Thanks for the info, but none of those three places had anything about "Thanks to Gravity" that I could find. Do you have a more specific URL? I was able to find a few of their samples at www.amazon.com though. :-)

Well, the amazon.com samples were annoyingly short so I turned to yahoo and found that they have an hour-long real-audio stream on Broadcast.com. :-) I'm listening to it now and it's very cool. The only problem is that so far they haven't mentioned the names of the songs so I have no idea what I'm listening to. ;) The URL makes me think that it's simply the "Sonata Brutalle" album. Is the stuff off Slingshot as good as this?
The URL for the hour-long sample is: http://www.broadcast.com/jukebox/Albums/S/SonataBrutalle_1161.stm

Well, their Demonic album is certainly a "death-metal" style disc...... but I highly recommend their new one, entitled The Gathering. It still has rough vox (not as 100% rough as Demonic, though), but it's much more melodic. Oh, and it's HEAVY. Very, very HEAVY.

When they write in Dorian, Gilmour's voice lends itself perfectly to that sound. It's very unique.. though I think it's lost some of its edge from what I've heard of their newer stuff. However, Roger CAN sing... sorta... I wouldn't wanna hear Gilmour sing Shine on you Crazy Diamond or Hey You. Roger's voice fits the music, especially on SOYCD probly one of my all time favorite Floyd tunes.. (both parts )

A friend of mine labels final cut as a Roger Waters solo album and not Floyd... and to some point (From what I've heard anyway) it's true.

I KNEW someone was gonna comment on that ;). The letter hit my box a while ago and once I read it I saw my "error". What I mean is parts (1-4, & 5-9) or is it (1-5 & 6-9)? Or other, can't remember and don't have the cd handy. Anyway, both full tracks of SOYCD as they appear on the cd. I also need to clarify that when I say I don't want to hear Gilmour sing Hey You, I mean the end, where Roger "screams and wails".

>P.S. Check out their solo albums, as well... :)
well, here`s a different opinion... if i may, that is :-). At first, I didn`t like it... well, let`s get one thing straight, people often say that it is a Roger Waters solo album (hell, even on the sleeve it says "a requiem for the post war dream by roger waters, performed by pink floyd"). In a way that is true, but still you can hear some nice guitar work by Gilmour, IMO. The songs for The Final Cut were actually leftovers from The Wall sessions... You can`t hear Rick Wright here (he was kicked out of the band during The Wall sessions) but hey, Michael Kamen is here... and this time not only he contucted arranged the royal philharmonic orchestra, he played piano harmonium... and if I may add, he did a very nice job (especially on the title track, that song blows me away...). Anyhow, it took alot of time for me to start to like it, and now I think it`s a great album. Even though people usually don`t like it... I love it. In terms of prog *evil grin* the last track "Two Suns In The Sunset"... well, the same thing happened as with Mother on The Wall, Nick Mason couldn`t play it cause it was in some odd, not-so-usual timing... Regarding their solo albums... which Pink you want first? :-) Roger Waters... I only have Radio KAOS. Well, the idea, the story behind it IMO is brilliant. Lyrics... hell, it`s Roger Waters we`re talking about. Music... oh my... this album lacked a good guitarist. Andy Fairweather-Low did a lousy job.. some "fills" here and there, but very poor musicaly speaking. The only track I really like there is "The Tide Is Turning" (*hint* i`ve gotta feeling... the tide is turning now baaaaby :-)), a brilliant song altough it sounds a hell of a lot better on The Wall Live In Berlin. Out of the 3 Waters solo albums, people usually place this one on the 3rd place... I haven`t heard The Pros And Cons Of Hitch-Hiking but people say it`s a good album (Eric Clapton played guitar on that one) and finally Amused To Death... I heard people say that it`s Roger`s best work (Jeff Beck played guitar). In case anyone missed it, Roger will start touring the east cost in July after 10 years of not touring... David Gilmour... he has 2 solo albums, one self-titled and the other one named "About Face". I have "About Face" and all i can say is that is doesn`t sound anything like Pink Floyd... i don`t know, I don`t like it very much. Sounds kinda pop-ish... there is this great song on it called "Murder". Other than that... i haven`t found any beauty in it so far but also, I haven`t listened to it very much (my expectations were a bit higher so I just put it in the shelf until "the right time comes" for it...) Rick Wright... has 2 albums. One isued in 1977 called "Wet Dream" (don`t have it) and "Broken China" which was released in 1997 and i bought it like a month ago... all i can say is: get it! lots of instrumentals, brilliant keyboards by Rick (slow and moody like stuff on Shine On You Crazy Diamond but also, some a-bit-more dynamic songs). The material for this album was composed in the studio, Anthony Moore who worked with Pink Floyd on their last two albums wrote lyrics for it... it`s more like a project, done pretty quickly and came out brilliant IMO (kinda reminds me on the very begging of my post :-)...
off to bed...

Damn, I really like The Final Cut. hehehe. Ah, well. I've always thought that album had Waters' most eloquent lyrics (sans the Not Now John song for obvious reasons). It does sound like a Waters solo album, though. Really moody and pessimistic.
Anyway, I dunno how many of the Journey-philes here have been keeping track of them, but I was curious today and checked their site http://www.journeytheband.com/ ) and there's quite a bit of activity from Journey. They're currently on tour with Foreigner, Steve Perry is out of the band for good (due to medical problems) with Steve Augerri (Tall Stories, Tyketto) being the permanent tour >and< studio vocalist, (somewhere I'd heard SP was still gonna sing on the albums), they will be working on a CD that is supposed to be due out this fall or sometime soon after, and Neal Schon has a new CD coming out on Shrapnel next month (July 17th if I remember). Also, Steve Smith is out (dedicting himself to Vital Information) and Deen Castronovo has filled in the drumming position.
Anyway, I never knew that Journey recorded a new song with Augerri for the Armageddon soundtrack called "Remember Me." Sounds good. Steve A. is a great replacement for Steve P, imo, but then I really liked Tall Stories, too. :) Anyway, The J-Band is on tour so if you wanna check 'em out, hit the site for tour dates!

Hi jammers Thanks to Outlander who mentioned Jeff Waters let me add some things about him. I don't know what the guitarists in the list think about Jeff, but for me is a hell of a guitar player (I'd like to hear some feedback about Jeff). I remember back in 1991, it was the "Never Neverland" Tour and Waters was all alone in the guitars. Those who know the first two albums of Annihilator know very well that twin guitars are necessary for proper reproduction of the songs on stage (I don't know how else to put it). Well Jeff was alone and the show was hellish. He pulled out the show with no one in the audience to feel the lack of the second guitar. One of the best shows I have ever attended. What can I say the man knows how to play (and that's not a professional opinion, just mine). And as far as the resurrection of Metal I can't agree more: Annihilator came back with very good album, Metal Church reunion, Iron Maiden with Bruce and Adrian and so on and on.
Brothers its time to rise and take back what it belongs to us (eMpTyV I mean heheh). See ya Mike
