Of mild interest was the latest issue of Bass Player, which, in its album
review section each month, takes the time to rip into an album it thinks
is particularly bad in the "Barbecue Pit". This month's selection was
LTE2, which, as one might suspect, was ripped for its excessiveness and
ultimate boredom.
So, hey, there's something to get all up-in-arms about, if you're inclined
to raise your arms wildly about things.

Just want to inform those Louisiana Jammers out there about "Music In
Progress" (guess where I got the name from), my progressive music show
airing Thursday nights at midnight on 91.1 KLSU. You get to hear a lot
of varied prog from Dream Theater, Fates to stuff like Porcupine Tree
and Anathema, plus heavy @$$ sh*t like Cea Serin. And of course Devin
Townsend (Ocean Machine, Infinity).
CHeck that sucker out if you live in the Baton Rouge area.

Paradox and Moving Target are both tremendous records (thanks Phil :)

air-guitar world championships in the northern Finnish town of Oulu,
beating
mostly male competitors from around the world.
Dressed in an English school uniform in homage to AC/DC guitarist Angus
Young, Johanna Ala-Siurua's breathtaking, mimed guitar licks and stage
presence to the track ``Let There Be Rock'' proved an unbeatable

well, since my good friend Brian gave his briefing of the Berklee Guitar sessions, I thought Id add my .02 (not like you really need to hear anymore about it :-)
Anyway, like it has been said earlier, Joe Stump is an incredible player, and I had the benefit of studying under him for the 2nd year in a row, plus the benefit of seeing him live. The Event guys (Matt and Jay) were backing him and did a fantastic job. They are both incredible players and if you havent gotten Electric Skies yet, go get it!!! My ensamble also performed Ice 9, as well as Maiden's Hallowed Be Thy Name (my suggestion :-). But probably one of the coolest parts the the whole week was when my ensamble teacher pulled me aside and told me "if you're planning on going to college here, give me a call and I'll reccomend you, you have great potential" so I think that was pretty cool :-). I'd highly reccomend any guitar players on the Jam to try going to these sessions, they help your playing imensely (I improved incredibly in my time spent there) and you also get to meet other players and learn from them, as well as experience other styles.
BTW - Brian, you forgot Mammoth Ass ;-)

Pussy. There, you didn't have to wait long. Anyway, I bought the
D.C. Cooper solo disc at Powermad, and I have to say that I
remain unimpressed. Granted, D.C. has a good voice (Halfordish
in places), but considering the writers on the disc (including Ostby
from Conception, a favorite of mine), the material is just not
strong enough. It's not a bad disc by any means, but...it pales
even compared to the Vescera/Caffery Metalium disc. Other than
the ill-advised cover of "Smoke on the Water" (Gee, what could be
more original? A cover of "Paranoid, perhaps?), that cd is pretty
damn good straight metal. Of course the spoken narration "true
metal" bullshit is hokey, but hey, someone out there is probably waiting
to call me a pussy, too (right, Kez??).
