There is a program called Noteworthy Composer that i have been using for a
logn time. It's really good program. It's available at www.ntworthy.com .
It's shareware, but you can find the serial number anywhere (I'll even send
it to ya if you want..). Hope that helps. =)

    Greetings ye 'jamanoids...

More on the flamingo guitar thing from Madsman:
    >People like Ottmar Leibert (who is talented but writes
    >some pieces that are too cliche, even in a genre that often specifically
    >TRIES to be cliche) and Jesse Cook (who may arguably not be using true
    >flamenco technique.... some of his licks sound way too precisely picked,
    >like DiMeola) who are readily available and HUGE successes (they can be
    >found at just about ANY music store) wouldn't be playing the way they do if
    >it weren't for Paco. [DeLucia]

Okay, I'll go along with this, but just wanted to clarify that Jesse
doesn't use a pick, or at least doesn't live. I've seen him play live from
the front row and it's all fingerstyle, no pick to be seen anywhere.

Another: I can't believe no one has mentioned Andres Segovia yet. Segovia
may have more classical overtones than flamenco overtones, but there's lots
    of flamenco flavor in there.

Another: Jesse's fellow label-mate Oscar Lopez. More great flamenco stuff.

    >Calvin has scored big time with his LTE video. [Kickass review snipped]

grrr..../me gnaws on his own liver, waiting for the 'tage video another
Ytse (thanks, Harmon) made for him so he can offer that to Calvin in
    trade......

Let me start by saying that that was a very well thought out post. One
of the better ones on the 'jam lately. Scroll down for my
    interjections.

    >I think it is a problem of both sides, industry and people.
    >People don=B4t want to listen music, they just don=B4t want silence.
    >In every supermarket and fashion shop they are playing the charts
    >in backround, mostly songs you can sing after 2 or 3 times listening.
    >If you would listen, you would be bored very fast (IMO).

I have to agree. Stuff like the Spice Girls and The Backstreet Boys
works if you only listen to them as background noise. DT aren't
background noise. You need to carefully listen to them and what they
do. Being that they're the kind of band they are, they'll never be in
the same league of fame with Madonna. But I'll get to that in a sec.

    >DT will never have the attention of "the world".
    >The mass doesn=B4t want songs over 4.00 minutes with more than
    >a simple melody, 3 or 4 chords and a straight drum. That would
    >be not comfortable to listen (consume). I took a friend of mine
    >to the concert in Bonn ( he is drummer in an alternative rock band),
    >he was just standing there, mouth and eyes open, staring at MP.
    >(me too :) ). After the concert he told me how great it was, how
    >good... ; but he also told me that he couldn=B4t listen to DT often
    >because it would be to hard to follow the music!!

Exactly! DT are way too complex to have MASS exposure. It's just not
possible. And the truth is I wouldn't have it any other way. I don't
want DT to appear on MTV playing a 2.5 minute song with lyrics about
nothing and a cheesy and pointless guitar solo. I like my heros with
their dignity intact. I'm glad we agree on this point, or seem to.

    >I think even if industry want to make prog pop, they would not be
    >able to. You can make people do a lot, but just if they want or
    >if they don=B4t care, never if they don=B4t want in any way.

I think prog is intelligent music and you kinda need to keep an open
mind and listen to the same song a few times before cultivating an
opinion. I can't picture the girls at my school jamming DT, even if
    it's "Pull Me Under". Anyways...

    >I don't know if it is advantage or not that bands like DT are
    >"underground", but it is like this and it will not change before
    > people do not change their way of "consuming".

It is definitley an advantage that DT are sort of an underground band.
They have the kind of fame that I'd want to have if I was involved in
music- well known to my fans, but mainly spared the bullshit of being a
    bullshit pop act.

I've got one of his albums (can't remember the title right now, but's
it's the onw with Tony Levin on it). It's pretty good as long as you are
not looking for the correct technique (I'm a drummer and so I don't know if
he is using the correct technique for the genre). The one ting that
irritates me to no end though is the electronic bass drum in the
background. Sounds like he's trying to mix flamenco and techno music
together. Just sounds way to fake to me, but then again I'm a drummer and
something like that will stick out to me like a sore thumb, others may not
    mind it so much.

    Hi everyone,
I'm sort of a lurker, but I'm on IRC a lot so this is my first post in a
    while.

