If you are interested in finding MP3s for TTG... its very difficult because
TTG is now considered "indie" again, it is very hard to find them anywhere.
    My suggestions are:
    1. www.aware.com
    2. www.cduniverse.com
    3. www.newberry.com
If you want a suggestion of an album to buy, I suggest "Slingshot". This
album is a re-recording of all of their "best" songs from their first 4
albums (on the indie label Playhard) Aware is the record company that
produced this album. Aware is known for "discovering" Matchbox 20, Hootie
and the Blowfish, Ben Folds 5 etc. Slingshot was recorded in a church in
Portsmouth NH, the result is the most "full" sound that I think that I have
ever heard. Well worth picking up. My rating is a 9.5 You can purchase
    the album off of www.thankstogravity.com

    Did Caffery say this?
    I've heard some conflicting stuff......

I BELIEVE (not sure) that Atlantic WAS going to drop them, but because
of the success of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra stuff they're not going
to anymore. Also, I read that Jon is going to sing only two songs, Jon
and Zak are going to sing 2-3 songs together (as a duet or whatever),
and Zak is going to sing the rest. As far as it being heavier, yes Jon
did say that. I however didn't hear that there would be no keys on
it.... man, I hope this isn't true! Lastly, I know you're correct about
it NOT being a concept album (Jon's written 5 consecutive concept
albums, the last two Sava discs, and all 3 TSO discs).

Wow! Thanks for the reply on the King Crimson mailing list! The Elephant Talk site IS amazing!

    Well guys, it's kind of strange that when I have this sudden urge to play all of my KC (that's for King Crimson; not the sunshine band...); then suddenly there's people here on the Jam discussing this matter...ESP maybe? So this is some infos I got so far about this Freaks;

    http://www.interx.net/~jgreen/index.html

The site is about the concept of their first four albums; from '69-'73 somethin'; Mind you; these are not JUST like Camel (or Moody Blues) if you consider the time contextuality and the hipness at that time... There is infact a lot of dark eeriness with these guys...read it in the site above! The keyboard + piano stuff; I think the one that is mistaken for (the God) Emerson is actually Keith Tippet. He consider himself as a Jazz pianist, but still he makes music with the Crimso' freaks...

Just spreading the words and illuminations... Reza!

I would say "The Wall" would be a better choice, not because it > is their best, but probably contains the most recognizable songs > ("Comfortably Numb", "Another Brick in the Wall" (mostly Part 2), "Hey You", > etc.). "PULSE" has these, but without Roger Waters, who sang, and wrote a > good portion of the music (and nearly all the lyrics).

Well, I think The Wall would be an excellent choice as well. It's definitely a classic (and better than Dark Side of the Moon, IMO). And you're correct: "Comfortably Numb" and "Hey You" are certainly two great (and recognizable) tunes! "Another Brick in the Wall" is a cool tune, and their most recognizable song.....but I've just heard it a little too much. Also, there's a few more very recognizable songs, "In the Flesh?"/"In the Flesh" (there's two different versions of the song on The Wall, if memory serves), and of course the ever-popular "Young Lust", and "Run Like Hell".

Mr. Korg said: > Call me stupid (alright, I hear it from here!), but I like Momentary Lapse > of Reason above all. Two words: "Terminal Frost." I dunno, but IMO, that > is one of the greatest rock instrumentals of all time.

I have to say that A Momentary Lapse of Reason is yet another great PF disc! And yes Korg, "Terminal Frost" is a great song! Also, "Learning to Fly" is arguably the most beautiful song I've EVER heard.

    > Of the classic PF, though, I've this tendency to harp about Animals...

I've just gotten this disc, and only given it two listens thus far. It's pretty damn cool though! (lots of acoustic stuff for those of you who haven't heard it).

Another one I recently listened to a few tracks from (at a friend's house) is Meddle. Pretty neat disc, and rather bluesy.

David Dixon > My favorite live versions of many classic PF tunes are on "Delicate Sound of > Thunder". I am a Waters-era PF fan, but I think David Gilmour is by far a > better musician (and vocalist - face it, Roger really couldn't sing very > well), and he adds a creative touch that Roger couldn't match. "The > Division Bell" rocks, too.... :)

I agree again. Delicate Sound..., and The Division Bell are great too. Come to think of it..... I've never heard a BAD Pink Floyd disc. Is there any?

I think this little thread really demonstrates the beauty of Pink Floyd though. As you can see, we all seem to have a different Pink Floyd album (or albums) that really strike us as special. It's like there's a PF album for everybody out there! :-)

Well, IMHO (and the HO of many a PF fan), "The Final Cut" blows (for PF's amazingly high standards - it is a DECENT album), and some may have different opinions about this one or other albums, but Pink Floyd still definitely kicks ass in all eras, from Syd to Roger to Dave.

Dominic Miller played on subsequent Sting albums: Soul Cages, 10 Sum'ner's Tales, and Mercury Falling. Dominic Miller, I believe, played in World Party before his days with Sting.

Ive been seeing alot about Annihilator on here as well as Testament. And I just wanted to say that on my first trip to LA...we went out looking for some action and ran smack into a club called Jezebels in Anaheim. A huge sige out front read "Tonight only Testament and Annihilator LIVE! So we go in and Annihilator is just taking the stage...i knew how to play "Stonewall" so I at least knew who they were. Anyway there was a major pit down front and the only way i can describe it is to say it was a professional pit. It had yellow rails around a bowl center with a ring of security dudes with yellow tees on who would sweep into the fray and snatch up the weak before they became trampled....hehe..then they would promptly THEROWWW their happy asses back into the shit!

Jeff was on stage thrashing like a demon with this weird-assed grin. He looked like a giant Dan Spitz <Anthrax>...this show forever cemented my love of his killer dist. then clean then dist. type of riffage.

Then Testament hit and all hell broke loose this tour was "Never neverland/The NEw Order BTW to let you know how old this was.

And before i start rambling here let me say it just dawned on me how when Alex left shit really changed...personally i think their new "death" stuff sucks ass.

Dokken have a new album out called Erase the Slate. Notice the instrumentation:

"Dokken: Jeff Pilson (vocals, acoustic guitar, piano, Mellotron, keyboards, bass); Mick Brown (vocals, drums, percussion); Don Dokken (vocals); Reb Beach (guitar)." Mellotron? That's new (for them). Of course I don't know how they can pull that off live -- one guy playing bass and keys. How does Geddy Lee handle that in a live setting?

I don't remember who originally asked for a Pink Floyd recommendation, but here's my take...

When talking about Floyd, you need to know that Floyd had 3 different phases:

    1) Early 60's Psychedelic including Syd Barrett.

    2) 70's, 80's Eventually totally Waters dominated.

    3) 80's, 90's Post-Waters.

There was not a clean break from phase 1 to 2. After Barret left for the loony bin, they slowly evolved into something new. The biggest change came with the release of Dark Side of the Moon. That might be considered the real start of phase 2. Most people consider Phase 2 to be the "classic" Pink Floyd.

Some people consider the current, phase 3 line-up to be the equivelent of David Gilmour solo. (Which is not a bad thing) But if you listen to his actual "solo" albums, they really don't have the atmosphere of Floyd, even though they're still good.

Personally, I would recommend starting with the classic, phase 2 discs, in this order:

    1. Dark Side of the Moon 2. Wish You Were Here 3. Animals 4. The Wall ...

Of course everyone tends to be biased towards the first album they get from a band, so the first Floyd album you get will probably be your favorite...

    my $.02, BH
