and News)
and newer versions of Netscape are set by default to do MIME / HTML
encoding of all messages. You can disable this setting by following the
procedures detailed here.
Please note, changing this setting will affect all mail you send using your email
program. (except for Exchange).
For Netscape Navigator:
1.Choose Options, Mail and News Preferences
2.On the Composition tab, select Allow 8-bit (instead of Mime Compliant
(Quoted Printable))
3.Click on OK
For Netscape Communicator:
1.Choose Preferences, Mail & Groups, Messages
2.Deselect "By default, send HTML messages"
3.Click on OK
For Microsoft's Outlook and Outlook Express:
1.Choose Tools, Options
2.On the Send tab in the Mail sending format section, choose Plain Text
(instead of HTML)
3.Click on OK
For Microsoft Exchange:
1.Open address book
2.Highlight the ATM list address (atm@shore.net)
3.Right click and choose Properties
4.Click on the Send Options button
5.Disable MIME and HTML on the options page
6.Click on OK
For Microsoft Internet Mail:
1.Choose Options, Mail Sending Format
2.Click on Settings to open Plain Text Settings with MIME Message Format
dialog box
3.Change Encode Text Using: "Quoted Printable" to "None"
4.Click on OK

LEGENDA - Autumnal
ORPHANED LAND - El Norra Alila
For those unfamiliar with Orphaned Land (as I was until
last week) they are very reminiscent of the French band
Misanthrope, both in the complexity of their music and
the variety of styles employed. Coming from Israel, they
also make large use of "ethnic" instruments and musical
elements. 100% recommendable for all Misanthrope fans
(and I know there are some here on the list).
I hope to get the reviews out this week.
Good news for Queensryche fans. If, like me, you were
disappointed by the last album, you will be in for a
pleasant surprise if the promo CD that fell into my
hands is anything to go by - somewhere between "Promised
Land" and "Empire".

As promised to Gary for the promo of Mullmuzzler, my review.....
After repeated listenings to "Keep It to Yourself" by Mullmuzzler, the
solo project by Dream Theater's James Labrie, I have concluded that
it is, at best, an uneven debut. Labrie co-wrote all songs with individual
members of Shadow Gallery, Dali's Dilemma, and Magellan, and their
influences unmistakably show. The tracks run the gamut from the brilliant
("As a Man Thinks") to the downright cheesy ("Beelzebubba"). Labrie's
voice, as usual, is excellent throughout, and he has wisely surrounded
himself with some of the best musicians in the business. What really
bothers me, though, is that, excepting keyboardist Matt Guillory, these
gifted guys are playing none of their own music. What might the album
have sounded like if Labrie had co-written the songs with the guys who
were actually going to play the music? I think this decision forces the
album into inconsistency and eliminates any chance of a true "band"
sound. Musically, the album is at least pleasantly diverse and always
interesting; lyrically, it falls again into inconsistency. Overall, this
album
is a must-have for any fans of Labrie or any of his co-conspirators;
however, I don't see it bringing in many new fans for either Labrie or the
progressive rock/metal genre as a whole. I give it a 6.5/10.

Actually, if you click on REVIEW, you'll get links for the webpages of the bands (who have a site).
