    Loser,

I don't think so. Actually, it's beter off if you do so. You'd be doing
the entire progressive online community a great service. Think of it.
The whole world would finally give you the credit you deserve. It's a
lot better than taking credit for things you never do or say.

Imagine the new fan base that Dream Theater, Spock's Beard, Genesis and
others would achieve now that you no longer annoy them with your stupid
    online posts.

Actually, bet yet. Put on a blindfold. Walk out to the middle of the
Ben Franklin Bridge and wait until you feel a sharp pain in your back.
Trust me, you'll feel no pain afterwards. Neither will the rest of us!

    Hey.
I've got a few questions that I have thought up after reading a bunch of
these jams. I would be interested if anyone could explain these to me? If
the answers are in the welcome letter then please tell me. If they are in
the FAQ, then, by all means, tell me to go look in the FAQ!
    1) What does KevMo mean?
    2) Who is "in charge" of the jam?
    3) Does each entry get entered by hand or by a program?
    4) Why do some jams need to be downloaded?
    5) How many jammers are on the list?
    6) What does mp3 mean? (I am computer illiterate)
    Thanks in advance,

Man, can't leave the kids alone for a few minutes.

First of all, thread ends now. Anything past the digest this shows up
in and you are off the jam. PERIOD.

I don't normally publically go after people, but this is ridiculous.

Mojo - your response to Syrinx was 100% un-called for. You pull
something like this again, you are gonna get removed from the jam.
Cut the shit and stop acting like you are 12 again.

Syrinx - everyone who has been around for a while knows very very well
that you have a holier than thou attitude. It is true, hate to tell
you. Keep is concealed around here, please.

Korg - Don't add fuel to the fire in this kind of shit, please.

Mosh - you too, stop trying to get yourself kicked off.

Everyone - this is NOT the place to flame people. If you wanna flame
someone, keep it in private email, don't put it here. Keep the
conversation to music and related stuff. As I have said about 8
billion times in the past, think before you post. Juneville bullshit
will not be put up with here.

He's some jazz musician last I checked... but there's some ex DT guy named Kevin Moore with testicular cancer...

    >2) Who is "in charge" of the jam?

Syrinx... or so he thinks... he's in charge of everything.

    >3) Does each entry get entered by hand or by a program?

It's ran through with a punch card.

    >4) Why do some jams need to be downloaded?

Because they get "jammed" on the mail server, so you have to "download" them.

    >5) How many jammers are on the list?

At last count, about 345,000, not including the 500 just subscribed from the Nepal Progmetal Festival held on the summit of Everest, only way to get there is to climb.

    >6) What does mp3 mean? (I am computer illiterate)

Mp3? Some crappy music format that is replacing CD's that the RIAA hates.

I am hoping to spend the weekend getting the new server all set up to run the jam. Once I do this, I will be asking all subscribers to re-sub at the new address. Hopefully this will kill some dead weight and clean up the list in general. I will send out an announcement with the new info early next week.

Spock's Beard -- does anyone from the PA/DE/NJ/other region want to go see them this Sunday (in Bethlehem, PA)? I've got a ticket for sale to said event. Only $20 gets you a cushy seat (one of only 400) in an air-conditioned auditorium for day 2 of the NEARfest. Aside from Spock's Beard, your ticket will also allow you to see Ice Age, Nathan Mahl, Crucible, and Hungary's own Solaris, all with 1 hour to 2 hour sets each. That's only $4 a band! And don't forget the access to a gallery of vendors (Laser's Edge, et al)... E-mail me ASAP if interested.

My sister has enlisted my aid in selling off a number of old CDs. It's mostly Christian rock, just as a warning. With all the talk of the genre in recent 'Jams, here's a chance to actually *listen* to it, and for dirt cheap. $3 a disc, postage included, or $25 for the lot of 'em (17 CDs). And I'm negotiable on that. Feel free to buy them from me and resell them at your local used CD shop at profit -- used shops around here don't buy Christian rock (too secular a region?). Check out...

    >< Well, after several strong suggestions to try out Symphony X, I finally downloaded a few MP3's so that I could sample them out. Now, I'm not trying to start a Spock's Beard thing here with Symphony X but I wasn't that impressed. ><

maybe the songs were from their first album. Now I love Symphony X. i have divine wings, but then i got twilight in olympus, and i realized that all of their songs sound the same. which isn't a bad thing, cuz all their songs are great. and they find different ways to make each song sound different, thus you don't notice that they've used the same riff in 5 other songs. if you don't get into heavy guitar stuff, you probably won't like them, but download a few songs from the divine wings of tragedy if you havent already, it's just too good to pass up. i don't think i've ever heard anyone say that Divine wings of tragedy was their 2nd best album.

