Yes, folks. That's the title of the new album.
I guess the Jam will have a hard time finding a good acronym for this
one *grin*...

You mean you missed the post from the insider at eastwest that confirms the album *is* a concept album, and a triple CD concept album at that? And that KM makes a guest appearance on 2 tracks?
On the bright side, having missed that post means you won't have spoiled the surprise. Oh, oops. :)
I think a gentle reminder is appropriate, that if anyone ever thinks they've missed a digest, they're all available at ftp://ftp.dreamt.org/pub/ytsejam/

I had to turn the computer back on in order to express my feelings about the new Megadeth CD, Risk. I never thought that it would be a risk to buy a Megadeth CD, but it definitely was one after having heard it (yeah, just once, but once is enough to notice whatever happened to them). This CD is just not Megadeth, or at least not the Megadeth some of us love. I can't believe that Crush 'Em, which I previously wrote about saying that I didn't like, is one of the best songs on the CD. The music on this CD sounds like commercial crap, with almost no unexpected twists and turns and almost no interesting parts. Did somebody cut fingers off of Marty Friedman's hands? He surely sounded like he was handicapped during the recording of this disc. On the little interview included as a bonus (CD-ROM), Mustaine says that most of the bands that used to play heavy music went the way of death metal and cookie monster vocals, but that they went in the other direction, the way of the melody. But Dave, you can BOTH kick ass and be melodic, which you certainly have done in other albums, except for this one. This one might be melodic, but it's melodic crap. There isn't even one fast and thrashy song in the album. Hey, The Disintegrators was pretty melodic... Where's the thrash, Megadeth? I mean, I didn't expect every song to be fast and heavy (I really liked Cryptic Writings), but at least one song would have quenched the thirst to listen to some good new Megadeth. I feel so disappointed. I just hope it gets a bit better after a few listens, but it will still be lacking that trademark awesome Megadeth sound (boy I miss the Menza drum sound). Well, this is obviously my pissed off opinion, so comment whatever you want. Thank you for listening. I don't feel any better.

I too now find myself with this on my MUST BUY list. 'Presents of Mind' just blows me away. These guys are BIG TIME - I think all the Rush comparisons do them a bit of a disservice. Yes, their instrumentation/tone is VERY similar, but buy the same token, they seem to 'groove' more than those white boys from the Great White North (as opposed to white boys from the balmy tropics of Detroit, right?) And the madolin, banjo, and violin is to die for, much to my surprise.
Anyway, Tiles is supposedly moving their offical web site soon, but you can order it (or they claim you can order it) from the merchandise links at http://www.tiles-music.com

I have to agree with those of you who are commending Vai on his vocals. When I considered buying Fire Garden, I honestly figured that the vocals might suck, but he really surprised me, not bad at all! Not the most memorable voice in the world, but I don't think using his own voice hurt the CD at all. Steve is definitely one talented dude!

Yeah really, I can't wait to hear his new album! Does anyone heard anything! I heard a rumour there are singing songs on JAPANESE?!?!?! :) Any other comment? I'm willing to get ANY review if possible...
And yeah, I was also VERY dissapointed to find out (by some jammer) that Vai actually doesn't play the best piano solo I ever heard in my live (Fire Garden Suite). Punk, why he didn't write it in the liner notes???? -- CyberDuke ________________________________________________

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Man, that would just be hilarious. I could just imagine it now:
NP: Dream Theater - ": Track 3, Metropolis II
(But I'm not saying Met II will or will not be on the album, even though God told me the truth about it. I won't spoil the surprise.)

I just came back from a very short performance by Steve Vai at a sam goody music about an hour from my house on Long Island, and let me just inform anyone who is near any of the other stores he's gonna be playing at: GO SEE HIM!!!!! He plays 3 songs with a DAT, the 1st 2 are Jibboom and The Ultra Zone from his new one, then he pulls out Evo and says "I got one more song on DAT to play with, I think you'll get a kick out of it." For the Love of God. Just watching him perform is such an incredible insparation for any guitarist, you can tell from his actions on stage that he is playing every note straight from his heart. I cant wait to see him on this tour.
oh yeah, the Ultra Zone album is pretty cool too :-)

Hello Friends!
Coming up tonight (that's Wednesday, September 8!) at 9pm eastern time, James La Brie, vocalist for Dream Theater and his recent solo project, Mullmuzzler, will be joining The Artist Shop and Talk City for an IRC Chat. Full details on joining the chat are at <http://www.artist-shop.com/irc>.
Inspired by his father, James started singing and playing drums at age 5. By the age of ten, he was performing in a barber shop quartet with his father, uncle and brother. Yet James' real love was rock music which he pursued by his early teens. At age 21, he began vocal training with the renowned vocal coach Rosemary Patricia Burns. After working with several Canadian bands, James became the vocalist for Winter Rose, which almost signed with Atlantic Records. Then Pierre Paradis, who managed the band Voi Vod, approached James regarding a solo project with Aquarius Records. He also told James about a New York based band called Dream Theater who were looking for a vocalist. The rest, as they say, is history.
James will join us to discuss his latest project, Mullmuzzler, slated to be released on Magna Carta <http://www.artist-shop.com/magna> in late August. With the help of the venerable Terry Brown, producer of Rush's output during the '70's, James built, shaped, then fine-tuned nine distinct, heartfelt and often bombastic tracks, all of them co-writes with an army of the field's hottest creators including members of Shadow Gallery, Matt Guillory of Dali's Dilemma, and Trent Gardner from Magellan and Exploreres Club. So the writers planted the seed and the players made it grow.
Towards that end, Jame tapped co-writer and keyboardist Matt Guillory, scary Zappa-orbiting guitarist Mike Keneally and his gravity-defying bassist from Beer for Dolphins, Bryan Beller, plus Mike Mangini (best known for his work with Extreme and Steve Vai) for a little musical witchery down in LA. The result is a banquet of purifying rock, some of it slamming in a Zeppelin frame of mind, some of it reminiscent of Queen and possibly Styx, some of it simply the most elegant classic rock you will ever hear. And, hopefully, James will also share with us the progress being made on the forthcoming Dream Theater album!
Spread the word!
Gary

