I've heard DT on channel one. I heard Peruvian Skies and Hollow Years back
to back during some immigrant or teen pregnacy story that they run 5 times a
year. I was running through the halls to tell my buds that they were on tv
and that I'm not making up anything about Dream Theater being a real band--(
a lot of my friends listen to top 40 or rap) Of course i haven't paid much
attention lately because of the fact that my teacher really doesn't care if
    we watch it or not.

    Hey there Jammers!

I was fortunate enough to be at the Spock's Beard/Tiles show here in Detroit on Thursday night. I've been busy, and didn't get around to writing a review....... BUT it appears that Mr. Ptacek (who was at the show a few days later in Chi-town) has practically taken the words RIGHT OUT OF MY MOUTH! :)

Here's a few Ptacek quotes on Spock's Beard; > I was not prepared for the Beard

    > I can not BELIEVE what a great, amazing, amusing, comical, serious > and astound show Spocks Beard put on

    > What an amazing stage presence... these guys were just the greatest.

    DITTO! RIGHT ON CHRIS!

Really folks, you absolutely must SEE the Beard to BELIEVE the Beard!

    To add a few personal comments;

    * Partha.... sorry I was late in meeting you! Circumstances were beyond my control! :(

    * Neal Morse is such an AMAZINGLY gifted musician. Truly wonderful.

    * Got to meet all 5 Beard members after the show, and they're all VERY COOL!

Oh, and another thing: Check out TILES, they kick much ass too! Everybody who likes Rush-style music (with a vocalist that sounds somewhat like a subdued LaBrie) should check these guys out! I recommend their 2nd disc, "Fence the Clear".

Yes, they have a selftitled debut cd which is straightahead catchy melodic heavy. Cool guitarriffs and great vocals. One of the best scandi aor/melodic rock albums ever.

Hi, Jordan here <<;-) I hope this message isn't too long but I just found= =20 Threshold's 1999 tour diary on their homepage and I thought maybe all you= =20 people quibbling about EQ settings (get a life - no, get a new hifi cuz i= f=20 you had a good one you wouldn't need EQ) should relax and read something=20 funny:

Threshold Clone Tour Diary March 1999

    Prologue

Almost two years after our last concert of any global significance at the= =20 old Noorderlicht in Holland, closely followed by our last concert of rath= er=20 less global significance at the obligatory HLC in England, the new year=20 found us loading our cars once more and heading off to our Berkshire=20 rehearsal room in preparation for our forthcoming journey across Europe=20 which would start, rather obligatorily, at the HLC.

The rehearsal room in Winkfield has become something of a second home to=20 Threshold over the years, albeit a rather damp, squalid and unhomely one.= =20 It's located in beautiful countryside in a small pocket of England where = it=20 always rains, on the edge of a small car park which is perpetually floode= d,=20 covered in horse manure, full of pot holes and floodlit by a small light = on=20 a useful timer circuit which turns off moments after dusk, making the who= le=20 area a rather dangerous place for intrepid musicians who attempt to cross= it=20 to fill the rehearsal room kettle at the tap on the other side. However,=20 over the next few sessions our second home sees us transformed from a=20 collection of rusty musicians into the hopefully tight music machine that= is=20 Threshold, hampered only by the fact that our singer is in Germany and ou= r=20 shoes are rather grubby.

    The usual suspects

Before hitting mainland Europe with the full force of our progressive pow= er=20 machine, we decided to warm up with a couple of shows in our homeland. On= =20 the whole it's fair to say that England doesn't know about progressive=20 metal, even though it pioneered the two music styles that created it back= in=20 the 1970's. Most of our fans in England are therefore those who remember = the=20 good old days, but fortunately there are still some of them left, and som= e=20 of them know about Threshold.

