The simple solution (for Netscape users) is to check the "wrap incoming

As for Tuonela.. I listed to the verse in the title track where they say "Tuonela". They say it "Two-nuh-LAH" but the first syllable is long. It's almost as if someone snuck another syllable in there so it sounds a bit like "Two-uh-nuh-LAH". i gotta stop taking these linguistics courses.
Free servers? Do NOT got to crosswinds.net. As far as I know, they still do not have a decent FTP server. Last I heard, when I emailed support, the FTP server sucks rocks and connecting via FTP session is near impossible. You must upload through your browser, so people using Web TV or that have javascript disabled are screwed. They banned me for a month from uploading, because they thought I was connecting with multiple machines. What was really happening was that my session kept getting interrupted and I'd get booted, then have to reconnect. They had a big thing on their front page saying that they were sick of people complaining about the suckage of their FTP, and it was our fault for not clicking on their banners. They also threatened to ban people who complained too frequently about the troubles with uploading. Yeah, I have some beef with these folks.
You can always come to AcmeCity (;P just had to say that since I "work" there). Only thing is you cannot upload files larger than 1 MB. But that's better than the 250 KB at DenCity.

IM VERY DISSAPOINTED IN DT!!!!!!!! I WAS EXPECTING I&W PART 2 WHEN EVERYONE IS SAYING HOW MUCH GOOD THIS CD IS, BUT WHAT IS THIS?!!!!!!!!! PUFF DADDY HAS NO PLACE ON A DREAM THEATER CD!!!!!!!!!
Now seriously , I just got my retail copy and obviously this cd is marvelous. Anyways, ive been discussing with my friends, about how a lot of the first half of this cd sounds a lot like it was written with Derek on keys , now were curious on how much of SFAM is leftover from when they had written met2 with DS. The keyboard parts on track 2, 3, and the beginning of home specifically are VERY derek-style IOHO (in our) Now that got us thinking, and i wish i could get a straight answer from someone with knowhow preferably mike..is that id like to know if anything was used from the previous met2. Since making a concept album THIS good is not something that easy to achieve and to do in a write/record kind of way. Aside from that well, i could use without the full minute of r&b vocalizing on through her eyes (half a minute wouldve been better) and well some of JR's sounds. All in all im very pleased with Jordan's work, specially within the band enviroment itself ( i dont care much for his solos, but his work within the rest of the band is awesome) I was/am one of the few die hard derek fans, and was a bit aprehensive, because i had gotten used to the ballz and chunk that DS added to the keys, but Jordan's work is awesome, at least in the full band spectrum of playing...derek is still my pick for memorable leads....ALTHOUGH the double leads with JP that JR does are truly SICK. Now, little Mikey...all i can say is GODDAMN. I have a very good friend who is an awesome drummer, and usually can do a lot of what mike can do...like emulating him...but he is truly scared now...id love to know if there are any drum overdubs on this cd? :) I doubt it but who knows...Jaimz laBrie is singing his best IMO. His voice sounds gorgeous, passionate, emotional... Myung as always is very solid and well the man is sick too! JP is experimenting a bit with some sounds he previously didnt use, althought some leads seem right out of Explorer's club...but well..they are still Awesome, and i feel hes grown a lot, in the "feel" side of playing and in overall guitar quality, than in soloing technique. (IMO you can only have as much technique, but you can never have enough feel, emotion, sense of melody, and good phrasing, and JP has tons of the latter, even if there is always room to get beter) . Oh well ..like i said IM VERY DISSAPOINTED!! =)

Hmm. This is an interesting situation. We have an American nationalistic kind of vibe going on, and we have an anti American vibe going on, and we have an indifferent vibe going on, and we have a couple assholes who are posting reviews of the album without spoiler warnings.
Does anyone else find it a little disheartening that some people are sort of at odds with each other here, even though we're all pretty much into the same things? It's wild. Racism/ignorance in a new Dream Theater form. That's really fucking sad.
Anyways, I just wish that those of you from other nations who have complained about having to adhere to this "Veil of Secrecy" would realize that it was Mike Portnoy's idea, and it does sort of make sense. I don't think the band will ever try to do something like that again... it seems like it was just a big pain in the butt. And I, for one, will certainly put ***SPOILERS*** in any new album posts for a while, until most people have had a reasonable chance to get the album. I also think that there are a couple American fans who ought to consider what they say a little more, rather than say "It's an American band, so screw off" or something like that. I don't think it got that bad, but you know what I mean. No reason to divide the group up!
Wow. I'll shut up now.

i was sort of expecting this. DT obviously wasnt expected to do as well as they have (like getting on the top 10), so i doubt CDnow ordered enough of their CDs to support that kind of demand. even before that started happening i refused to preorder it from cdnow cuz i knew there was little chance of getting it on time - once they started climbing the charts, i knew all hope was lost :) moo.

