    Hey all..
I've been in "lurk" mode for a while now, but I'd love to give my .02 on
    the new LTE. It rocks!
What I like: 7 string groove. Long live Ibanez. Damn! It absolutely
rocks! I like the "tightness" of the band on this one. They really seem
polished and rehearsed. Maybe they took longer rehearsing before recording
on this one. Maybe its the fact that they have learned to "truly" work with
eachother. I also like that Mr. Portnoy seemed to let up a bit and ease up.
There are less fills (not every 2 or 3 measures like before) this allows my
brain to concentrate on more aspects of the music. I also like that I can
hear more of Jordan. God, is he incredible or what? I also like that his
tracks or more fluent and seem to compliment (more than before) the rest of
    the band.
What I do not like: The mix. I think that for a good portion of the album
again, Mr. Levin is "drowned out" They seem to turn him up before he does
something wild, but for the rest of the time he is "smeared in". The
clarity of the recording however, is superb.
If you want to know my overall opinion.. it rocks. Will it stay in my CD
player another week? Time will only tell. Later, J

It was listed as a QuickPick several months ago and is probably still in
stock. You might also find a RealAudio sound clip to download (short
and poor quality but informative). BTW, I think it kicks ass, and Matt
Guillory (Dali's Dilemma's keyboardist) appears as a bonus. Sorry,
mine's not for sale! My only complaint is that it's too damn short, but
it's still worth the money. Good luck and enjoy the Spock's

            Ahhh, progressive genesis.

We now take you on a journey - you don't need to pack (super's
already ready for you-whoo) and you don't need to carry a whole lot of
belongings because there's an angel in the sun freed to get back home.
Anyway, Genesis "used" to be (and, one could contend, now is back to
being) a very "moody" progressive band - not moody in the sence of
depressed but moody in the sence of orchestration. Ahhh, to ride the
tides of the Firth of Fifth with Tony once more..

But alas, I digress. Peter Gabriel (you know, the guy who does
"Sledgehammer") was the original singer of Genesis - and Phil Collins was
the 4th Genesis drummer (starting on their 3rd album, Nursery Cryme, in
1971). Albums to check out: Selling England By The Pound (is there a
greater progressive song in history than Firth Of Fifth?), Foxtrot
(Watcher Of The Skies, Super's Ready, Get 'Em Out By
Friday...even a Hackett solo) and the double-disc epic "The Lamb Lies Down
On Broadway" - Gabriel's last on vocals.

In 1976, PC took on the vocals - and his first two albums with
them: A Trick Of The Tail and Wind & Wuthering (both in 1976) are awsome
albums to check out (with songs like Dance On A Volcano, Squonk, Eleventh
Earl Of Mar and One For The Vine). Thankfully, I have a complete Genesis
discogprahy (and whatever else is there) on my little website below. have
    a gander, win a prize.

No way man! The all time best "stoplight shock the pedestrians" tune is Death's "Spirit Crusher", especially when you have like 7 people in your car all screaming the chorus along with Chuck Shuldiner:) Although, I must admit, Meshuggah does gather some strange looks....:)

    Hi all

welcome to the "J.C. Trent Ptacek" jam.

So how many organs does a man really need? Personally, I only have one, a 6 inch Longdong with a hand slider. While being perfectly adequate when soloing, it just isn't enough when performing a duet with my girlfriend (who has a great sense of rhythm). This is when I have to make use of my 8 fingers and 2 thumbs to help her reach the really high notes. As far as polyphonics are concerned, we both find 69 to be sufficient for reaching aural (oral?) high spots. In addition, we both have a couple of other buttons and joysticks (including the hard-to-find G spot) that can be manipulated alone or in combination with each other in order to produce some interesting effects. Although we are now both fairly proficient, we are somewhat camera-shy and prefer to perform in private. All the above equipment is also played and endorsed my Kevin More, Derek Shoveitin and Jordan Rudies.

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (neil.gallop@softwareag.com) Currently playing: With - Myself

    Hey jammers,

After reading everybody's opinion on Myung I came to a conclusion, everybody has their own point of view and you got to respect that, and that there are a lot of jammers who are well informed musicians which makes me proud of the jam.

It's nice to know that there are still people out there who know about music, despite all of the crap out there. We should do some kind of jam of our own ( the kind where you use instruments), anyway it doesn't hurt to dream :-)

    LONG LIVE THE JAM!!! Jose

Yes, take away the rhythmn and it's just tones, too. You can strip it down all you want, but when the pieces all fit together, you're left with a Christian song. Perhaps we should just be politically correct then and call it music with Christian intent? hehehe. Gentle Giant. They do more than just vocal counterpoint too. An interesting thing about GG -- anyone I've purposefully tried to convert to fandom of the band has done so without any difficulty. Musicians get especially rabid about them, and always complain loudly when I finally tell them the band broke up in 1980. Maybe I've just picked "the right" people to preach to, but... To anyone who's looking for something different (decidedly non-metal), be sure to check the band out.