First up is the HLC in Rotherham, an echoey sports hall in the north of t= he=20 country where numerous progressive shows are arranged by the Classic Rock= =20 Society. To a southerner like myself from a health-obsessed part of Engla= nd,=20 finding the HLC caf=E9 full of overweight families in tracksuits eating p= ies=20 and chips rather than the salad and yoghurt normally associated with leis= ure=20 centres was quite a shock, although I later realised that they probably h= ave=20 a rather more balanced view of the word "leisure" than I am normally used= =20 to. Supported by the Welsh band Ezra and the obligatory HLC raffle, we=20 eventually took to the stage for the first time with our new singer Mac, = who=20 appeared to have fully embraced the word "leisure" at the local bar befor= e=20 fronting the most energetic show Threshold have ever performed, much to t= he=20 delight of the fans who didn't appear to mind that Mac hadn't quite got t= he=20 hang of the words yet.

The following night found us at London's Astoria supported by progressive= =20 stalwarts Landmarq, who once shared our original vocalist Damian before h= e=20 was finally released from both bands to allow him to develop his lack of=20 commitment in other areas of music. Tonight the audience was awash with=20 friends and family members who had been waiting for us to do a local gig = for=20 years, and we learned from the previous night's alcoholic mistakes by=20 ensuring that tonight we were all rather more lubricated and therefore=20 rather less aware of any possible problems with the set. After a small=20 incident which will probably result in neither Threshold nor any other=20 progressive band ever playing at this club again, we left London confiden= t=20 of a job well done and looked forward to our impending journey across the= =20 English Channel.

Although we weren't fully convinced that having two support bands for the= =20 tour was a good idea, we were rather pleased that this resulted in us hav= ing=20 a whole tour bus to ourselves. It wasn't that we wanted to be unfriendly = to=20 the other bands, but it's always good to have the choice, especially afte= r=20 some past tour experiences which it's probably best not to mention.

    Goodbye Mother England

So the day of our departure arrived, and our luxury three-living-room=20 nightliner met us in Surrey where we loaded our gear into our luxury=20 luggage-compartment before clamouring aboard to select our luxury beds,=20 which we were only slightly disappointed to discover to be no different f= rom=20 the beds in any other nightliner, namely narrow slabs of foam in=20 coffin-sized compartments with poor lighting, poor ventilation and no=20 headroom. Our entourage consisted of Mac on his first outing with us,=20 Johanne on his second, the rest of the band on our twelfth, and two new c= rew=20 members Dave and Rob who were quite unaware of the upcoming trials of tou= r=20 life that would involve emergency flights, broken teeth and the most=20 unpleasant breakfasts known to man.

    Straight back down to earth

With Clone having received the best reviews and highest pre-sales of all = our=20 albums, as well as being voted our best album by the fan club, we were=20 rather despondent when we discovered that we'd been allocated the smaller= of=20 the two stages at the MarX in Hamburg for our opening night. The main sta= ge=20 has a nice spacious arena-like feel to it, whereas playing on the second=20 stage is rather like trying to hold a large business meeting in a small=20 cupboard. Somehow we managed to get ourselves and our support bands, Pain= Of=20 Salvation and Eldritch, onto the stage and performed to an enthusiastic=20 crowd safe in the knowledge that tomorrow would be better.

Unfortunately, due to an alleged argument between a club owner and a reco= rd=20 company executive, tomorrow turned out to be considerably worse, and our = gig=20 in Minden was cancelled. All of the frustrated musicians and disappointed= =20 fans surely found considerable comfort in the knowledge that it was=20 cancelled for such a sensible reason. We spent the rest of the day in a=20 small lorry park on the outskirts of nowhere in particular, with no money= ,=20 no enthusiasm, and worst of all with no cable for our Playstation.

Once again we felt safe in the knowledge that tomorrow would be better, a= nd=20 this time it was, with Zeche Karl in Essen proving to be an excellent ven= ue=20 with an excellent crowd all wearing excellent T-shirts, including some fo= r=20 Mac's old band Sargant Fury. Although we still didn't feel quite as polis= hed=20 as the Threshold that performed with Dream Theater four years ago, we hea= ded=20 off to Stuttgart confident that at least we felt more like a band again...

I can't post anymore to ytsejam right now or I'd exceed the mail size lim= it.=20 To read the rest check out http://www.erotomania.org/threshold/8m-dev6.ht= m

    Cheers, Jordan x
