a cheque for $1 million if DT plays a tour in Australia (cheque will not
    be honoured :P )

I don't know whether you're in Sydney or not, but I have found the closest
thing to a DT shrine in Sydney - Utopia records on George Street at Town
Hall. They have all DT albums, both LTE releases, DT singles, and some
stuff of DT as Majesty... :) Oh, and instructional videos from JP and JM.
So, if you're in Sydney, get yourself down to Town Hall and get in there.
And, if you're not, look Utopia up in the book... I don't know whether
    they're a chain.

The bands name is Shakti. It was during the time when ol' John boy was
deep into Indian philosophy and stuff. Great band. Albums are hard to

Well, I've been a big fan of Keneally's since seeing him and Beer for Dolphins
open for Spock's Beard at the Roxy last year. Their "Sluggo" album has some
real gems on it, and displays his enormous instrumental prowess (and weirdness
as well!). I just got "Nonkertompf" last week, and let me tell you this album
is not for the musically sqeamish or weak of heart. It definitely didn't click
with me right away like "Sluggo" did, but I'm going to give it a chance to
grow on me. This may involve slogging through a lot of Keneally's excessive
non-melodic creative runoff, but in the end it might be one of those albums
    that
one can come to appreciate on its own merits. Time will tell...

Umm, that can be SHAKTI! Great band, but it's a ethno/world.
McLaughlin was messing with Indian/Oriental music back then and he
    studied it quite good.

Instruments like tabla, sitar, mridangam all over it! :) And special
guitar made bu John himself, designed for this kind of music! The one
Shakti album I have has shred all over it, both by John and others.
Imagine McLaughlun speed-of-light solos dueling with those Indian
    konga-like percussions! :) AWESOME!
This is ethno/world music I love best!

    > they are a reforming or have reformed or something and then

WHAT??? If we're talking about Shakti, that would be great! But I find
it odd reforming such a band with such a music in present time! :( I
would love to see it but I don't think many other folks care it

    Hey Jammers,

Having been graced with both Mullmuzzler and Royal Hunt's "Paradox" in one week, and having experienced more eargasms in the last few months than would be normal, I'm afraid I'm becoming musically spoiled. To think: In these last few months, I have been exposed to such an incredible amount of music, including a lot of non-prog stuff my guitar teacher keeps recommending, and I can't believe how great it all is. Let me throw some titles out: LTE2. Dali's Dilemma: MFF. Royal Hunt: Paradox. Mullmuzzler: KitY. Symphony X: TDWoT. Devin Townsend: OM: Biomech. Chroma Key: DAFR. Mike Stern: TiP, UD. Pat Metheny: BSL, AG. Holdsworth: MF. Joe Stump: RFR. Steve Morse Band: S-F ...

While these 2 are still fresh in my mind, I'd like to say a bit about Mullmuzzler and RH. First, Mullmuzzler: IMVHO, James LaBrie has not sounded this good since Images and Words ... he only screeches on 1 or 2 high notes, and his voice sounds stronger and better than ever. (IMO!) The music itself? Let me say that our KJLB has assembled quite the "prog all-star team" to write this record ... but the emphasis here seems to be more on *songwriting*, which I think is great. No odd time stuff, as has been said, except for a few trippy things in "As a Man Thinks". The ballads are wonderful ("Sacrifice" and "Slow Burn"), and "Beelzebubba", cheesy as it may be, is good for a chuckle or 2. I know this is saying a lot, but as far as the SONGWRITING aspect is concerned, I would not mind hearing an album like this from Dream Theater. =P

Royal Hunt. D.C. Cooper is incredible!! Paradox is an incredibly well-thought out, well-written concept album, IMHO, and one of the finest pieces of music I think Magna Carta has ever released. It has some great neo-classical themes in it, and there is no over-done shred or wankery from anyone in the band. Where is the recognition this album deserves?!?!? It's only been a week, but I'm ranking it up there with the best of 'em.

