I think most people go through the "discovery" of long songs.
    It's a fun process... ;-)

Radar Love (Golden Earring) -- 6 minutes? A cool song, but it sure is long...

Life's Been Good To Me (Joe Walsh) -- Wow, I had time to run upstairs,
find a blank tape and stick it in to record before the *intro*
was even over on this song...

American Pie -- Sheesh, this song has more lyrics than I've ever heard
before... but I sure like to sing along.

Stairway to Heaven -- Rock songs can't get much longer than this, can they??

Paradise by the Dashboard Lights -- Well, I guess they can....

Roundabout (Yes) -- What the heck is this music? It's like eight and a
half minutes long and has three distinct sections. Whoa, listen
            to that bass player.

Feel Like I Do -- Geez, I thought Roundabout was the longest song on the
radio, but then I heard this Peter Frampton guy making his guitar
sound like talking for almost 14 minutes.

In a Gadda da Vidda -- 17 minutes? A drum solo in the middle? What were
            these guys thinking? Holy cow.

Close to the Edge -- I was gonna buy a Yes tape the other day since
Roundabout has been growing on me and I found "Close to the Edge"
but the stupid tape had only THREE songs on it for 8 bucks!?!
            What a rip off.

Whoops. My friend said that the songs on "Close to the Edge"
averaged over 12 minutes. I guess that's not so bad.

2112 -- I was listening to this top 500 countdown and this song came on and
it just kept going and going and it told this cool story about this
guy who wanted to play the guitar in this future society that hated
free expression and it must have been 20 minutes! I love it!
            We have assumed control!

Thick as a Brick (Jethro Tull) -- Oh my god, there's only ONE song on
this album and it's 45 minutes long... But, damn is it cool.
I wish they'd play the whole thing on the radio instead of only
            the first 5 minutes.

Passion Play (Jethro Tull) -- Another album that's only ONE song. Sheesh,
that Ian Anderson guy loves his long songs... I had to buy two
versions of the CD since the first one had a break in the middle
where the original album had to be turned over. My new CD just
has one 42 minute track. Cool!

Enlightenment -- Now that I'm looking for 'em, I can't believe how many
            long songs there are! Cool!

            - "Supper's Ready" clocks in at over 20 minutes.
            - Most of the songs on Pink Floyd's "Animals"
            - the Dream Theater CD has that cool song the Itsajam guys
              petitioned for, "Change of Seasons",
            - Tales for Topographic Oceans + Gates of Delirium
            - APSOG
            - Starless
            - The Sky Moves Sideways
            - a cool one called "Canto IV" by Discipline, .
            - and so on...

Most everyone goes through the long song "discovery" phase so
don't be too hard on 'em... :-)
