I must have missed this in the original digest - trying to catch up on too
much post-Powermad mail - but I certainly qualify, being in Lorton, VA. I
know Kevin Madden, Kez, Glenn F. and Pat Daugerty are locals (or
semi-locals), as well, and I know I'm forgetting a couple. If they're still
subscribed, that is - I post so little now that I'm practically a lurker.

Somebody (I can't remember who or I'd reply privately) asked about who
originally did the song "Paint it Black" (covered by God for the movie
"Stir of Echoes"). The Rolling Stones originally did it. One of my
favourite Stones songs (in addition to Sympathy for the Devil). I
remember when Paint it Black used to be the theme song for the TV show
"Tour of Duty." Great great song.

Yeah, but the album *features* his singing. For example, it doesn't
feature Mike Keneally going off on some wild guitar solo or a 4 minute
musical interlude. (Not that there's anything WRONG with that. :)
And I agree, the high notes are excessive, hence the "crunchiness" I
    described in my last post.

He also designed the album art, which got messed up in the process.
EVERYONE who has seen the cover has said, "Why is he biting that guy's
ear off?" As soon as I explain the "mistake" they go, "Oooooohhhh."

Geeee... that would have been pretty simple except that you just posted the
instructions for SUBSCRIBING to the list. What also would have been simple,
was for you to actually post the correct instructions, or point him to
    where he could find them.

Fortunately I've already sent him the correct instructions privately...
since he's tired of receiving the posts, he might not be checking the list
    for a response.

To all those 30+ exmetalhead jammers here, pick up (or dust off) a copy of Judas Priest's Screaming for Vengence and crank it way up. I did that yesterday and just had the best 80s flashback in a long time. . . :-)

Yep. And so did my copy of the new Jethro Tull album (dubiously titled
"Dot.Com"). I ordered both about a month ago.

I dunno about anyone else out there, but I'm planning on writing CDNow and
giving 'em a piece of my mind. They should not have the option to preorder
if they're not actually going to order the preordered copies until the
release date. At the very least, there should be a large warning to the
customer somewhere letting them know that their preordered CDs probably
won't get to them for at least a week or two after the actual release date.
I'd suggest anyone else who feels the same also griping. CDNow is a
business -- we, the users of the Internet made it, and <insert a clich=E9d
    phrase here>.

And that's all I have to say about that.

    Greetings fellow Jamsters,

I'd like to pick everyone's brain for a strange, but technically justifiable
idea I have. I wish to make a speaker system that uses spherical cavities
for the woofer and midrange drivers. The spherical shape has countless
advantages in terms of acoustical behavior. It really is the ideal shape
for a speaker enclosure. B&W uses spherical cavities for the midrange
drivers in their Nautilus series speakers, I'd like to take this one step further
and include the woofer in a sealed spherical enclosure. Unfortunately, I'm not
sure how to accomplish this. It needs to be a nearly perfect sphere with an
internal volume of 3.13 to 3.5 cubic feet. (88.64 to 99.12 liters) It has to be
an extremely dense material that's not prone to resonating at lower frequencies.
It also needs to be light enough for two men to carry, so concrete is out of the
question. Concrete is the material of choice for the midrange since it's volume
and physical size makes it's use plausible as well as somewhat practical in
terms of density, weight, and ease of reshaping once set.

Ideally, I want the cabinet to have no influence on the sound of the system
other than providing the appropriate internal volume as dictated by the
Thiele-Small parameters of the driver itself. The enclosure needs to be
extremely rigid to tolerate the tremendous acoustic pressure, but can't
be brittle or prone to ringing when struck. A three foot diameter Corian
ball would be nice to start with if someone made one. Hollowing that out
through the driver hole could get a little tedious though. :) I'd hate to think
what the price would be considering 3/4" x 30" Corian sells for $90.00 per
linear foot. ANY reasonable ideas welcomed.

P.S. The outside doesn't necessarily have to be spherical, but it certainly
would look interesting. Imagine Portnoy pounding away through the 800
Lb. snowmen of sound... Sitting in the corners of your living room :)
