I just happened to pick up the latest issue of Details the other day, and
while flipping through the pages, I came across an article detailing a new
arcade game from Konami. It's called "Guitar Freaks," and it's based on
an air-guitar type deal for scoring. Anyway, the opening lines of the
article go like so: "Can you play a Les Paul faster than Jimmy Page? How
    'bout Yngwie Malmsteen?"

I thought it was cool that he'd get mentioned in this kind of magazine.

bah, these are all common words, so sharing of these song titles is nothing
estraordinary. i want to find another band with a song called The Ones Who
Help To Set The Sun or Metropolis, pt. I, or better yet, Ytsejam :) moo.

Hmmm.....Personally I DO like the disc. I think it's somewhat subtle
though, and isn't exactly the kind of disc that hits you over the head
at first. Although I must say that their 2nd disc is better ("Fence the
    Clear")

I actually prefer SWTWC, but both discs are excellent. Also, if
anybody's looking for a HEAVY, VERY DARK metal album (the kind that just
rips your innards out), go check out their "Burnt Offerings" disc (their
first w/Barlow on vox). A word of caution though: This stuff is really
wicked, especially the hellish 17 minute epic "Dante's Inferno".

And Shane, I really like your taste in vocalists! I don't know Bush too
well (I only have "Sound of White Noise") but I have to admit he's
good. Barlow rocks bigtime, of course. And Zak Stevens is my absolute
    favorite metal vocalist right now!

Okay kiddies, if you think you hear Fates in WtWB, try going to Another
Dimension... At 4:15, after Jordan's bridge solo, listen to the
guitar/drums. It sounds like something out of Awken the Guadrian-era
Fates. Mike's got the groovy Steve Zimmerman drums down, John's
distortion is very Matheos-sounding, and the beat is treated like Fates
treated their odd-time sigs: 4/4 with some extra tacked on the end.

It struck me as the biggest Fates homage on the disc, IMO.

Seeing as my 12-disc changer needed refilling after the freshness of its
current crop of cds had run out, I searched my cd rack for something with
which to complete the task. What did my eye spy but a cd by a SF Bay thrash
band Defiance. Entitled "Beyond Recognition," this disc smokes. Imagine
"Fool's Game"-era Mordred with Chuck Billy singing and you are getting the
picture. Perhaps the best part of the deal was that I found this cd residing
in the cut-out bin of ye local Kemp Mill Records about 5 years ago. I sure
    do love me a .99 kick-ass cd...

For all you guitarists out there, some news concerning JP's JPM signature model from Ibanez...after 2000 it may be no more! On the "other 6 string guitars" message board on www.jemsite.com, I found this posted:

By Todd Beachler (Biggestmuff) on Thursday, July 8, 1999 - 04:42 pm:
I've forgotten to post this little tidbit. My girlfriend and I went to a John Petrucci clinic about 3 months ago. During Q&A my girlfriend asked John what the color scheme for 2000 was going to be. To my surprise and dismay, John said that he was working with Ibanez on a totally new model! He also added that he wants a guitar with more versatility. Anyone that has Dream Theater's last album knows that John used a couple of different guitars on the album for different sounds. He used a Talman set up for slide and as well as a Rickenbacker. So anyone that wants a JPM as they are now know, need to get them soon!

Wonder how much more versitile he's planning to make it? Coil taps or peizo pickup in the bridge maybe?

A medical student was in the morgue one day after class, getting a
little practice in before the final exams. He went over to a table where a
body was lying face down. He removed the sheet over the body and to his
surprise he found a cork in the corpse's rectum. Figuring this was fairly
unusual, he pulled the cork our, and to his surprise, music began playing
"On the road again....Just cain't wait to get on the road again..." The student
was amazed and placed the cork back in the rectum. The music stopped.

Totally freaked out, the student called the Medical Examiner over to the
corpse. "Look at this. This is really something!!" the student told the examiner
as he pulled the cork back out again. "One the road again, Just cain't wait to
get on the road again...." "So what?" the Medical Examiner replied, obviously
unimpressed with the students discovery. "But isn't that the most amazing
thing you've ever seen?" asked the student. "Are you kidding?" replied the
Examiner, "Any asshole can sing country music."

Aztec Jade is: Timothy Becker on Keyboards Matt Howenstein on Guitars Bryan Kowalski on Bass Rick Miller on Drums Leon Ozug on Lead Vocals

    The tracks are: 1. The Calling (4:18) 2. To Believe (5:12) 3. Mad Not Crazy (4:15) 4. Desperate Land (2:57) 5. Nosferatu (4:37) 6. Atlantis (4:24) 7. Regatta Fugue II (3:24) 8. Stained (4:19) 9. Gates Of Babylon (4:14) 10. Requiem (4:30)

This is the second release from the New York based prog-metal band Aztec Jade, and the follow up to their debut CD "Modern Prophet". The CD has a very god production and the musicians are very technically skilled. This together with the good songwriting and the great hook lines performed by a powerful singer makes this album a real killer.

Aztec Jade is reminiscent to Dream Theater with heavy complex riffs and catchy melodies. The best tracks are "The Calling", "To Believe", "Desperate Land", "Nosferatu", "Regatta Fugue II", "Stained" and "Requiem".

This album really gets to your mind. Great Stuff that is highly recommended! Go get it!

Go and buy the new IN FLAMES album now. This band rocks, I have said it before but I must say it again. 'Colony' continues in their style of kick ass metal. Anyone stuck on the lighter side of metal and needs a good melodic band that is heavier, check this shit out.

MAIDEN in 21 days. It will be the greatest show I have ever seen. Thankfully, they are playing at San Jose St., which is GENERAL ADMISSION!!!!!

Get TESTAMENT's 'Practice what you preach' it is an awesome thrash album. Everyone should also check out the three acoustic songs from the live Fillmore album. They are truly brilliant pieces of song writing. I would like to see your little queer ska/punk hybrids write like that.

I realized something, Sebastian Bach is one of the best singers ever. Enough said. He kicks ass. Just listen to Slave to the Grind Especially the ballads.
