I wholeheartedly agree! The LiT solo had MUCH more to offer.
Petrucci spends too much time dwelling on technically impressive
speed runs and not enough time articulating a musical theme.
When he slows down and really begins to voice his playing, he's at
his best. This is an area where Jon Finn could give him a few pointers.
IMHO, the most creative solo I've heard JP perform was the LiT offering.

    But what do I know?

Oh Phuhleaze!! There's about 900 other jammers, old and new that I would rather listen to hot air it about anything (regardless of whether its Genesis) from anyone else. > > But alas, I digress.

Don't bother mentioning that, asshole. You digressed the moment you first opened your mouthhole. > Thankfully, I have a complete Genesis > discogprahy (and whatever else is there)

Yeah....woohoo..aren't you cool. Eat shit and die motherfucker. You are such a detracting quality of this jam that scores of jammers have unsubbed, just because of you. I'm saying everything that all the other people in the world want to say, but don't -- because they're afraid to. The big difference is that I don't fucking care. Please crawl back under the hole that you slithered out from years ago.

Oh....and by the way. You can't sing for shit! Some YtseConer has it all on living-proof video tape!

First, I bought more CDs this week than I did during the first five months of this year. I bought Paul Gilbert's "King Of Clubs," Joe Stump's "Night of the Living Shred," and Voivod's "Nothingface," all for a total of $13 at a local store. All three are worthwhile, though none are worldbeaters. Paul is my hero, Joe is frightening, and Voivod used to play Rush songs backwards and call them originals.

Last weekend I was wandering through a mall in Columbus, GA, and I happened upon the remnants of what used to be Blockbuster Music. As it turns out, BM was bought out and they are now called Warehouse Music. I was very pleased to find the new Spock's Beard and LTE2 in there, so I picked them up. LTE2 is monstrous. The chugging low-B-string-oriented part that happens a few times during Acid Rain is incredible, as is most of the rest of the disc. The new Spock's Beard disc - it didn't suck me in like their other three discs did upon first listen, but it's still damn good stuff.

Another thing about LTE2 that I really liked was the sound Jordan used in the beginning of Acid Rain that was a good lead sound with a percussive, xylophonish sound layered in there.

I acquired a DT promo CD called "Live Bonus Tracks." It has four songs: "Caught In Alice's 9-Inch Tool Garden," "Take Away My Pain," "Burning My Soul," and "Another Hand/The Killing Hand," all recorded at Birch Hell during the Fix for '96 mini tour. Some of the words on the case are in French. Does anyone (Steffen?) know anything about the origin of this disc? Many thanks in advance to whomever can help me out.

The discussion about Christian music reminded me of one of my old girlfriends. She often made me set the CD player to repeat a Petra song called "Prayer" over and over while we...umm...procreated.

If anyone finds themselves in Chattanooga, Tennessee, go to a mall called "Hamilton Place." The Camelot Music store in that mall has the most incredible prog metal selection I've ever seen outside of a specialty shop/catalog.

Does anyone else like the band Sugarloaf? If you do, please let me know. They wrote that song "Green Eyed Lady," but I've got their "Best Of...," and I swear that I have played it more than any other CD I own over the last six months. They play your basic 70's rock, I suppose, with a good organist and guitarist, but the songwriting and soloing is better than "your basic 70's rock."

If you're going to be at Dragon*Con in Atlanta, Georgia, during the 4th of July weekend, and your name is neither Paul nor Phil, let me know via private email. I like meeting Ytsejammers. They're cool :)

And, possibly most importantly, Dave Thomas, the guy that created the wonderful Doom 2 DT level, said: > The Matrix ... (which, btw, is easily the best film of 1999...)

Please, do not declare any film to be the best of 1999 until you see "The Blair Witch Project." This is the first _truly_ frightening movie that has been filmed in at least 15 years. If you're curious, check out http://www.blairwitch.com or http://www.artisanent.com

May Blockbuster Music rest in pieces.

Take care, everyone, Mark Peters swifty@auburn.net

question about the word "major": was MCA records ever considered a major player in the biz? I've just got this nagging feeling that there were a few 'name' artists associated with the MCA label way back when....but i can't pull any specifics.....just curious.....

Skynnyrd is the only one I can think of off hand, but I know there are a few others. That was years ago, though. I can't think of any big names on MCA recently.

You know what I love? I love that when someone does this. Why? Maybe they were dropped on their head as a child or something else, I don't know. Regardless, it's comments like this which has turned the Ytsejam into the downward spiral into the tiolet. No....To proclaim to the world how much of a cocksucker you are! You annoy the living shit out of the majority of humans alive. No Syrass, it is you that has turned the Ytsejam into a spiraling toilet-flush. Remember, oh useless one, I wasn't around for quite some time. But I was here on this list, over 5 years ago. I'm one of the veterans (but I don't force feed that to people, because I don't feel a need to) The list was a respectable list, worth anyone's valuable time...because it dealt with a common love of a great band and the family that contributed to the list. Five years later, we have a much different list. Here's what happens when you post to the jam:

*you get slammed because you posted something already on the faq *you get slammed cause your opinion isn't welcome *you get some "I am holier than thou" response from yours truly, Syrass!

Well, you mention that I am part of the problem??? How could I be part of the problem? Most of the time, I am in deep lurk mode. Remember, oh useless one, I unsubbed 2 years back and only recently returned. If you are concerned about who is a problem, get up from your dumb tech support job, go to the bathroom and look in the fucking mirror.

You ask me to stop being part of the problem and instead, be part of the solution??? I am being part of the solution. The solution to expose you for what you are, a loser that thinks he's far more important than we all know. Do us all a favor, and just stop speaking and posting. There would probably be alot more Dream Theater fans out there on the net, if they never bumped into you on the ytsejam or the newsgroups!

I should never have loaned you my library card, you bastard! What's the first thing you do but go buy a bunch of CD's on it, violating my virginity!