*** The Berklee Guitar Sessions: It was a crazy, fun, inspirational week. The schedule was a bit busy ... I remember having time to breathe once, maybe? Anyway, I chose metal for my styles and ensemble classes, and it ended up being a lot of fun. Joe Stump was teaching again, and he also did a concert halfway thru the week at the BPC ... I still think he has machinery built into his arms and wrists, or something. The man is fast. In my ensemble we did 2 Satch songs from SWtA (Ice9 and Crushing Day) ... I snuck the Paradigm Shift riff into my G solo in the latter. :) Anyway, that was great, but the inspiration didn't stop there ... Bruce Bartlett was probably my favorite performance, with Joe Stump (son of Yngwie, the Young Swedish Viking who saved the guitar world from itself =P) following as a close 2nd. Mike Stern did a clinic, which I managed to bootleg (shhhhh!!) on cassette ... some very helpful insights and tips, and of course, a few awe-inspiring demonstrations. In a nutshell, it was both a fun/crazy week, and a good reality check inasfaras my own musicianship is concerned. I was happy to make the acquaintance of fellow 'jammer Matt Molite, who, for 16, is well on his way to becoming a great player (yer welcome dude) ... among a few other interesting people (Gizmo, the Canuck, Donut Boy, Prodigy ... we gave everyone nicknames). Kick some ass, the week did.

Anyway, this post is becoming long-winded and is probably useless info to most of you anyway, so I will shut up. :) Happy posting.

    ~Brian

Yes - Yes Yes - Yessongs Yes - Time And A Word Yes - Yes Album, The Yes - Fragile Yes - Close To The Edge Yes - Relayer<<

I'd definitely reccomend Relayer, all the way, and I know I don't speak f= or the entire 'jam when I say that. It's the most aggressive of the albums,= in my opinion, and it's where they really shine. Alan's drums sound very prominent, Jon's voice is good but not overused -- the lyrics are kept to= a minimum. Rick's not with the band at this point, but Patrick Moraz certa= inly stands up well in his shadow. Overall, I can listen to this album over a= nd over and still not get bored of the sword-clashing in Gates of Delerium o= r the "frantic rush up the scale" of Sound Chaser. I'd say it's definitely my favorite Yes album.

Then again, I also like Tales, so you might want to take my opinion with = a few grains of salt.

Two vampires wanted to go out to eat, but were having a little trouble deciding where to go. They were a little tired of the local food in Transylvania and wanted something a little more exotic. After some discussion, they decided to go to Italy because they had heard that Italian food was really good.

So off they went to Italy and ended up in Venice. On a bridge over one of the canals, they hid in the shadows and waited for dinner. A few minutes later they noticed a young couple walking their way. As they neared, the vampires made their move. Each vampire grabbed a person, sucked them dry and tossed the remaining bodies into the canal below.

The vampires were extremely pleased with their meal and decided to have seconds. Another young couple approached a few minutes later and suffered the same fate as the first -- sucked dry and tossed into the canal below.

Our vampires are now fairly full but decide to get dessert. In a short while a third young couple provides just that. As with the first two couples, these people were also sucked dry and tossed over the rail into the canal.

The vampires decided that they had had a marvelous dinner but that it was time to head back home. As they started to walk away they began to hear some singing. They were puzzled because no one else was on the bridge. As they listened, they realize that it was coming from the canal. They looked over the rail and saw a big alligator in the water under the bridge, feasting on the bodies. They listened as the alligator sang...

I will second and third the above assertions. Paradox has been a constant source of musical pleasure for me since I got it about 8 months ago. I cannot believe how this CD still affects me after all the times I've listened to it......It is one of a very few discs that I can put on at ANY time, and be totally pleased with the selection. Please, if you don't already own this, you should hunt it down at all costs. But, of course, this is all in my humble opinion. I just KNOW that someone out there will now come and slam us both for liking pussy rock, or something........ I'll wait...
