    Hey everyone,

I went to the first 4 shows of the mini-tour. I recorded them all. (except
for 4 songs near the end of the show in New Haven when my microphones
    somehow unplugged themselves. :P)

    ANYWAYS...

I won't say too much about the shows because:
            a. it's probably already been said by someone else.
            b. I say everything on my new Dream Theater web site

That's right! The snowstorm in Chicago made me stay home one day so
    I could work on stuff.

So, I urge all of you to check out http://dreamtheater.mit.edu/
otherwise known as Dream Theater - Lines in the Sand!

Why should you check out this site? The main reason is because it will
bring the DT trading community closer together. Once you register with
the site (registering is harmless....just your name and email addy), you
can add any DT show ever performed to your collection if you have it.

By adding a show to your collection, others who register with the web site
can see that you have a show they might want and can email you about
    setting up a trade.

That is the whole concept behind the site.

In addition, I have every Dream Theater set list through 1996 on this site.
I am currently working on getting all of 1997 and 1998 right now, so I
apologize for the fact that those shows aren't up yet. I have all the dates
and cities for 1997-98, and I'll at least try to get those up ASAP.

Anyways, I know all of you are curious as to how you can get Where
Are You Now? live from Irving Plaza on MP3. If you register with Lines in
the Sand and go to the Audio section, you will gain access to downloading
    the web site.

Yes, it's an evil way to get you people to go to my site, but I need some
reason for you to visit my site!

If you have questions about the site, email me. I'm trying to make my best
effort towards making trading among DT fans much easier for all of us.

I just picked up three new CD's tonight...

    Superior - "Younique"
    Royal Hunt - "Moving Target"
Bruce Dickinson - "The Chemical Wedding"

Here's what I think, so far..

Younique: Not bad... I need more listening time with this one. It
Didn't blow me away like "Behind," But I'm sure it will grow on me.

Moving Target: Royal Hunt is KILLER! This was my first RH purchase.
(I highly doubt it will be my last) I like it!

The Chemical Wedding: I haven't listened yet. :( I'm sure Bruce will kick
my ass. I've been reading the reviews on the Jam, so I figured I couldn't
go wrong. I like "Accident of Birth" This should be a natural.

Have I told you that Royal Hunt kicks my Ytse-ass?

Is this a dropped D tuning ? That's not so high. Maybe your strings weren't stretched enough. When you put on new strings you have to pull them away from the fingerboard, then tune them again, until the stretching stops causing the notes to go flat.

Hey all. If the the dubbing of officially-released material makes you go into spasms of morality, please skip to the next post. If anyone out there doesn't lose their lunch at the prospect of this sort of thing, please read on.

I'm looking for a CDR dub of the following Dream Theater rarities. I should point out that what I want are dubs of the actual tracks, *not* the MP3s - I've got those already. MP3s are great to give you an idea of the music, but, as of now, very few of them are actually *as good* as a real never-compressed recording. Swishy cymbals, for instance -- who needs those? Anyhow, the stuff I want...

]From the EP 'Live Bonus Tracks': 1. Caught In A Web '96 (live) 2. Take Away My Pain (live) 3. Burning My Soul (live) 4. Another Hand / The Killing Hand (live) ]From the 'Lie' single: 5. To Live Forever 6. Another Day (live) ]From the Japanese version of 'Falling Into Infinity': 7. Speak To Me 8. Cover My Eyes 9. Take Away My Pain (demo)

All of the above tracks are from items I either missed out on buying when they were available or because they were limited release.

I'm also looking for CDR dubs of echolyn's first two albums, both very out-of-print.

In return, I can supply blank CDRs + postage, or, CDR dubs (just got a CD-burner last week) of assorted bootlegs. See my bootpage (URL below) for more info on those. Please send any replies privately so as to prevent my ass from getting excessive public disturbance flame-damage. Domo arigato.

I know the subject of fast guitar playing is well covered on this list already, but I'm going to ask this question anyway. It was said on http://www.stevemorse.com that JP, on AOE, picks 32nd notes at around 200bpm. I'm not much of a musician, but my uneducated guess always put him playing 16th notes at around 215bpm, significantly slower. So, to anyone who knows (probably Ptacek among others), who's guess is better?

Joe, your comments (and thanks for the reply...) only highlight my original questions. Why should the sound be so drastically different in the SAME venue on different dates???? Can anybody answer this one? We all know that DT's live sound can be outstanding so why the blips?

Folks, I guess all the good wishes towards AyameYuki are working just fine ;)

DTC: I heard from a reliable souce (involved in the album) that the James LaBrie solo album recordings have been going on for a little while now. Most of the songwriting was done by some very well known people from your favorite Magna Carta bands. I was surprised how they kept it a secret for this long, I would think the hype would actually help album sales. No release date yet as far as I know, I just thought I'd let people know that it could be out sooner than most people expect it - if the people involved don't have to stop too frequently to do things with their own bands (or somebody doesn't get too much into perfectionism heheheh).

    Waiting anxiously for LTE II...

-oOo- This is interesting stuff, and I'm sure Richie Rivera will be able to give his industry views, but it's essentially the same issue that George Michael had with Sony. Record labels make artists sign multi-album contracts at the beginning of their careers, so that if the particular artist is the one hit among the ten misses, the profit on the hit performers will repay the marketing costs of the misses. George Michael objected to getting such a low percentage of his later albums when he was a star artist, but hey, he was a grown-up and he signed a contract. If he could have found a label which believed in him more, he should have signed with them. If anyone thinks they can start a label which can give as good promotion and distribution while offering better terms to artists, they should do so.

That's the status quo. If the internet is easy enough to use so that consumers can find the stuff they're interested in without all the promotion that labels do now, good luck to the MP3ers. But the Spice Girls and their like are always going to need more than the internet alone can give them, so the labels will still be around.

As for this Silicon Alley Reporter and his Radiohead download-for-free idea, I don't think 'well, they'll get money from me 'cause I'm in a city and can go to their gigs and buy T-shirts - oh, and I might tell my friends' is a business model that's going to interest artists or labels. Expect a lot more site suppression by the copyright holders.

hi all, one of the coolest things of the last 10 jams: Chris goes out to make us learn.(Finding the synestesia url). I appreciate that. You made Birch Hill more bearable.

Christina, I didn't realize you were Christina, but I'm glad we met anyway. I like Event by the way. I haven't gotten really into it(because thanks to 800.com I have 10 new cd's to choose from and there was x-mas), but the sound sounds very professional and that's no minus.

Trevor, I'm waiting for Destiny as well, since 10/17 I believe...

12th notes, Mirror in C, I trying to make up something as hilarious as that, but maybe I'm not creative enough. Japanese when you play Hell's Kitchen backwards? I saw John Myung telling a joke? That's too obvious. Well I want to share the thought at the beginning of December, when we had 70 degrees."I'll always remember, the chill of November"

Very funny, does anybody have used Hockey equipment, that he wants to sell or give away?

For NY area. When I went to Revolver Records in the city on Sunday, they has a studio recording of early MSG with BILLY SHEEHAN. A couple of jams from 1978 I believe. The store is on 8th street west between 5th and 6th ave.
