We don't have these here. No rock stations.:( We have some kinda stations
that broadcast evergreen songs from the 80's, but they play nothing else
than pop. If I want to listen to rock music -and I always want to-, then I
just insert 5 CDs in the CD player and set it to shuffle mode.;)

Well, my first lover was Guns N Roses. Our love lasted for 4 years.;) Then
came the real, never ending love: Dream Theater.;)
Of course, no matter how much I liked G'NR, I find some of the songs
cheesy, as I look back now. But in 1986, when Appetite came out, that was
the acceptable rock music.

Some of you might remember me, over the years, having praised the Ann Arbor
art fair as a time of great CD hauls for cheap prices....this year wasn't
the greatest, but add my perusals of the used cd places during that same
time, and I didn't make out too badly last weekend....
of the stuff i got, Anacrusis' Screams and Whispers disc was the best, a
real good find.....if anyone can point me towards anacrusis info, i'd be
obliged.....
I picked up the album "always" by a band called "the gathering"....are these
the same folks now touring in the United States? as a description, i'd
offer slow heavy metal with absolute death vocals, which are mixed well
(meaning they don't overwhelm the rest of the music, and are actually rather
listenable)
got an extra copy of that, so if anyone has, say, an early Magellan disc
that's just picking up dust, I'd be open to a trade.......

oops....forgot to mention the more (maybe) viable trade bait
also got an extra (used) copy of Damn the Machine (including original(?)
Megadeth guitarist Chris Poland), and of Mutha's Day Out -- "My Soul is Wet
(punch-out, used)....if you don't know about Mutha's Day Out, go ask Paul
Cashman (or just check out his web site for info on that band).....the kids
in that band were like 15 when they made the album, and it's kind of like a
Korn, jr., an early (1993 i think) rap/metal combo, but without all the
baggage that's attached to the "genre" now that it's gotten big.....
like i was saying, i wanna get my hands on early Magellan stuff (hour of
restoration or impending ascenscion), so if you have one of those to trade,
please speak up....or make a trade offer....

Hey Jammers,
I had an idea and I don't know if it has been posted before so I will say it
anyway. On TRL you always see people outside with signs asking to come up to
see Carson or saying Limp Bizket rules or whatever. So what if some New York
fans could head down to the MTV studio and make some signs with Dream Theater
related things on it. I think it would be good free publicity so if some of
you die hard fans could do it every now and then, I think it would help. I
would do it but I am down in San Diego.

True, I look at my CD collection and much of what I listen to is
depressing (Marillion, Queensryche, Pink Floyd, Cure, Fates, Savatage)
but there are a TON of inspirational and uplifting non-pop albums as
well... such as most of RUSH, The Gathering (dont ask me why but I find
them very uplifting.. must be the vocals), U2, Transiberian Orchestra
(fills my heart with joy :P ) Dream Theater, etc.
In fact, 99 percent of what I listened to was depressing music until I
discovered Dream Theater, who opened my eyes to the fact that music can
indeed be uplifting. (thanks DT!). Wierd too, that my overall outlook
on life has improved since I started listening to Dream Theater 24 hours
a day :P .

Here we go! Congrats Skadz on keeping this list alive for 5000
digests!!
As far as the Seoul Show goes, I second the motion by bogie. We
definitly need to get this show in MP3 format, especially if
they play new stuff. I must admit that I am a bit puzzled by this
show. On the 25th of May, MP was doing a clinic in Quebec City and said
that there would not be any shows BEFORE the release of the next album.
A few days later, this show pops up. I, for one, sure hope that they
will not play anything new. At first I was both puzzled and a tiny bit
irritated by OFB's silence on the new album, being that there has never
been before that kind of secrecy concerning new material (e.g. THe Fix
for 96 and other similar shows) before. But now, with the thread that
has emerged on this list concerning DT99, I am buzzing with
anticipation. That would certainly die if they played new material in
Seoul because I know that in no way am I going to be able to stop myself
from listening to it, short of shooting myself in the balls.

I couldn't agree with you more, except that I thought Clutch SUCKED. I know that clutch has been around for a while, at least as long ago as when Headbangers Ball was on MTV...but YUCK. Just as terrible and talentless as Limp Bizkit and Korn.
Monster Magnet though...they were simply being Monster Magnet. The band has an image to maintain, and they did a good job of it last night. The lead singers onstage antics (from his tight leather pants, to throwing water around and doing Poison-esque stage jumps) were pretty corny...but what do you expect from a guy Marilyn Manson called "An LSD angel with marijuana wings." Either way, the only redeeming part of their performance was Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and maybe 1 other song.
Iron Maiden...WICKED. The guys were in good form, and had incredible stage presence. They were the most energetic band I have ever seen live! Although the set list was missing a couple of my fav. songs, the concert was great! If they come around any of you guys, I highly recommend seeing the show.
BTW - Maiden is drawing a totally cool crowd. I got a lot of high fives when people saw my Iced Earth - Days of Purgatory shirt.

Oh man, oh man, oh man, what a fucking show!!! Just saw Iron Maiden in Chicago last night, and it was easily one of the best shows I've been to (note: I didn't say THE best, just one of the best :). After easily finding the Aragon Ballroom, my buds and I got lost in downtown looking for this Italian restaurant we ate at before. Didn't find it, but ate at another kickass Italian eatery. As good as it was, that was a bit of a mistake since we were all bloated with pasta right when we got to a completely packed and extremely hot concert hall. It HAD to be the most tightly packed show I've ever been to. Clutch came out. Not as bad as I was expecting. I wouldn't mind seeing them again, only in a smaller club in a different setting. Monster Magnet has to be the worst band I've ever seen live. At first I thought all their posing on the stage (the singer in particular) was sort of tongue-in-cheek parody type stuff, but then I thought, man, they're not doing a very good job of it. They played their songs alright. I mean, I didn't notice wrong notes or anything, but they were just bad. The, the video screen came down (after a short wait) and the Ed Hunter video thing came on. I must say, that was one damn good idea for a way to open the show. I wouldn't mind checking the game out sometime. I don't think I really need to saya whole lot about the show itself. I mean, the band kicked ass as expected. Bruce sounded as good, if not better than ever. The three guitar setup really works, too. I really enjoy Janick's playing a lot mroe now. Highlights:
The opening was killer Eddie walking around on the stage Great set list Dickinson is a damn good frontman that really knows how to work the crowd The band had a lot of energy, and that really affected the crowd's reaction, I believe "SCREAM FOR ME CHICAGO!!!!!" SCREAM FOR ME LONG BEACH ARENA!!!!!" (yes, Bruce did say this at one point with a rather wry smile on his face :).
Lowlights: Monster Magnet the acoustics weren't all that great. The mix may have ben alright, but the acoustics in the place weren't the best the heat
I really think Maiden is headed to do some bigger shows after the new album comes out. Definitely an act to catch. A couple guys in the show commented on my FII tour shirt I was wearing, as well as one guy I saw outside. If any of you are on here, hey.

With any revolution comes new rules. DT won't go broke, they'll just have to find a different way to market themselves. If mp3 is everything that the mass media would have you believe (and IMHO they're not far off) then it own't be CDs that are obsolete, but rather record labels. There's always going to be a hit idea for a band to make money while releasing their music to the public. And anyway, DT are certainly set for cash for the time being. === *Trent