Man!! I've gotta say that Damon's and Mike's Internet Radio show kicked some serious ass! Last night was the first time I've hooked up to it (from work) and I was hooked from the first few minutes of hearing them talk. Played some great music, and even took a collect call from Jar Jar Binks......that was hysterical. I sent them 4 pieces of Email which they read 3 of on the broadcast and it was cool hearing them read and talk about them. Too bad you guys don't have any Symphony X CD's... You've gotta check them out.
Anyway, everyone should check out their broadcast Tuesday nights!!!! Highly recommended.

This hust in from Atlantic Records Digital Spew:
*QUEENSRYCHE MAKE ATLANTIC DEBUT WITH Q2K*
Renowned rock quintet Queensr=FFche is set to make their Atlantic Records debut with the September 14th release of their eagerly awaited new album, Q2K. Meanwhile, the albums first single, "Breakdown," is already breaking out at rock radio outlets across the country, earning #2 most-added status in its first week on the air.
Composed, recorded, and produced by Queensr=FFche, Q2K serves as the introduction of new guitarist Kelly Gray, who joins original members Geoff Tate, Scott Rockenfield, Eddie Jackson, and Michael Wilton. Emboldened by new a energy and chemistry, the group steps forward with such tracks as the riff-ready "Falling Down," the stirring "Sacred Ground," and the hard-rocking "Burning Man." The group is slated to launch their extensive "Q2K" tour of North America in late-October.
Since their formation in 1983, Queensr=FFche has released an EP, six full-length studio albums, one studio home video, two live home videos, a live album and video boxed set, a limited-edition boxed set, an interactive CD-ROM, and numerous singles. Along the way, they've scored some six million in U.S. sales and earned numerous RIAA sales awards - gold (four), platinum (one), and multi-platinum (the triple-platinum EMPIRE). Building on that legacy with their first release since 1997's HEAR IN THE NOW FRONTIER, Q2K finds the Washington-based band revving up to a new level of passionate performance while displaying the powerful rock sound that first earned them widespread acclaim. =20

Hi there!
Nice to be back... wonder how long it'll take before everything's back to normal here... but anyways, here's some shameless promotion:
---
PROG-O-RAMA is Sweden's only progressive rock, metal, fusion, whatever radio show, broadcast on Stockholm Student Radio 95,3 MHz FM. We've got new hours, the first Sunday night each month, at 01.00 AM. The next broadcast is the 3rd of October.
Now, the interesting thing is that we are going to arrange a DREAM THEATER listening party in October, somewhere in Stockholm. If you live in the Stockholm area of Sweden, visit http://progorama.web.com regularly to find out more details of this. It'll be like a YtseCon.SE!
Also, now on the PROG-O-RAMA web pages we've featured four tracks from four excellent Scandinavian prog/psychedelic bands, in MP3-format. If you're interested in cool music (no squealy prog-metal though) check it out. This months featured bands are Qoph, Euro Boys (a k a K)Båre & The Cavemen), The Soundtrack Of Our Lives & Morte Macabre, which is a horror movie covers project by Landberk and Anekdoten.
So, go to http://progorama.web.com and get all the good stuff!
---
Also, I wonder if all you people all jazzed up by In Flames have heard Arch Enemy. I mean, I like In Flames a bit, but Arch Enemy IMO much more deserves praise. They're comprised of Mike Amott (ex-Carcass) + brother and some other cool guys, have released three albums. They shred! Brutal, melodic death metal with very nice soloing. They've even ripped the arpeggios in The Killing Hand off, on Beast Of Man from their second album, but it is done with such class that it must be an hommage and not a rip-off. Check them out: ARCH ENEMY!!!

Alright, after a few more listens, the new Megadeth album is sounding better (as expected), but it still does not compare to previous efforts, not even Youthanasia, which I think is a bit sub-par for Megadeth standards. At least it's becoming more listenable, although I'm still wondering what ever happened to Marty on this cd...

After hearing a good chunk of the new Queensryche at Powermad, I can safely say that this new CD makes HITNF sound like Operation:Mindcrime 2. This has to be one of the most uninspired CDs I've heard in quite some time. Well, this one and the new Megadeth, I suppose.
Of course, this is just my opinion, so who knows if I know what I'm talking about or anything...

Sorry, but that's not it... The actual title is "Mind of its own"!=20 The cover art (!) can be found at http://members.xoom.com/jonas44/newdt.jpg It seems like they have returned to using the old logo too! I can't wait to hear the music.

haha, that cover screams "photoshop" so loud its funny. managed to get two of the three most overused photoshop filters in there too (lens flare and drop shadow). the only thing that coulda made it better was if the DT logo had an inner bevel :) moo.
