As always, it depends on the listener, but I've gotten alot better comments
from Day for Night than the others. My personal fave is Day for Night. I
did start with The Light after woot gave it to me. I remember having to
choke it down, too. Took a few spins to like, and I still don't think The
Light holds a candle to (lol, whotta pun!) Day for Night. :) Well, maybe it
does. Depends on what mood I'm in. :)
For starters, I recommend downloading the whole albums in MP3 format off of
the 'net and not supporting these wretched penny-pinching bands by shelling
out $15 per each of their albums.

]From what I've seen, it seems that newer SB fans absolutely LOVE "Day for Night", and the older fans tend to put it nearer the bottom of the list. Not that it isn't a great album, but if you have to put them in order, something has to be on the bottom.

Well... you'll have to look elsewhere for complete songs, let alone complete albums... the url I posted earlier has only *sample* mp3s... they're very generous samples though, usually more than half of the songs, which is plenty to decide if you like it or not.

Let me say 1st a giant thanx to all those who helped me out with the theory stuff it helped point out some basics like stacking the chords .....that i knew but didnt know exactly how to apply.

and then i opened the lastest one and it seems like were slipping back into that sarcastic BS that this list is notorious for
a shame really...i dont remember who posted it but maybe we should pull the plug again so that everyone appreciates it a little more

why because thats not what you call them?.....what should we call them? I think that calling someone a convert is not a bad thing because ANYONE after DTs' original members who listened are converts in my book.....including JLB and Jordan Rudess to name just a few and that does not disrespect their abilities in the least

I believe you're absolutely right, I'm working with a jazz band in New Orleans, and our best customers are ALWAYS from Japan or Germany/Scandinavia...sure, some of it may be economics, but I find overall that Europeans and Asians are much more receptive to jazz/progressive types of music than Americans are...Americans often tend to be more trendy I find, and their attitudes are shaped a great deal by the teenage demographic, much because of American's prudish views towards sex. So anything that is remotely "sexy" becomes huge. I don't think this is true abroad...Think about it, You look at the pop culture nowadays, and most of it is controlled by teenage and preteen girls, BSB, NSync, Titanic, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, all of it is for the most part huge because of them, though sure there are other types of people who like the aforementioned items, I know that...

His name is Carter Beauford, and yes, he's amazing, he has a great touch, wonderful technique, and has that overall blend of styles that makes for great listening. He can really get a great feel, and can also lay back and be real tasteful too....
BTW, one popular song that is driving me nuts more than ANYTHING, more than NSync or BSB or TLC is that damn Sixpence song, it has got to be the most irritating thing I've heard in years....

Well... I don't know about Richard Christy with another band... Never heard Spastik Ink, how is it? But the thing is... it's a fact: every drummer that has worked with Death and split later hasn't been playing anything nearly as good as what they were playing with Death. Let's see: Chris Reifert and Bill Andrews can rot in hell, Sean Reinert did Cynic, Anomaly, and Gordian Knot, but still not as technical, Gene Hoglan did Old Man's Child (ok), Naphobia (never heard it), SYL (ok if not for the fact that you can barely hear him behind all the noise), and Testament (his most un-inspired work I think)...I think Chuck Schuldiner sqeezes extra-juice out of the motherfuckers.. =) I remember when they were holding auditions for a new drummer for Death, I was actually thinking about contacting Chuck for it, but then realized I'd NEVER want to work with Chuck in a full time band. He can't keep a person in the band if his life depended on it. hehe I have also been thinking about auditioning for Iced Earth when they were looking for a new drummer (shortly before they got Brent Smedley back), but then I realized that Iced Earth is not really my style... and they seem to lack in the songwriting dept. Every Iced Earth album sounds more or less the same. I have nothing against them, I actually have all their albums, but I don't think I'd even come to see them live.
And for anyone that hasnt checked out Death yet, do yourself a favor. GET any album except for the first 3: (Scream Bloody Gore, Leprosy, Spiritual Healing). Those are crap. But the newer ones, are just the most progressive heavy stuff I have EVER heard. Amazing musicianship... kinda melodic-progressive metal with Beavis-on-crack vocals (the only downside)...
P.S. How come Best Buy and Circuit City dont have Ice Age, Tiles, or Dali's Dilemma???? BB has Ice Age listed but no stores in chicago have it. The other bands... no one's ever heard of them. And they carry some Magna Carta stuff, such as ELP, Rush tributes, and LTE!!! I see an aweful lot of Backdoo r Boys new shit though!!!

Horns kick ass! I'd love to hear some of the prog bands with a full horn section. That's about the only thing I liked about bands like: Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, and even KC & the Sunshine Band! (That ones gonna get me some shit) I fucking love well played and well recorded horns. BTW, some of the older Neil Diamond material had a significant amount of horns.

AMEN sister! "The Doorway" was the first Spock's Beard song I ever heard, and it's still my favorite. That piano work at the beginning is incredible.
I'd have to say, actually, that my SB disc favs would have to go Beware of Darkness, then Day For Night, and then in a close third would be The Light. But they're all great. I haven't heard Kindness of Strangers yet, but intent to buy it as soon as I can.
The only reason I write this so late is because I was just listening to them and decided to shout my praises.
