More of an early power metal band back then. The guitar styles were
incredibly different. John Arch is inferior to Dickenson (though superior
to D'Anno even though I love the first 2 IM albums) but sings totally
different. There's only the one song on CT where he gets a similar sound
at all.
As for QR, I believe Ray Alder was influenced by QR. By Geoff
Tate to be specific. You need influences like that if you aspire to be
that type of singer and do not want to take any vocal lessons. Again
though, No Exit is MUCH heavier than QR... completely, It also shows a
totally different writing style, what with the idea of epic songs and all.
After no Exit, at Perfect Symmetry, they branch off further.
Here's where you might want to say the DT influence came about. But I
challenge you. It's my opinion that THEY influenced DT. Matheos's
writing style has changed only slightly in form since the PS days. Ray's
voice has only deepened. There has been no further DT clone possibility
on the band. FW was around playing this style before DT was.

I'd assume this is absolutely impossible, unless you are planning
to spend $5-10000 for just your wedding band. These guys probably still
wouldn't do it... it'd be awefully weird to expect a big band to do your
wedding, unless you have some strings to pull. It would make bad press
for the band, and they'd have to feel silly playing it. Maybe Portnoy
will write to the jam and tell me "No... we'd love to play your wedding"
but I think it's more a pipe dream than a possibility.
What you COULD do, however, if you guys are total freaks, is
perhaps aim the wedding for the day of a DT show in your area (meaning
you'll have to plan the wedding, and then you'll have maybe 2-3 months
tops to get your church or what not for the ceremony). If you worked at
the guys in the band, and they believe you for some reason, I bet you
could get VIP passes so you could meet the band afterward, etc.

Cakewalk will allow limited scoring (and they have cheap cakewalk
editions that you can get for next to nothing) or Finale if you really
want a powerful scoring utility. There's a few versions of this software
availiable as well. Do a little web searching. There's a lot available.
You may even find something satisfactory at harmonycentral.com in their DL
section.
As for a keyboard for your PC, assuming you're buying a new
computer with a GOOD sound card in it, you might as well get a midi
controller, and not a full keyboard, especially if you were thinking of
getting something like a Casio or something like that. You can get the
Rolan PC 200 for around $150-200 which is a very good controller with full
size keys and good action, but its shallow so that it can take up as
little space as possible on your desk. It also has pitch bend and mod and
a lot of useful controls.

Hey, gang! It's been a while, but I'm happy to say that my computer
at home is all hooked up and I'm back on line. So the good news (or
bad news, depending on how you look at it :) is that I'll be around
more to complain, nit-pick, and crack wiseass jokes.
Also, I want to let everyone in the area know that I have joined a new
band called Mind Control, and we're playing our first show on Friday,
March 19th at the All Aboard Pub in Ronkonkoma, LI, NY. Anyone who's
a fan of DT, Rush, Yes, etc., I think would have a good time watching
us. We're opening for another proggy band (whom I've never heard - I
don't even remember their name), so it'll be an all around night of
prog fun. Hope to see some of you there.