I remember that a few days ago somebody posted some comments about Derek's departure from the band, and said he'd like to have seen an ex-Malmsteen keyboardist take over DT's keys (or something like that, I don't remember his exact words)... I know I probably should've talked about this earlier, being this the eve of the most antecipated day in a while for most jammers... But, assuming that the guy he was talking about was Jens Johansson, I've only 2 words to say about that: Fuck yeah!!!! I mean, nobody can argue Jordan's "dominance" of his Kurzweil, but Jens has been my favorite keyboard player since I've first heard him play with Malmsteen, and I always felt that he wasn't able to explore his full potential with Yngwie, in spite of all the great thinks he did... Now with Stratovarius he just continues to blow me away... I know Jens is on this list, and I remember reading somewhere he was one of the guys who auditioned to replace KevMo, if I'm not mistaken... Does anybody know (Jens?) if there is any tape of his audition available? I'd die to listen to that...
Well, having gotten that out of my mind, I must say that I think Jordan's gonna have us all wondering: "How the hell does he do that?" with his playing on SFaM... :-) Hopefully, I'll be able to get a hold of the album by the end of the week, so I guess my curiosity won't last much longer... :-)
Later, Adriano

Saga is great! "Defining..." was the first album of theirs that I picked up after 15 years of NOT hearing them. They had a few minor hits in the US back in the early '80s (On The Loose, Wind Him Up, The Flyer, Catwalk) then seemed to disappear. They just released a new album called Full Circle overseas, and all of the Americans on the Sagafans list are waiting for CDNOW to pick it up :) Here is my (maybe slightly flawed, anyone can correct me if I'm wrong) summary of Saga:
The early Saga albums (Saga, Images At Twilight, Silent Knight) were most definitely prog by any standard definition, but they started to drift more towards a commercial sound with their World's Apart album (which is a must-own for any Saga fan). They took it even further with the Heads Or Tales LP (my favorite! Catwalk, The Pitchman, Intermission, and The Flyer are just incredible songs). Two of the members then left the band, and they stayed within this commercial realm for the next few albums (as evidenced by "Defining...."), using studio drummers and another keyboardist. The two members that left then returned in 1994 for the excellent The Security Of Illusion album. With this album, they started a return to a more prog- oriented sound. The concept album Generation 13 followed, and then Pleasure and Pain. I have heard mixed reactions to P&P, but I've only heard a couple of (live) songs from it, so I cannot give my opinion. As for Full Circle, all of the fans on the list say that it's a return to their old sound. Sure would like to hear it for myself, but that's not an easy task at the moment.
Funny thing is, when I really got into Saga, I wasn't a DT fan by any means, and I thought it would be great to see Saga live. They haven't toured the US since 1984, and my thoughts were that DT would be a great band for them to pair up with. And this thought led me to pick up I&W, which leads me to here!
Well, that's that. Oh, and I GOT MY CDNOW CONFIRMATION!!!!! Hope to get the album tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So now after a month or so of listening, I can FINALLY Say...This Album RULES!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats Mike, John, John, Jordan, and James on a perfect masterpiece!
Also for the last month I've been playing this CD in my store (FSU Students go to the Cd Warehouse on West Pensacola street...that's me) and the response has been HUGE!!! We've ended up ordering more DT CD's for tomorrows release than we are STP, Bush, or Alice in Chains...not to mention that the owner (a good friend of mine) has given me permission to order a crap-load of P.O.P. for the store (Posters, Flats, Stickers...etc) So we'll see how all that stuff goes...I'm in VERY tight with my distributer, and she said she'd totally hook me up with cool DT stuff...who knows, maybe I'll hook some of you guys up.
As for this whoole radio bombardment thingy...just play the CD for people you know, if you're in a position to legally broadcast the album (radio, music store, etc) play it, and discuss it with people...the music speaks for itself, and all these people need is the proper direction for aquiring the CD. C-ya!

Oh, I see. And I suppose that the reason you like M2 is because you're so open-minded? ;)

The fact of the matter is, everyone on the 'jam has access to the internet, and as such they can order it by/on the 26th. True, Europe got it early, but the rest of us ask that they refrain from ruining the disc for us until the 26th b/c we have NO WAY to get it prior to that date. After the official date, EVERYONE on the 'jam can get it, so we are free to discuss it. Unless, of course, it goes on backorder or something...
I apologize if I've just restated things said a hundred times before, but I was away for the weekend and couldn't read the 'jam. As such, I just went thru 367 new messages. Worst possible time to be away from the 'jam, IMO.

Yo, Singaporean jammers! Any sign of the new DT in your stores yet? A few of my relatives and friends will be there around November 10th or so, and I'm kinda hoping...
As to all of you, it's already October 26th here, and in Oz, NZ, Ph, Sg and Ma. And every small country around us. May we start discussing the CD now or must we wait till it's 26th in the West Coast? That would, what, about 12 more hours? What about Alaska? And Hawaii?
Ooohh, the anticipation... -- pluki 8498006

yer i think your right in some ways. Stevie definately had an awsome technique, tone and touch that Jimi couldnt match. but i think Stevie really lacked in the creativity department when compared to Jimi. Remember when Jimi came out there was nothing like it out there, and in fact there hasn't been anything like it since. Also, I remember a quote from Stevie himself which was something like- "I'm nowhere near as good as Jimi Hendrix. I can't play every rhythm known to man, behind my back with my teeth, while singing and smoking pot." You have to give Jimi credit for the fact that most of the time he was playing he was half asleep on another planet.
