What's a 19th note? Is that anything like a 12th note? I hope we hear
some /12 and /19 sigs on the new DT album; then we will know if they've
*truly* grown as musicians.
That's what this "veil" must be all about. They don't want us to know that
80% of the album is in 19/12. :)
*sigh* :)

Any ribbon controller can do that, given the right sound programming. All
it does is send out information along the lines of "the finger is here!
the finger is now here!" -- i.e. it transmits some controller data value
between 0 and 127 (the MIDI limits) The interesting stuff happens with
respect to how you program your patch to respond to that controller.
I think one thing that the Kurz does with the big ribbon is that you can
split it into zones for multiple effects. That's unique as far as I know,
but pretty much all other ribbons are freely assignable.
On a more technical note: There's really two parts. Part one is assigning
the ribbon to a controller number. MIDI defines 127 possible controllers,
some of which are pre-assigned to things like volume, reverb level, bank
select, modulation, pan, etc. There is (unfortunately) no spec for "Ribbon
controller" but there are several "general purpose controllers" that the
ribbon can be assigned to. Part two is making your sound respond to that
controller (say, by having it summoning the evil black hole overlord of the
galaxy)
I could go on and on, and probably already have.

( Uh-oh.. Hope I didn't open a new an of worms about Sony car stereos with

And I do enjoy MP3's a great deal. Just bought a CD-RW drive last month...

Hey all
In anticipation for SFAM, I just listened to FII again and was wondering where
the title of the album came from. It's nowhere in the lyrics (like 'Awake' in
'The Silent Man') and nothing else in the inlay says anything about Falling into
Infinity. It is also not their 8th album (because the symbol for infinity looks
like an 8 turned 90)B°).
Can anybody help me out here? The FAQ says nothing about it.

Have any of you got a glimpse of the new Tom Jones (and Cardigans)
video? Well if you haven't, it's called Burning Down the House, the
record is called RELOAD and there's a very familiar lyric that keeps
coming up,<FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE>(?)!!!
Coincidence?
Considering the cardigans` past ,who have so shamelessly contributed
their own unholy version of Paranoid to the
music industry ...: )))
Anyhow, the original track was written by the Talking Heads (have no
idea exactly when so smn please shed some light here) so either this
band is another Metallica influence brought to light (highly unlikely)
or this irreverence
goes more years back than I`d thought so.It is up to Cowgod now to
unleash his wrath upon them and burn their houses down (that was the
idea,wasn`t it?).

If anyone has the european Ed Hunter tour setlist, please send it to me
and I`d be very gratefull.

HI ALL:
I've only just joined the Ytsejam mailing list and been a Dream Theater
fan for about a year now when a friend suggested that if I enjoy the
heavier side of Genesis (my other fave band) then I'm gonna love these
guys. After purchasing every album I could find I suppose he was right.
Anyway I recently picked up a copy of Mulmuzzler and think its
excellent, with some excellent drum work on it. The guitar work is
pretty static but suits the albums slightly more rhythmic style well and
James as ever is in great voice.
Anyway that's my Earth shattering entry into the world of Ytsejam, so
heres to the new album may it beat all others or have Metropolis 2 on
it, either one would be great.

Hey..
I don't know if it has been discussed here before, but I'll ask anyway.
The booklet in the A change of seasons CD says: "ACOS" was originally
written back in 1989 along with "Metropolis - Pt.1", and was intended to
be included on "Images and Words".
Does this mean that there is some kind of connection between ACOS and
Metropolis?
Or is it just that they were written around the same time? But they must
have written a lot of songs in that period so why is Metropolis
mentioned? is ACOS some kind of Metropolis 1.5?

Uhhh, the Kurzweil K2000VP I own doesn't have a ribbon under the pitch
and mod wheels, like Chris said in his post. Maybe it was on the earlier
models, like the K1000 or something. The 2500 has one, a long one, above
the keys, below the display.
BTW, the Triton's LH controllers are REALLY nice, the X/Y Joystick and
the ribbon are perfectly placed for doing cool stuff. I've been able to
do really cool controller stuff that I'd not been able to do before since
I got my Triton. Highly recommended. As is, of course, the Kurz.

Does anyone else think that the last jam, 5091, was some of the
collectively funniest shit you've ever read? After a month of being crazy
about getting kicked off the jam for the tiniest spoiler, some dumb
probably-not-even-subscribed moron posts an entire album spoiler, sons by
song, to the WRONG ADDRESS (it was obviously intended for
alt.music.dream-theater). Then, that dude wants to get replayed, and
finally DS's (fake?) home phone number gets handed out to some gay
felcher. Good stuff, eh? :) Unfortunately, this was not the place for
the spoiler, nor is there really any place for the spoiler, but it still
struck me as funny.

I got two songs from the new DT album from a freind off the internet, but he
won't tell me where he got them. I won't tell you anything about the songs,
but the new album is going to fucking rock. I couldn't beleive my ears.
And there is no way in hell that hearing it before the release date will
spoil the effect of the CD. All these songs have done, is make me want the
CD even more. I have been listening to the same clip over and over and over
again. I can't get tired of it and I can't wait for the CD. I can't fucking
wait!!! If anyone posts a negative review of this CD then they need thier
heads checked. This is the best album from Dream Theater, EVER!!!

Interesting note.
I believe it's the newest issue of Mix, in which they state that Digital is
a bad format for archiving, and they point out two very interesting things.
1). if you archive to DAT, and some minor imperfection occurs ANYWHERE along
the tape surface, BLAMMO! there goes your recording.
2). Many older cd manufacturers (not sure if this is for silvers, or CDRs
or both) have a problem, in that the ink used on the top of the disc will
eventually eat through to the thin metal disc inside the plastic... re:
BLAMMO!
They say that most digital media begins to break down after about 10 years,
whereas Analog, though it too begins to break down, will last more along the
lines of 30 years (maybe more, maybe less pending starage condition).
What do they recommend as the best recorder to backup with, in analog?
Well, isn't that convenient... they recommend the Revox A77. Anyone on this
list have an A77? No, of course not... you SUCK, Al. :)
On a side note, it looks like Steve Vai is playing Chicago on my Birthday!

Does anyone know where I could get my hands on the 'Live Tension

I have a few (perhaps not-so) rare items you folks might want in return:
1) I & W T-shirt, worn once (not a tour shirt)
2) A CD-R I made of FII dropped songs and other rarities
3) Lost In the Sky (Milan 93, awesome boot)
4) Dance of Eternity (incl. one of the first ever playings of CoS in 93)
5) Spinning Years 2 (Scarred Records 7-bootleg MP3 archive)
If interested in selling/trading/locating etc., contact me directly,
please. I'm really only interested in the LTE boot, thanks.

Okay.. this is totally off topic, but I figured that I would post this
question to all of you with hopes of getting a response. I am a huge Howard
Stern fan. I used to listen to him all the time when I lived just an hour

With that out of the way... does anyone know where I can get this show
ONLINE. I would love to log in and get the show on my computer. I have
searched high and low on the net to find a station or a "secret" place that
carries the show. I feel so "out of place" without hearing about lesbians

Does anyone have any cds by him? Any suggestions?
I was thinking of "E" because Jens Johansson is on it,
or Octave of the Holy Innocents because Buckethead
is on it.
Anyone?