    >< Same with Angra. I guess it's that I've kind of gotten more away from that super heavy guitar sound, but the guitars were so thick, and I was expecting some keyboards, or some other things to separate them from the pack. ><

i didnt like angra when i first heard them. annyoing vocals and boring music. but that was fireworks, which is a fine album but can only be tolerated for so long. i fell on my ass when i heard holy land. there's some heavy guitar-driven stuff, but they don't overdo it. not to mention the inclusion of just about every instrument ever. i think they even use a glockenspiel! =] the album is much less guitar-driven and has a very latin percussion feel to it, like a latin marching band. if you havent heard Carolina IV or any song from that album, do it now.

or maybe you've heard songs from both the divine wings of tragedy and holy land and my attempt is wasted. ah well =]

Man, I really hate it when I get backed up on my jams. Some interesting discussion going on. Anyway, I was wondering which of Victor Wooten's solo albums would be the best to start with? I've heard some stuff from "Show of Hands" and it kicks ass, but know nothing of his other ones. I'm sure they're all great, but I can't afford every one right now. Also, anyone going to Ozz Fest in St. Louis? I just found out a friend of mine snagged 12th row tickets for me, so I will be there, probably wearing a DT shirt, so keep an eye out for me and say hey. Oh, could I tell some of you about "Christian music," (I hate using that term sometimes because of the connotations it can have. I jsut call it all music and leave it there) the good, the bad, and the ugly. There are some great great bands out there with a good dose of reality and integrity in their lyrics, and some talent in their music. You just have to look for them. Klank (very cool guy, too), Saviour Machine (some of the most friendly people I've met), Wedding Party, POD, Tourniquet, the 77's, Phi Keaggy (and his old band Glass Harp), just to name a few. There are also a lot of shitty bands that unfortunately give the genre a bad name. Anyway, if anyone is interested in hearing some of the good stuff (IMO), e-mail me and maybe I'll send some samples.

There was a recent Columbia House insert called "Quick Hits: Your Guide To What's HOT Now!" (complete with exclamation point). And inside it said "Buzz Bin: Noise Makers and Chart Shakers," and of course they listed the typical bands with their most recent albums, like The Corrs, Eagle-Eye Cherry, Sixpence, Kid Rock, etc etc etc. Then they get to the metal section, where they show Monster Magnet, Rammstein, Soulfly, ICP, Judas Priest, and many more accomplished or newly popular bands. Why am I mentioning this? Listed among these "noise makers and chart shakers" were King's X (Tape Head), DT (OIaLT), and Fates Warning (Still Life). Now, I know Columbia House's opinion has little merit, but this shocked the hell out of me? King's X, DT, and most surprising of all, Fates Warning...on the rise? Unlikely. But still...and thus ends this pointless post. jim np - fates warning (apsog) and pearl jam (vitalogy)

actually...there are many christian metal bands out there... many are as good as the others...and many(like the non christian ones) suck too.. a few good ones are like Impellitteri, Touniquet, Narnia, Seventh Avenue, Creed Teramaze, Bride(more towards hardrock), Zao, Faithbomb, Extol, Antestor, Schaliach, Ethereal Scourge, Deuteronomium, Mordecai, Immortal Souls etc etc

all theabove bands are the ones that i think are good.. alot are towards the more brutal side etc =)

oh yeah..i checked the DT website out..anyone know how can i switch to non-digest mode??? thanz =)

Wow Kurt!!! Another New Orleanian who listens to DT!!!! I'm shocked and surprised...:) As you know, Prog isn't exactly the biggest thing around here....heh

Well, as for Wherehouse music, they're good, by CD Warehouse is alot nicer IMO...they get a good turnover of CD's, and they have theirs in order, unlike Wherehouse where they just group everything by alphabet, and not organized any more than that...Another GREAT place to check out is the Magic Bus on Conti Street in the French Quarter, I found a bunch of King Crimson there, and noticed they had some other good stuff there too and I'm sure you know of the Mushroom located Uptown...As for New CD's 10-13 dollars best place is Circuit City, you'll rarely find anything there higher than 13.99...And they'll surprise you there too, I've seen both LTE and the Explorer's Club there, as well as DT and QR singles and everything, it shocks me...better selection of that type of music than Tower or Virgin..:) Anyways, good to see another Jammer in New Orleans....:)

As for the person who asked me which Symphony X Mp3's i listened to, they were Smoke and Mirrors and Lady of the Snow off of Twilight of Olympus...like I said, I may have liked them more a couple years ago, they are definitely good at what they're doing, but the guitars are very thick I found, moreso than I'm into now...like I said, things like Spock's Beard, King Crimson, Dave Matthews and Santana are in my CD player more than things like Metallica, Ozzy or other very guitar heavy music that dominated my listening for so long...I'm one of the ones that likes Awake the least of all DT albums, greatly because of the way the guitars were so predominant, I preffered FII where they were alot more balanced with the keys...I'm not closing my mind to Symphony X though, if anyone can point me to some other stuff of theirs that I might like more, please do so, I'm ALWAYS on the lookout to buy more music...hehe(collection is at 2600 CD's and counting)