Speaking of prog...fuckin' NEARFEST!! I still might have a ticket available for the fest (both days) if anybody going wants to make a last minute addition to their party or something. Drop me an E-mail; we'll discuss.

I recently won over two more fans to DT. I thought I'd post this as a diversion to some of the stuff that's going on, which I've been diligently trying to avoid since the point has gotten stale and people are only getting personally annoyed now.

Okay. I recently made a 250 meg zip disk full of mp3s from way cool bands. Pearl Jam, NIN, The Beatles, Zep, etc. And DT! I included "6:00", "Metropolis", and "Speak To Me." I told my friend (Murphy) to listen to these mp3s in particular and to tell me what he thinks. To say that he was impressed would be a pretty big under statement.

Now for the other. My girlfriend and I were getting ready to go out to eat with some friends. She was in the bathroom blow drying her hair and I was getting dressed in my room. I usually play music while I do this. The song of that particular moment was PMU. After I came out of my room, she asked me what it was that I was playing b/c apparently I "was playing something halfway decent for a change".

Ooh my head, rock on. === *Trent

Nothing disrespectful about it, and perhaps you're a little too sensitive. I'm not aiming to win any popularity contests with ytsejammers who believe that they are superior to keyboardists who don't bother programming their boards (because the chops speak more than the ability to play with a toy) and I'm certainly not concerned with whether or not you find something as TAME and FAIR as this challenge to be disrespectful. I'm much more concerned about learning things I don't know about, and challenging myself and the people on this list. Are you up for the challenge?

    > have a nice chuckle to myself, and reassure myself that I *CAN* play > Lines in the Sand on my Kurzweil K2000, and probably better than most > stuck-up factory-patch no-programming "keyboardists" on this list. You'd have to be a liar to even think it.

Man, okay, if this is disrespectful, fuck it, because someone's got to put you to the test since you have clearly got the ego thing down. Let's see if you have the programming chops. DO what you claim you can do, instead of talking a big game. I have been called an egotist because I profess to have some knowledge of the guitar, but I have always backed up anything I have said, and have never made claims about my playing that weren't humbling or fair. Other people have gotten me in trouble by being complimentary on this list, but you have never seen me say anything that I couldn't back up with my own pudding. You can test me on that anytime. Bert, if you are as good as you claim to be, this should be a walk in the park, since _I_ can more or less play LitS's opening keyboard parts. You should also note that no one claimed that your board is inferior (quite the contrary if you can stop playing the role of the victim for a moment long enough to re-read my SCATHING and truly malevolent post) though if someone prefers the sounds from a Trinity to those in a Kurz, he'd be a liar NOT to say your board is sonically inferior. Now let's hear some evidence for how you can sound like a Trinity without a Trinity, at which point I'll happily give you back the break I so rudely asked you to give me, and from that point on, upon your request shall gladly refrain from asking you to do things you seem to think are really simple to do. Fact of the matter is, I personally don't believe those sounds can be obtained without a Korg product or a sample of one. Take the challenge or just cut the crap. No hard feelings either way.

Well, after several strong suggestions to try out Symphony X, I finally downloaded a few MP3's so that I could sample them out. Now, I'm not trying to start a Spock's Beard thing here with Symphony X(BTW, I absolutely LOVE Spock's Beard, they are even BETTER than I thought, really a great big surprise, thanks...:), but I wasn't that impressed. Same with Angra. I guess it's that I've kind of gotten more away from that super heavy guitar sound, but the guitars were so thick, and I was expecting some keyboards, or some other things to separate them from the pack. Now, I can tell they're excellent at what they do, and can see why others like them, but I'll say this as a recomendation, if you like really heavy guitar driven prog...you'll love them...me...well, I tend more toward the Spock's Beard arena of prog I guess...so if you're kind of like me, be sure you listen before you buy(aren't MP3's GREAT!!! hehe)

As for the bassist thread, some other excellent bassists I find just a true joy to hear are Neils Henning-Orsted Pederson(double bass player that'll knock your socks off), Stanley Clarke, Ron Carter, Ray Brown, George Porter Jr., and I can't believe nobody mentioned the late Cliff Burton, man, was that guy a misplaced rip-roaring guitar player or what??? :)

    Damon,

it's another funny thing on Trinity, there is no possibility to use all 8 fx+2 main fx for ONE patch, only in multi, so that's why I don't understand why they couldn't solve the patch changing problem. Another weakness of the Trinity (that I miss) that there is no FM in the board. I could make a lot more similar patch to Kevin's analogue solo sound on my old Yamaha SY99.

    Cheers, Bungle
