I agree. I reviewed LTE in my college magazine; and when it came out,
the [rap/punk/R&B fan] editor had inserted all these snide
comments, along the lines of: "This band have no right to exist,
because not only are they capable of playing their instruments, but -
how DARE they! - they actually DO play them!". This seemed very silly
to me. You wouldn't tell Picasso to stop being self-indulgent and get
back to painting flowers. You might think that Fear & Loathing In Las
Vegas is a load of directionless toss (I ceartainly do), but that
doesn't give you the right to dismiss the right of the director to
make it. You'd never find people palming off meaningless and trite
abuse in any other field of the arts, so why do they get away with it
in music? I hate Simply Red, but they're signed to EastWest, and they
sell a shit load of records. Thus EastWest has more money to spend on
developing new bands, not to mention supporting Tori and DT. It's
just that they can't be arsed most of the time.
The same guy later told me that the guitar was out-of-date and
cliched because it had been on 90% of all the records made in the
last 50 years. Okay...This from a RAP fan. RAP, which consists of
VOICE and DRUMS, yes? Which - and feel free to argue here - have been
on 99.9999999999999% of all records made in the last 50 years, and
have been in use for thousands of years before the guitar was even
    invented...
My problem with rap fans is that they really do talk shit. And for the
last time, Mariah Carey/Honeyz/En Vogue and all that other rubbish is
NOT R&B. R&B stands for Rhythm and Blues, not "sugared, bland,
slightly hip-hop/soul flavoured trash". Oh wait, maybe they mean
    Rubbish & Boring...fair enough.

    Hi again folks,
Seems to me that everyone's been going through their master list of
groovy guitar players, and saying "Wouldn't it be SO COOL if we had
    <---> in the band??"
Fact: DT do not need a second guitarist at all. However, I can hear
that it wouldn't hurt on occaision to hire a rhythm guitar player
for the live shows on some songs. Listen to Voices on OIaL if you
don't believe me. Just to beef up the sound.
The only person I can think of who really fits the bill is Mike
Keneally, but I'm not exactly up on US session rhythm guitarists. I
    dunno, can JLB play guitar...?

Hey, just wanted to comment on all the MIME crap that's been flooding
the jam lately. Hell, I don't even know what it actually is, but it's
annoying as fuck. I understand some people (like Neil Gallop) don't
have much choice, and that really sucks...but it still sends all that
stuff to the jam, and it needs to stop. I was thinking if you send MIME
stuff to the jam all the time, through no fault of your own, a solution
could be to get deskmail or hotmail (yeah, hotmail) or any of the other
web based email services temporarily till your MIME problem gets
straightened out. It would help decrease clutter on the jam...keep in
mind I don't know much about this stuff, but I would think that would
work. If not, then I hope someone else comes up with a better
suggestion to deal with this. 'Cause I really want to read Neil's
    reviews soon (no sarcasm intended).

Why should we bug Skadz to write a script to do something like that?
People should have the common sense to make sure that their mail
programs don't send out MIME shit to begin with. It's a flat out waste
of bandwidth that doesn't belong in a mailing list forum. Almost all of
the current mail programs have utilities that will send out different
mail formats to different recipients. If you are one of the MIME
culprits, edjucate yourself. If you are going to send out e-mail, learn
what you're sending out. Plain and simple. Don't waste our bandwidth,
because you're too ignorant to learn your own computer.

These 2 viruses are hoaxes. See http://ciac.llnl.gov/ciac/CIACHoaxes.html

That page also contains a few tips for ppl who wanna warn the rest of us
about viruses. One of them is NEVER send out such a warning unless you're
absolutely sure it's for real. If you have any doubts about a warning
you received or its source, do nothing. At the very least, you should
check virus-hoax pages on the Web before sending out a warning to the

What albums would you suggest to buy first ? In my local CD store I found the Yes album "Tormato" and the Marillion's "Read to Reed" or something like this (Sorry for the errors in the titles but I just don't remember them correctly) and "La Gazza Ladra"... What about them ? Are they worth buying ? Thanx in advance I'd prefer personal replies, 'cause I don't always have the time to read the Jam and in order not to waste bandwidth. Thanx

    Greetings ye 'jamanoids...

I've updated the Glass Hammer website at http://www.glasshammer.com/ with some more new stuff. Some of you GH fanatics may be interested in the following bits of info about the new disc, "Faith and Reason":

-- The band is finished recording the lead vocals. -- Yesterday Steve spoke with Dr. Thomas Hammit (formerly of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and a protege of the late Robert Shaw). Dr. Hammit will be conducting the Glass Hammer choir. -- Featured members of the choir may include a soprano from the Metropolitan Opera. Notable roles she has played include the lead in West Side Story (she was handpicked by Bernstein for this role). Steve hasn't mentioned her name yet because he wants to make sure she can commit to the appearance. -- And, finally, the best saved for last: Prog-rockers rejoice! The talented Dutch musician Arjen A. Lucassen, best known for his work with Ayreon, will be making a guest appearance on "Faith and Reason"!

DTC: Um.....Walter from Glass Hammer loves Dream Theater (and Spock's Beard, and King's X...hehehe).

    ta, Phil