I found a DT CD called Lords of Sound in a little CD store in Boston. I
got the Majesty demo there for 15$. Good deal IMHO, but they want 50$
for the LoS one. It's a 2 disc set. Does anyone own this? or can
anyone tell me if it's worth 50$? Thanx.

hey jammers. i bought the newest edition of Electronic Musician, and this
month's issue had a free CD rom ( which explains why it was wrapped like a
straight jacket at the store ), and its called CoolEditPro ( by syntrillium
software corporation ). while the CDrom is free, the entire program ( with
tax, 8 % where im from ) is about $440 total. the CD is pretty awesome ( but
the tutorial is almost an hour. ). i suggest you check it out. its a nice way
to have your own recording studio in a CD.

    Yeah baby!
These guys are awesome. I stumbled upon them in the unlikeliest of all
ways - I walked into my house and my mother (my MOTHER, who doesn't listen
to ANY of the stuff I do, not even the - agreed, limited - softer stuff)
was blaring it in the kitchen. I walked in the door and basically had to
start dancing. :) Anyways, great tunes produced by these guys, great
melodies, grooves, beats, whatever, just all-out fun... plus I just love
Spanish so that was an extra plus. Two great big thumbs up. Go, and buy,
my children. As opposed to go and buy my children. This comes from a
metalhead. Take it as you will.

I don't know how anyone can call Ottmar Leibert or Nova Menko true
Flamenko music. To me, and yes, I emphasize the *me*, Flamenko always has
an element of emotion, fire, and technique. Neither Leibert or NM do
either of these things IMO. To me, it's as iff a couple of high school
freshmen took guitar lessons for 2 years and decidedto put out alboms.
It's the Kenny G epidemic. Easy listening shit! Can you tell I feel a
bit strongly? Yes? Good. Be well.

Okay... I bought 2 cds today (had a lil cash influx)

Eidolon (DAMN! There goes a cool band name that I might have found on my
own!) Their album is available on Pulse Records (through Impulsemusic.com)
and features King Diamond's guitarist: Glen Drover. You thought you liked
Andy LaRoque better? Check this madman's playing OUT! He's a bad ass. He
has a real Randy Rhoads guitar tone... and you won't believe what he's using
for ampage... ask me after you hear them somewhere. It's a riot!
Overall, the album needs a bit of help, IMO. The guitar playing is
massive and totally worth hearing. The vocals are mixed poorly, and the
singer, while having a decent voice, sounds like he needs to work out some
of his intervals better. There's a lot of harmonic minor based vocal lines
that tend to get sloppy. The drums sound like drum machine... I'm almost
positive that's what they are. The album is cheap, and most of your
guitarists will appreciate it a great deal, but as for being a strong BAND,
I think they need a bit of work, IMO. I guess I'd rate it at 6/10, with all
6 being earned by virtue of the great guitars

Gordian Knot: I've been a Cynic fan since the release of their album years
ago (I saw an ad for it and assumed I'd like it... works for me!) I have
been lucky in my time around here to have seen them open for Cannibal
Corpse, and have seen several bootleg videos and met Sean Malone in Florida
(where I learned about this project). Gordian Knot is immense. This album
can fill you up! I mean... it's so emotional and moody... beautiful unique
creativity.... this kind of album is rare... no formula, like a Dream
Theater song or something like that (which I of course love... this just has
a different and unique charm). Malone and Reinert make this one happen, and
the Myung appearances are pretty cool too, just to have him playing stick.
Overall: atmosphere, soul, passion, technique, melody, creativity....
this album is a rare find indeed! This is on a must have par with guys like
Ron Thal... 180 degrees different, but that level of inspirational
creativity, and masterful execution. You really should all buy this cd
immediately and listen while zoning out. It will fill you up. 10/10

Vai, Flexable Leftovers: Fuck yourself (people with this album are aleardy
doing it). This should have been released readily when I was listening to
Flexable at 11 years old. This album could have changed the course of my
life entirely. This is freedom in music... doing whatever the hell he
wanted, without having to play serious. Vai always preached the old Frank
Zappa value of keeping the humor in the music... but if you can faul Vai,
it's the fact that some of his stuff tends to get too serious at times. You
build up so much tension during songs like For The Love of God... you almost
NEED to listen to the old Vai tunes to calm yourself and release.
Baffling guitar and compositional work. Revoltingly entertaining lyrics
and studio techniques. This would be SOOO hard to recreate, regardless of
what filters you have on your Sound Forge, or what recording gear you have.
It's a testament to both performance creativity and production creativity.
I have nothing but good things to say about this album. I wish all of Vai's
albums had this kind of balls of steel and this amount of passion (though he
rarely lacks in that department, when it comes to a beautiful guitar solo)
You all need this album too. Get it now. 10/10

    > Alright, you know what _really_ pisses me off: its people whining and > complaining about how hard they have it in life and that they somehow > deserve a break more than most people. That is such a liberal view > of things, and kids, it is TOTALLY WRONG! You don't have the > money to buy the CD's, tough nads!

