    Perhaps it's because I don't pay enough attention (gotta be out persecuting
    women as all men are wont to do, you know), but I don't recall having seen
    anyone rave about the Pain of Salvation disc "One Hour by the Concrete Lake."
    If you like intelligent, powerful, and progressive metal with great lyrics,
    this is the disc for you. I know Dave Thomas (pixel planet, not Wendy's) has
    reviewed this disc on the Perpetual Motion board, but aside from him, I
    haven't seen any other 'jammers mention them. I highly recommend this disc.
    If you don't trust me, there should be some sound files floating around, or
    maybe you should tune into Dave's Ytseradio show, because I just bet he would
    play you some.

    Well, while I don't agree with your assessment of Warrel's performance on
    that song, the first Sanctuary album sounds COMPLETELY different from
    everything else he's ever done. Don't let that put you off of getting the
    Nevermore stuff. The Sanctuary album "Battle Angels" comes from - "Refuge
    Denied" - has virtually nothing to do with the second - "Into The Mirror
    Black" - and the Nevermore works.

    I like them both, but I can certainly see how the vocal style on the first
    Sanctuary album could annoy some people.

    He is, however, a much better singer than Chris Collins would ever even
    think about hoping to be. :)

    "Dreaming Neon Black" is up to that level, IMO. I like "Politics" a lot,
    too, but DNB is on another level entirely.

    Hello all,

    Just a few more bits of info on Threshold and other stuff.

    Bad News:
    The fanzine has shutdown :(, which is a pity has it's content was
    very good, similar to the DTIFC.

    Good News:
    To make up for the lost subscription fee the club is offering
    instead a fanclub limited issue CD called 'Decadent'. It's
    various radio versions and remixes including a club version of
    'Paradox' and a drum & bass mix of 'He is I am'=A4
    I look foward to that as I partial to some techno/metal
    tracks ala Mortal Kombat soundtrack. No flames pls...

    Worrying news:
    On Saturday just gone, I bought tickets for the upcoming gig at
    the London Astoria this Sunday. I was worried about not getting
    the tickets, as I always get them at the last minute. When I
    checked the serial numbers, there were 00003, 00004, and
    00005...Oh dear, I hope I don't have to run around trying to make
    place look full=A4

    Misheard news:
    I'm dragging along a good buddy who doesn't really go for much
    metal. So when I mentioned the band 'Threshold' and the 'Astoria'
    he was a bit taken aback.
    He was hesitant as the Astoria has a very popular Friday
    'Love-Muscle','Pink Night',and thought we were going to see
    a group called 'Fresh-hold'...doh=A4....

    Ok, thanks for reading=A4

      I totally agree with Rahul and everyone else who has been singing
    Kurzweil's praises. I own a K2000VP, and it's an incredible instrument.
    The ONLY drawbacks to it are the 61 synth action keyboard and the 24 note
    polyphony. But, of course, the K2500X solves those problems with an
    88-weighted key keyboard and 48-note polyphony. I just didn't have the
    cash to shell out for the 2500 when I needed the board. It's really cool,
    too, to listen to LTE after playing the 2000 so much. You can pick out
    the patches Jordan's using and say, "Hey! That sounds like patch 63!"
    etc., and then go and try (TRY TRY TRY) to play it on the very same sound.

      On the other hand, I've always found Korg, especially the Z1 and the
    Trinity, to be much better at synthy kinds of sounds. A perfect example
    is the intro to LITS on OIALT. Granted, that could be done with the Kurz,
    but it just seems to come more naturally to the Korgs.

      My goal is, of course, to purchase a Kurzweil K2500X and a Korg Trinity
    within the next year or so to round out my keys set. You know, then I can
    concentrate on the smaller ones like the Z1 and Prphecy, etc.

