Herb has played on every Michael Manring album to date, and did Attention
Deficit as well (I believe that is how this thread started - it was also my
first exposure to the guy). He's also working with Alex Skolnick in
Skol-Patrol and various other side projects...

The producer for "The Wall" was Bob Ezrin, who also co-wrote "Comfortably
Numb", whether he is credited or not. He also appeared (as did Tony Levin)
on "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" in 1987, as a writer and performer...

Yea sure, the Jam has an informative welcome message, and that's good. =
    But,
Dream Theater fans are in general, not only on the YtseJam, very quick =
    to
bitch someone for not doing the research they themselves have done. =

See the DT NewsGroup f.ex.! Ask a newbie question and get 4 replies =

Hey, I haven't been to a whole lot of concerts at all, and I really wanted to
see King's X play, but i checked ticketmaster and the July 25th show in
Chicago's House of Blues is 21 and older. Does that mean 21 or older and that
it or does it mean I need an adult with me. I'm pretty sure it's the former,
but I really hope not cause 15 isn't really quite 21! E-mail me at

Hm. Fag, huh? I think I know what you meant.
    Interesting typo tho.

In any event, when I joined the jam a few months ago
(January or thereabouts), I had basically no knowledge
of DT and didn't really pretend to. I skimmed about a
section of the FAQ before thinking "Get me outta
here!" I figured I could learn more about the band by
reading the bios on dreamtheater.net and reading what
everyone else had to say. I didn't post until I felt
I could contribute something of some value to whatever
discussion. A person doesn't necessarily need to read
the FAQ to have his/her questions answered. I'm not
even certain that it's a very good resource as I've
used it for jackshit. I'm very much a neophyte DT
fan, but I do know some things and I've never felt the
need to read the FAQ for anything. The only thing I
couldn't figure out was what LTE stood for. I
    privately e-mailed a list member (I think it might've
been Korg, or perhaps Al) and asked my question. The
response was "LTE stands for Liquid Tension
Experiment. That's a band featuring Mike, Jordan,
John and Tony Levin. They just released an CD and
they're about to perform a few club gigs to promote
it. However, all of this is in the FAQ." Did I read
the FAQ? Nope. But all my FAQ-like answers (except
for one) were answered simply by shutting up and
letting the other list members answer my questions
before I ask them. One example of a question that was
answered that I never asked was who in the hell were
the Derek and Kevin characters and what the hell was
the rivalry about. Listening to DT albums and reading
the jam answered that question. A FAQ isn't totally
    necessary, IMHO.

To recap, there's nothing wrong with helping someone
who's in need. Sending them a nastygram telling them
to read the FAQ along with several expletives does
nothing to make friends, nor does it give a good
impression of the jam. Hospitality is what music is
    all about, right people?

I guess I should have clarified a little more. My remote hat is on the
right side of my kit, near the ride. The pedal is on the left side of my
main stand (with swivel legs) and my double pedal is on the right side of my
main hat. Similar to Jasons. I once had my remote hats located above my
main hats, but that didn't work as well. When I get a set of 12 or 10 hats,
i might put those above my mains. I have a birdseye view of my set at
http://web.infoave.net/~sticks707/DrumPic4.htm . This is an older picture,
but you can get an idea of what we are talking about.
http://web.infoave.net/~sticks707/welcome.htm has links to other pics of my
set. You can also go to the web sites of the major drum compnies to see

    Al on Finn's drummer:
    > The drummer is no slouch, either.

Sadly, DiCenso is no longer the drummer. An extremely difficult act to
follow (or perhaps shoes to fill? :), but the new guy isn't bad. Dana
Robertson, I believe. Played with Missing Persons. I saw his debut jam
with Finn and was impressed with how much of the material he nailed.
Dave's doin' his own thing now in a pure FUNK band,
http://www.twotonshoe.com and he's still quite sick on a small kit.

Of course, Finn is still quite ill. Go buy "Wicked"..... N O W !!! Need
some reasons other than I command you to? :)

    Ok:

#1 It's progressive sometimes. It's progressive fusion sometimes.

