    > the upside) is pretty good! If after these you still don't like them I

Soundgarden was never a grunge band, more like a metal band with some
Seattle influence, which can't be avoided when you are coming from the
very town. Badmotorfinger sounds a lot more like Black Sabbath than Alice
In Chains. Superunknown stretches even farther out of that realm.

<<Unfortunately, I also decided from that CD that it wouldn't be worth it
to buy any of the original albums, because I got the hunch that in any
given time period, the band just emulated another band of that period.
First IM, then QR, then DT, to make it inaccurately simple. But aside
from that, I do like the music, and I might one of these days go get
parallels or inside out. APSOG was certainly original, btw.>>

I have to disagree with that. Although they are obviously influenced by those
bands, and they do have their similarities, they don't fail to make their own
mark. The way they play is different then that of Dream Theater's and just
because the vocalist voice bears some likenesses to that of Geoff Tate's does
not make him unoriginal. Maiden!!! Well, maybe I have a different CT than you
do. Listen to I & W from DT and Parallels from Fates...they really don't
sound at all alike. Or FII and Inside Out...nope. Fates Warning are an
original band. They have a great sound that you can't take away from them by
saying its not their sound. Thank you for your time.

You know, all I can say to this is: I hope you never, EVER have
kids. The thought that you think it's okay to teach kids that if they
can't afford something, then it's okay to steal it makes my skin
    crawl.

I have a dughter, and she wants stuff all the time. I'm lucky enough
that so far, I've have been able to provide anything she needed or
wanted. That doesn't mean I DID provide it, just that I COULD have.
There's a HUGE difference between providing something that a
child needs (a home, medical care, and education), and something
that they want (a Hanson album). I sincerely hope you understand
    that.

i am sure this sounds totally foolish to may of you but i will post my request
any how and see what happens......
last december, in '97 i went to my 3rd DT show at the Masquerade in Ybor City,
Florida. as at the other two before it, and the one after it, i was
completely in awe - i was the chick in the front row in front of JP and i have
a majesty tat on my arm...anyway....
i ended up meeting a guy there, who i am still with...and even though it only
started with a DT show we discovered that we had a lot more in common than
    prog rock....and are *engaged* (yay!)
and i guess my question to you all is this: we have decided we want DT to
play at whatever sort of reception we end up having - more likely than not
just a big ass party of some sort....does anyone have any thoughts on this,
whether or not the guys would be interested.....or if they would schedule a
show around the time we choose? not until this summer or next,
probably.....id there ANY remote chance of any of this???
on list or private email is fine but i will say private will likely get read
    as opposed to accidentally deleted....

    thanks
    Nicole

    >>< And for my money, Pearl Jam is a quality band ><
    >And the drummer and lead guitarist can be real good at times. Songs
    >like Black, Better Man, I Got Id and Yellow Ledbetter are far above
    average,

I have to agree, but almost all of those songs feature different
    drummers-
    "Black"- Dave Krusen
    "Better Man"- Dave Abbruzzesse
    "I Got ID"- Jack Irons
"Yellow Ledbetter"- Um, I dunno the answer to this question. I think it
was Dave Krusen, but I really don't know.

Speaking of PJ, I love all of their albums immensely, but for some
reason I've been playing almost nothing but Ten (the first, most popular
album) the past few days. If it wasn't that, it was eitehr DT's I&W or
    ACOS CDs. Screwy...

Id like to personally shake the hand of the guy who mentioned Andres' Segovia.
ive played dozens of pieces by him. I think he's the man. he's famous for
writing studies that really help your weaker hand develop ( ex. Estudio #5 )
fully on a classical guitar. word's been out, and there's a classical guitar
competition and a few master classes next weekend ( friday morning through
sunday evening ) in Boaz, Alabama. im not sure what pieces my group and i will
play for the competition, but i think we're focusing on Segovia's works .
Flamingo, flaminco, or classical. good luck!

I've got three boots that I'm selling. I wanted to give other jammers a chance
    before putting them on Ebay.

    Majesty - Acoustic Dreams #218
    Dream Theater - Majestic Harmonies
    Dream Theater - Instrumental II

E-mail all bids to me at ttubbiola@aol.com

I don't normally sell things like this, but I'm in a crunch for cash.

    :Hi everyone,
:I'm sort of a lurker, but I'm on IRC a lot so this is my first post in
    a
    :while.
    :
:I found a DT CD called Lords of Sound in a little CD store in Boston.
    I
:got the Majesty demo there for 15$. Good deal IMHO, but they want 50$
:for the LoS one. It's a 2 disc set. Does anyone own this? or can
:anyone tell me if it's worth 50$? Thanx.
    :
    :"Wild" Bill

Yeah, I found that bood when I was traveling through Java in a dirty
city called Surabaya. They didn't have any of DT cds except this boot.
Ofcourse I bought it, because it only went for 5$ or so. But 50$???
That's way too much for it. I mean it's pretty nice boot, sound quality
is pretty good, but setlist is nothing special, nor can I think of
anything special about the songs performed. Get yourself a couple nice
legitimate cds for this price instead of this italian scalp.

You probably already got replies for this... I'm a bit late... if you
really do want to try and pay for these first, try CD-NOW. If you're
ordering 3 or 4 at a time, the postage is lower per disc, and I think once
you get this many, you actually save money on Australian prices. Only takes
about a week to get here, and you're not depriving any artists of their
    rightful income! :)

Not to bring up on out-of-date thread, but I've been meaning to answer
the question posed to stump the jam.

    The song that goes:
    Never enough, yeah
    Never enough, yeah
Come on, take it all the way
Never e nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah
    Take it all the way

It's by a band by the name of "Econoline Crush"

    ------

    Now for something completely different...

I've been meaning to maybe buy a computer. One of them new-fangled
Pentium III types. (I'm on my work's computer right now.)

After checking out the ytseradio site and looking at NetRadio's
expanding channels (They have a progressive rock channel right now, and
promise to get into the many varied genres of metal soon), I'm excited
at the prospect of owning a computer that creates and plays music.

    Back in high-school, I wrote a 4-piece score for a little 5-minute song.
It was for 2 trumpets, 1 trombone and 1 tuba. The problem is: I've
never heard it! Imagine spending hours on something and never hearing
the result! (I'd planned on somehow getting some friends together to
play it live, but it never worked out.) Now I sit here 7 years later
and I still have the score, but I still would LOVE to hear what it
    sounds like!

So I pose my question... What is a software out there that would allow
me to easily punch in the notes and hear my creation? At the same time,
I would like it to be powerful. Something user-friendly but powerful
enough to keep me satisfied for quite some time. I don't want to grow
out of it, but also don't want to be intimidated by it. Ya know?

I know basic keyboard chords, so some sort of MIDI-interface wouldn't
hurt either, but I don't own a keyboard and don't plan on investing in a
terribly expensive one if I do plan on going the MIDI-route.

So there's my problem: What's some good mid-range music software, and
what's a good mid-range keyboard that would work well with it? How much
    would they cost?

    Suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

    - Dr. Teeth

Sorry, but these guys have become the almost obligatory soundtrack in every
spanish resteraunt I've ever eaten in ( and a good few italian and french
resteraunts too). Beleive me, it may sound good at first but it sooon