      My apologies to all the non-techies on the jam who don't like this kind
    of thing. It's my ultimate hobby, and hopefully someday my profession.
    :) We can all dream, right?

    it's so apparent that you didn't have to provide any evidence to your
    ludicrous claim. Shit? What exactly are you referring to? Technique? Even

    Writing, well, that's certainly more debatable. Is his music shitty?
    Well, you might not like it, but I gather a lot of Ytsejammers would do
    well to buy his "Return to the Center of the Earth" when it comes out. I
    hear Ozzy Osbourne's performance is very impressive. In fact, I see no
    reason why Rick Wakeman should not indeed be Lord and Master of the

            Sure we can.

    > an mp3. Do you use a text editor? Is it that simple? Or is it something
    > you can do in Winamp?

            You can use Winamp (if you open the ID3 tag editor with Alt-3,
    there's an option to remove the ID3 tag of the file) or you can do it
    by hand removing the last 128 bytes of the file, if you know how to do
    that (basically, writing a program to truncate the size of the file
    will do what you want).

            I'm assuming that your files use ID3 tags v1.x (i.e., those
    that do not contain lyrics). The format of ID3 tags is very simple:

            * 03 bytes containing the signature: "TAG";
            * 30 bytes for name of song;
            * 30 bytes for name of artist;
            * 30 bytes for the album;
            * 04 bytes for the year (so, MP3s are Y2K compliant :-) );
            * 01 byte for the style/genre of the song;
            * 30 bytes for the comments on the song.

            If you do write the program, a smart advice is to check if the
    last 128 bytes of the file have the signature 128 before doing
    anything. The probability that a file that does not contain an ID3 tag
    but that has these bytes set to "TAG" is very small.

            HTH, Roger...

    This is for anyone who's quite familiar with Conception. I just recently purchased Parallel Minds and in the liner notes where the lyrics are, there is a song listed called Black on Black and gives the lyrics. There is no such song on this CD. There is a song called Silver Shine and there is no listing for it with the lyrics. Can you tell me what's going on here? I tried looking for a hidden track but there is none. My guess is at the last minute before release they substituted Silver Shine for Black on Black and the liner notes were already published. Has anyone heard Black on Black? Gotta say that Conception is very quickly becoming one of my top favorite bands-in the top 5-these guys are good. Too bad Kahn went over to that lame band Kamelot. Sorry, for fans of theirs, but no balls and crunch. Tore 0stby is one hell of a guitarist.

    That would be a DUTCH band... And indeed, Mandylion is one of their best discs. I'd call it melodical gotic metal or something like that. They used to be a death metal band if I remember correctly, but that slightly changed when Anneke (their female singer) joined the band... Awesome! Thanks to MusicSnob for seconding my recommendation of POS. This CD is very impressive, one of the best of my recent purchases. I'd also like to thank him for reading my post on PM. Granted, the reviews I wrote were pretty short. They were just some quick thoughts after I listened to all the CDs that I got in a big box from Laser's Edge, as well as some I had picked up locally (I save all my long-winded ranting for Pixel Planet, which no one seems to look at anyway). I like that board, but sometimes it seems like getting an intelligent discussion going there is pretty hard. It seems that posts that review CDs or shows get almost no responses, but some trivia like "Favorite CD to listen to while you clean the bathroom" gets a mile long thread.

    I'd also like to thank him for recommending my Ytseradio show. If you're intrigued by the thought of what oddities I might play for you, tune in on Monday or Friday 4-6pm EST (1-3pm PST) for two hours of whatever I feel like playing. Yeah, I know, it's on during the day, but that's because all the nighttime slots are taken, and being on at night might interfere with my TV viewing (again, I'm so shallow).

    So listen to my show if you get a chance. I'll probably play some music you've never heard. And much like Rick Audet, I will also not be singing over any of the music...

    Was this serious??? :) We're talking about Mick from Motley Crue right? I always liked Dr. Feelogood album, great stuff, and the dude is great, but saying he's on a level of Petrucci - I don't think so! If he did something new maybe, or got awaken like Scolnick - I'll be glad to hear about it more from jammers!