I never whinned. I just used the facts to explain the situation better.

    > But I try to buy my fave CDs,

    Same as I do too!

    > >I CANNOT find the music I like in my country! > This is foolishness. I challenge anyone to disprove the fact > that we now live in a global economy. If you can read the jam > you can probably order any CD.

I would love to see you come here and live with your global economy trick! Oh yeah btw, be my guest, come here and order something.

    > And you're saying that since everyone is doing it, then it > should be acceptable.

Never said that! 'Cause I don't approve that kind of behaviour too.

    > >ago - "Ppl slowly realise that music is becoming what is supposed > >to be - free!" Think about this kinda philosophical concept! > > Well, here is where we agree completly. Don't get me wrong, I > completly support the extended and unrestricted use of MP3's > and their distribution over the internet. I believe this > will make the industry realize that free or really really > cheap music _is_ the way to go.

So why are we fighting then? I never said I rip to MP3s all music I lay my hands on! If all the CDs were chepaer I would buy them. I buy them even now, cause it's anyway cooler to have the originally manufactured CD, with the nice paper booklet inside, graphics on the CD surface itself indtead of plain green ...

    > So yes, music is supposed to be free. BUT you can't use > that as a rationalization for pirating music through MP3's. Agreed. But I will just say this: If I choose between buying a pirate CD here (which is not fave I would like to have it) or having a chance to get it 3 years later - Thank you, I will choose #1!

Exactly my point!!! And how about bonus hit: We don't have credit cards here neither. So how am I supposed to pay for the CD? I once experienced someone e-mailing me that he put some money in the package he sent me, and when I got the package - NO Money! Try it folks, it can be valuable life experience! And don't you try to say my country sucks for being thiefes (The "Life is hard, baby!" comment). Even if that's the case (and it really might be) you CAN NOT stop me listening music and trying finding it just because I live here! You thing you can? Have fun playing a dictator! I don't care.

    > Taping has been around forever, and it hasn't hurt the music industry.

    Voila!!!!! Bravo Brian!

And on the end, DID I EVER SAID THAT I RIP EVERYBODY??? DID I MENTIONED in any line that all my music is pirate?? No! So stop arguing on stupid topics, I was just commenting that things might not be that simple.

If you couldn't get what I mean: Yes it is!

    > This doesn't really give an impression of poor, poor Macedonian > students starving to death while struggling with problems bigger > than life itself. It gives an impression of greedy and selfish > buggers. I'm not trying to insult you but that's what it sounds like.

Well than I guess I'm sorry if it sounded like that! I just put extreme cases to catch the meaning.

    > >????????? Disgusted????? Can't it be that he was > >speaking the truth? > > So what if he was speaking the truth? If he can't afford it he > doesn't buy it and doesn't listen to it. Money's not an excuse.

Oh yeah? Just like that? Tell that to your kid (for example) when he ask you to buy him that cute new Hanson album, and all you have is 5$ in the pocket. Tough! The regular price is 20$ but you find a pirate one for 4$. The kid . What to do? Of course, beat the kid.

I would love to see the power of will while being drowned in all the pirate stuff here. It's easy to speak when you have it all OK there. Try looking at OIALT Bulgarian pirate CD for 7$ and not buying it! Yes, I did that!!! Pal from America is supposed to send it to me, and still didn't! After almost half year after it's released! :( But maybe this is impossible to comprehend for any US ppl! 'Cause it's not even close to your worst nightmare. Me whining or complaining? NO, just pointing out the different sides of it. But why would you care, when you can have the OIATL the day it comes out, or even getting promo copy 2 months earlier? All you can do is sit back, play OIALT CD and reply on the MP3s thread!

    > >The Grunge thing was quite big and brought great fresh blood: > >Soundgarden (pioneers) > > I've heard only a few of their songs but I want to hear more before > I rush into any conclusions. Perhaps you'd like to recommend > something from these guys. ..or perhaps after my post you wouldn't...

Actually no, and here you go: Try Superunknown or Bad Motor Finger first! IMHO, those are their best 2 albums, having all an grunge album should have! Also the last one (Down on the upside) is pretty good! If after these you still don't like them I guess SG is not your type of music! Naturally, in that case I would whole-heartedly allow you to get few SG MP3s of the songs you hapened to like anyway! :P -- CyberDuke
