I was watching the Timberwolves home opener on TV (unfortunately
I couldn't be there in person) and was pleasantly surprised at the
very loud background music that was played for player introductions.

    It was very cool !!

Any jammers who were at the show know who was introducing
Biaxident? I was listening to the mp3, and I didn't know how was
    talking (obviously).

I'm curious, because it didn't sound like MP or JP. Was it JR?
Levin? Maybe it WAS MP. I don't know...

Allusion? I don't remember ny song named Allusion, but I do remember A
Vision, a great ballad-type song with a lot of hooks. It was included on
one of the later-era B*hr boots. I'll encode it today and tell the jam
    where to get it.

To Partha and anyone else who cares:

Nuno Bettencourt (formerly of Extreme) has a new solo CD under the band
moniker "Mourning Widows." Currently it is only available through Polydor
Japan (w/ 2 kickass bonus tracks), and I think it will release in the US in
    the summer.

Personally, I thought "Schizophonic" was the best album of 1997, and
"Mourning Widows" is even BETTER!! It's like Schizo, but it's also got
more instrumental parts in songs, and I think it's more even than Schizo was.

And, as usual, Nuno's vocals are brilliant. He's got a knack for writing a
great song and a great chorus. And his guitar work is great, too.

His cousin Donovan Bettencourt played bass on it, and Nuno played guitars,
drums and vocals. The drums are credited to "Billy Vegas" in the liner
notes, but that's just a pseudonym for Nuno. I guess he wanted it to
appear to be mroe of a "band" thing, not just a solo CD. Mike Mangini was
playing drums for him, but left before recording, I guess. Apparently,
    Nuno's looking for a drummer.

    Hope that helps,
    Dan

Well, not really the press. Just a UW campus paper. They ran a valentines
feature called 'The Cardinal Arts Desk Presents Songs to Make Sweet Love
To'. It lists about 25 bands in 7 categories (and Chef wasn't one of them,
what a crock). There in the 'Music to make love to while in a dorm room'
category was DT. Heh, can't say I've tried that before. Funny the other
band in that category was Dave Matthews Band. The only two good bands in
the article. I guess I'll have to move back into the dorms, find a dorm
chicky, and crank up Puppies On Acid. Duh-duh-duh duh-duh-duh aw yeah
    baby!!!!!!

    Hail,

I know there are quite a few LORDIAN GUARD and old WARLORD fans on this mighty list so I thought you might enjoy this new info I saw posted on Perpetual Motion (prog/power metal board) read below.......

    cheers, Carlo (Fates)

NP: EDDY ANTONINI "When Water Became Ice"

------------------------------------------------------ I have some info from Bill Tsamis on the upcoming Lordian Guard CD, "The Holy Empire." I also have a tape of rough instrumental mixes of some songs. There's no release date scheduled yet, but thought I'd try to create some anticipation...

The new CD is more power-metal oriented, and less religious in lyrical content. The general theme of the album is "mankind's potential to destroy himself," and it includes a new version of the Warlord classic "Lucifer's Hammer" (the chorus of which is incidentally the source of HammerFall's name...) Here's the full tracklist:

    1) Invaders 2) Achilles' Revenge 3) Free Spirit, Soar 4) The Holy Empire 5) 70,000 Sorrows 6) Lucifer's Hammer 7) (possibly a renaissance guitar piece) 8) Civilization

Invaders is pretty straighforward and heavy (and very melodic) power metal -- about alien invasion (sort of a sequel to Warlord's "Aliens") Achilles' Revenge of course comes from Homer's Iliad. Despite clocking in under 6 minutes, the sound here is very epic ... maybe I'm more partial to it because I'm reading the Iliad in the original Greek this semester...!) The Holy Empire is the epic track of the CD, along the lines of the title track from the last album. Civilization is a remake of a song Bill wrote around 85 as part of the "Lordian Winds" demo, and is about the ephemeral nature of empires and of anything humans build.

Anyway, in short this album has more power, more of a "Warlord sound", and less of a religious flavor. Bill has mentioned in the past that he intends for Lordian Guard to "achieve Warlord status" after 3 or 4 albums. Having heard only the rough mixes (which don't have Vidonne's vocals yet), I can already tell you it's the best so far. It may be time for people who dismissed the 1995 debut to check out LG again. The production problems have been fixed and Tsamis is really hitting his stride now. Just to back me up, the link below leads to an MP3 (not CD-quality) of the instrumental mix of "Achilles' Revenge." It won't play streaming, you'll have to download it first (2.5MB). The link will only be active for a few days. Enjoy!