there was a lot of trouble about the statement from Cybeduke and I think
a lot of the response was unreflected. Even if very important:
The USA are not the world +ACEAIQ-
I hate statements like +ACI-If you want work, you get it+ACI- because it is so
universal. It maybe right in the situation the author lives, but please do
not generalize. Here in Germany the economic situation is quite well,
compared with a lot of other countries it is pretty good. But even here live
people in poverty, and this is not always there fault. You cannot generally
blame people for their lifes because it has so much to do with luck. You are
born in a middle-class family, get good education, therefore a good job, but
what if you are born in a fucking getto? Your fault? What if you are
disabeld, have an accident or you are simply born in a poor country?
Your fault??? I think no, and i hope all of you agree+ACE- And, if you have a
really hard life, you need something to fill it, something that makes you
forget problems for a while and i think that music can do a lot. It is
better than getting drunk or drug addicted.
Example from rich germany:
Im right now doing my Zivildienst ( all boys in germany have to join the
army
or do social service for one year ) and im working with people who are
mentally ill ( kind of insane ), people with low intellect and alcoholics.
This are all people who cannot work in the outside world. They earn 100 DM
50 dollars) a month +ACE- They get food for free and some of them also an
appartment, but that is all. Enough ??? Life is more than eat and work and
sleep, at least it should be more+ACE-
If one of this guys would buy a cd, he would spent more than 1/3 of his wage
for it. But they also need clothes, drinks, have to pay the bus.
There is no money left for cds, sorry. Their fault??
In december i was in argentina, to get a fucking supermarket job you need
relations+ACEAIQ- You have to work for the money they offer, there are hundred
people behind you waiting for this job. And Argentina has one of the best
economies in south america+ACE-
You see, it is not so easy, if it is for you ok, but there enough people
that do not have the luck+ACEAIQAh- to be in this position and that is not their
fault+ACEAIQ-
Until today i had the luck to be in a good financial position, i work for my
money and my parents also supply me. But im always aware that there are a
lot of people in the whole world who work harder than me but who are not as
lucky as i am, which reasons ever+ACE- So be grateful ( and a little bit proud )
of what you have and how you got it, but do not take is as general.
This is not a pro-rape article, it is just the try to point out that not
everybody is able to achieve something if he will. To judge if copying is
right or wrong would need a long research with a long discussion, the topic
is not easy.
Another point from my personal opinion:
All my cds are original, nothing raped. Before i buy a cd, i listen to every
fucking song on it, because 30DM (16-17 dollars) for just 2 good songs is
too much. If a cd would be 10 DM, i would have three times more cds because
than i wouldn+ALQ-t care for some not so good tracks on it. I would by three,
cut the best tracks and burn it on another cd.
Perhaps industry should think about it, much more people would buy original
cds instead of copy it, because a fine artwork is still admired.

That's an idea of Justin, a guy who wanted to start a band but he
couldn't find any musicians near his place of living.
So, there's a brand new forum dedicated to musicians who want to join or
start a band. You could post your message there,
read others' messages and maybe someone or a band was near you and you
just didn't know.
That's also the ideal place for bands that need musicians. Post your
request of members there and probably someone will reply.

I figured someone on here has probably heard this band. They seem to be a
little on the progressive side, so see if anyone here can help me!!!
Just perusing through my CD's to find something that I haven't listened to
recently (just bought a new CD player, finally), and came across the CD
"Damn the Machine" by the same band. At first I thought, "what the hell is
this?" So I opened up the case and saw the name Chris Poland. Then the
cogs and wheels in my head started spinning, then it hit me, "oh yeah! He
used to be in Megadeth!!" So I popped it in, still not able to recall what
it sounded like. Boy was I surprised!!! It kicks some serious ass!!!!
Anyone remember this one/have any info on them? Are they still together and
releasing new music? Are they still the same? I can't believe I forgot
about this one. It will get played a lot now!!!

I can imagine a lot of more interesting things, like DT being in the studio, the release of LTE 2, stuff like that.
I don't need a whole album of uninspired DT covers. I like cover versions as long as the covering artist creates something new without losing the respect for the original. Most of these bands weren't able to do something new on their *own* albums, and I don't believe they suddenly start being original.
And don't hold your breath waiting for this tribute CD, maybe it will never happen. So far it sounds as if this small label is using the whole tribute thing just for publicity.

I go for that too! No matter where you hear GK, they become boring very soon! They might play good guitars, but their music is soooooo commericial, and made for "the public" ears! Nothing special, and not so inventive, IMHO.
If you want real Spanish / Flamenco guitars check Paco De Lucia, Segovia. I dunno how good it to recomend Friday Night in SF since this is the shred of the century, and person really can't get into the whole flamenco vibe out of it! :) -- CyberDuke