#2 There's a part to the beginning of a song (Pompous Music Suite: 3rd
Movement) which is in 15/<pick some power of 2>. I don't believe they're
doing it by feel; I believe it was all carefully conceived, charted and
quite tightly executed :) It's one of my favorite parts of the disc.
They then go into a freetime something or other. It's whacked.

    #3 Jon plays Ibanez.

#4 John Petrucci has a solo on one of the songs!

    Regards,
    Jon

Example: Some guy is a DT "freak", but doesn't have an internet connection at home, so he goes to the library (or whatever) to borrow a computer with an internet connection. As he is surfing the web, he discovers that there is a big community of DT fans out there! Maybe he can get some of all his DT-questions answered? He sends an e-mail to someone (not nescesarrily the Jam) and askes why Moore left DT. In return he gets "hatemail" saying "Read the fucking FAQ, dumb-ass!" The poor guy will probably never dare to contact another DT-fan again..... And how the heck will he know what a FAQ is if he is new to the net? Most of the people who ask questions like that, are new to the internet, and will probably find out what a FAQ is within a couple of weeks, but why not give them a nice welcome? It would take you less time than you spend flaming someone on the Jam anyway!

EXACTLY MY POINT! (At least someone knows how to read)

-------------------------------------- It tells you where the fag is, how to unsubscribe, and the answers to the rest of those questions that some people keep asking because they're too lazy to read.

I know where the "fag" is......sorry man ;> (couldnt resist)

Majesty (Previous name of Dream Theater)

SEE how easy that was?.......stop being so stuffy people besides there are more DT fans in other countries besides the states as well and if you slam them for not reading the FAQ then they might understand your intention as well as i have ;>

And that, will make you look like a bunch of American dicks!

I suppose you could put the remote pedal on the right of the double pedal (with the hi-hat on the left), but that would interfere with the action of the double pedal. ><

I get it now. It's connected by a cable so you can put it wherever you want. When this discussion came up, I went back and looked at Mike's instruction video and the overhead shot of his set-up, and saw no pedals for his remote hats. that confused me.

Can't send e-mail if you're using the internet on a library computer. I'll have to assume the "or whatever."

He wouldn't get "hatemail" saying "Read the fucking FAQ, dumb-ass!" he'd get e-mail saying "The answer to that any many, many more questions is in the Dream Theater FAQ at dreamtheater.net." Since this e-mail is not jam-related, they'd assume that the person asking the question isn't on the Jam and thus may not know to "read the FAQ."

    >< And how the heck will he know what a FAQ is if he is new to the net? ><

FAQs aren't restricted to the internet.

The only instance I can think of where "read the FAQ" isn't good enough is when a person has a computer so slow (such as myself - 50mhzs of turtle slowness), that they literally can't "read the FAQ."

But when all is said and done, the inhabitants of the jam and their precious FAQ aren't as evil as you'd like to think.

Well, got my LTE2 yesterday.... It's unfuckingbelievable.... Amazing stuff... although I do have a couple of comments...

I love the production on the disk, although when Acid Rain kicked in I wasn't too impressed with the snare sound... That whole "aluminum can" sound... Although not as bad as ACOS, but still noticeable... Once you get used to it though, it sounds fine. I also don't care that much for Liquid Dreams, so I usually skip that one. Chewbacca also has some really WEIRD parts, although after a couple of listens, I liked it... Overall, the album would probably get 9/10 from me, so anyone that doesnt have it, GET IT!!!

And now, for my biggest bitch... =) I don't think I can tolerate an accordeon sound in Another Dimension. The whole tune rocks, but man... that accordeon thing makes me cringe.. =)

    anyway, jam on! =)

There has been some confusion over this for quite some time. There is an explanation in the FAQ (shock!) claiming that it is a "hot spicy herb/pepper served on Indian food". However, I was once at an Indian restaurant and I ordered the Spicy Chicken Vindaloo. I later asked the waiter what a vindaloo is. He said <indian-accent> "A vindaloo is a potato." </indian-accent> Indeed there were potatoes in the dish. The possibility exists, however, that the waiter was bullshitting me.

I later informed the FAQ maintainer of this discovery, but since anything I say is invalid, it never found its way into the FAQ.

Anyone care to confirm the waiter's statement?

    Lovingly,

    Rick Audet San Francisco
